Played here 6/25 late afternoon. Paid $47.00 with a Golfnow special. Overall, the course is quite playable. Tee boxes are very green and lush. Fairways are thin and not aesthetically pleasing to the eye. They're mostly light green and brown and dried out. However, for the most part, they are very playable. The bunkers I saw had good sand quality. The real disappointment was with the greens. This used to be the best part of this course. Now, the greens are mediocre. They are medium speed at most. They were bumpy on many of the greens. On some of the greens you couldn't see any signs of aeration from about 4 weeks ago. On other greens there were still hole punches visible. I had a putt in one of those areas that hopped about 1 inch in the air right after I struck the ball. This course is worth playing if you can get a discount like the one I got. To pay anywhere near rack rate is certainly not worth it.

I played 4/15/13, Monday. Took buddy for birthday special. He played for free, I paid $80 rack rate for a 9 AM Monday tee time. Had breakfast in private club-like dining room. Waiter service, linen table covers. $9 full breakfast. Lots of practice area for range, greens, and pitching.
The course is along the Angeles creek near the Hansen Dam reservoir. The course emphasizes the approach shots and putting on fast greens. More deer and rabbits than birdies :). We felt like we were playing at a private club. My budget allows only birthday specials here. Not crowded. We enjoyed white tee play..

Very good experience. Out as a solo around 7am on Apr 19, 2013. Finished 18 in around 2.5 hours. Skipped a couple twosomes and saw other singles Friendly staff and course workers.

Challenging course but found the fairways wide enough and nothing that I shook my head at as far as ridiculous shots required. Some bunkers were soft while others were packed hard - so as long as you recognize what you're hitting out of, your shots should be fine.

This is a desert course so the fairways and greens are hard but green so don't show up expecting lush lawn and grass everywhere. Example - I was a few feet short of the green on a few shots and the ball would take a pretty big hop (depending on the undulation) and end up most anywhere - but hey, price to pay for not making the shot. Very good experience. Will return.

The course is in fair shape. Overall, it needs WATER!!! The fairways are dormant, which is fine, but they are hard as rocks. Some areas it felt like I was hitting off of hardpan. The tee boxes are all level and nice...no problems there. The greens are the firmest I've played in SoCal. Only the best shots will hold. They roll fantastic..very fast and true. Probably 10-11 on the stimp, which is perfect for me. The only real issue with the greens is the 18th green. It is a hot mess. It must be a problem from all the coot poo...looks like fungus or something. The entire green is top-coated with sand, and the area closest to the water is unputtable. They're working on it, but it's bad.

Angeles National is a very difficult course. It's a great layout, and I love the challenge it poses..makes you really focus on hitting great shots. It can be scored on, but you better bring your A-game. I think I'll wait until the grass comes back in before I'll play here again.

Played here yesterday with a buddy, and to be kind, the course was in horrendous shape. Fairways were quite barren and the several of the greens had fungus growing on them. I have played here quite a few times and this is easily the worst shape I have seen the course in. To make matters worse, they put us behind a shotgun tournament where people were getting drunk at 9am! So we called the pro shop to give the groups in front a little push and what do they do. They end up moving us to a different hole so we end up jumping around to random holes, terrible. If they consider themselves a premier LA course, they need to anticipate these types of issues and move golfers around as appropriate. Terrible experience and will not be going back again.

POP was only 4.15 with the group behind us very trigger happy...what's the rush guys! We paid good money for the round, let's enjoy the round! Greens were firm and fast running @ 11.5/12. Fairways was dried up and dormant...hey guys..use some of our overpriced green fees towards overseeding..make Nicklaus proud! Rough was patchy...and the wood chips sprinkled around the course is an added distraction. Marshalls watched us like a hawk all round...
Layout is very penal and the course is just really tough and not fun. Customer service was average. The girls @ the turn need a hearing lesson and learn some customer service. Will not return unless someone else pays for it!

Pros- Greens were rolling really nice. Tough to look in some places but all really rolled well... Very fast greens, probably a 11+ on stimp. Layout is interesting, fun, challenging. Bunkers are full of sand. Service was ok.
Cons- Everything else. Fairways are thin, dormant, rolling a ton. I hit into a group in front of us from 360 yds away. Rough is non-existant.
Overall- 2 times a year played, that about is all I will go.

Played on Sunday 1/20 at 1:00 pm. Was able to head right to the first tee and tee off as a twosome.

Tee boxes were in great condition, all level and lush.

Fairways were dormant and yellow and provided plenty of roll. A little thin at times, but no real bare spots.

Rough was green and lush, not very thick, which allowed balls to roll right through them and into bunkers and waste areas. Frustrating to hit a drive and have it roll out into what should have been the first cut, but then keep rolling into a bunker.

Speaking of bunkers, I was in at least 8 and they were all well filled with soft fluffy sand.

Greens were very disappointing. They rolled fast but were just in really rough shape with areas of clumpy grass throughout. It was very hard to get a true roll with the different kinds and thicknesses of grass. Worse than muni greens.

Pace of play was good. We hooked up with another twosome and were able to easily get in 18 before dark. GPS was very helpful, though I got the feeling it was a little off. Multiple times our foursome wound up short on well struck shots. We didn't have a laser to verify though, so it could have just been us. Cart girl was around on the front nine, but not on the back. It would have been nice if there was a water cooler or fountain somewhere as the carts come with ice chests, but there is nowhere to refill a bottle.

It was my brother-in-law's birthday so he took advantage of their birthday special. NOTE: It is no longer a free round with a full paying guest. The birthday individual now must pay a cart fee of $15 with a full paying guest. $80 for twilight made it a good deal. I can't really imagine paying their rack rate of $188 weekend prime time ever, but especially not until their greens are in significantly better shape and their fairways grow in a little...there are just too many better value courses in better condition in Ventura County, the IE and OC. I'll definitely play again, but only for the right price when the conditions improve.

Played Angeles National last week. Greens rolled smooth and fast yet very firm. Fairways and rough were brown, dormant and thin. My tee shots were off and paid the price. Not a forgiving course to say the least. Miss a fairway and your ball is in the surrounding desert like brush terrain...don't bother trying to find it. Interesting yet flat layout. I paid $70 and thought that was too much given the poor conditions of the fairways and rough. Probably worth $70 in the Spring. Pace of Play was good at 4hrs.
