You know Brookside is a very nice track....too bad people are too d%mn lazy to fix their ball marks on the greens. Played today...as I was walking up...course looked in good condition until I got to hole 1 on course 1....it looked like a piece of swiss cheese with all the pitch marks/divots...its a d%mn shame! Alot of the holes had tons of divots...I tried fixing them put it would take me 5 min to get to them all. C'mon people...bend your fat ass over and fix your pitch marks/divots. Other than that course was in good shape and I had a good time (even had a good laugh watching a guy get pissed on 15 and throw his club about 30 yds)

This course was in great condition and was a lot of fun. All aspects were in good condition including sandtraps. Very much worth the green fees.

Played a free round using golf626.com, part of the golf800.com network...Conditions are deteriorating fast, I'd give it a 6 out of 10 overall...Many bare spots on the tee boxes and in some fairways and greens, inconsistent sand quality in the bunkers, and some greens have way too many ballmarks and bare spots...
The only good thing about playing in the afternoon is the pace of play...Teed off around 1:45pm and finished by 5:15pm...Can't beat that...Better get out there before UCLA football season starts next month...

Fun course to play around the Rose bowl. A few problems with some fairways, especially after a USC game because they use it for parking. Tee boxes were level and in decent shape.

All i can say about this course is "heads up!" This course is a shooting gallery with tons of stray balls flying everywhere. The fairways are really really narrow.

I know that twilight trick too....it really does work!! There's a downside to it however.

Everytime I do it, I still take the time to repair my ball marks on the greens, regardless of how much sunlight is left. Heck, I'll even fill-in my divots on the fairways....Most of you twilighters do use a cart, and yes, there should be divot fill in those little white bottles attached to the back of the cart....use it.

Alot of the players who take advantage by making their own path in the late afternoons at brookside never fix divots or ball marks because they are in such a hurry to fit in as many holes as they can for least amount of money. The result is ballmarks that don't get repaired until the next day, or worse, several days later. So, If your gonna try to cheat and squeeze in 19 or 25 holes after twilight, just remember all the other golfers who will find your ballmarks and unfilled divots in the morning. So don't be selfish-- fix 'em you dummies!!!

However, this method of jumping around the course wouldn't work at all, if brookside managment paid some decent marshalls to prevent players from doing it.


Just goes to show how bad Brookside has it....

Grew up in Pasadena and play this course all the time. #1 is a challenging course although I don't understand why people love the design so much. Most of the bunkers are poorly placed and ugly with those high lips. It's also bothersome when lakes are placed in higher terrain so that sometimes the water level is well above you, it just seems very unnatural. Also, on 7 and 8 the cart path just shouldn't be on that side, especially on the 7th where the path is only about 10 feet away from the green.


Still, this course has alot of potential and a respectible history, having hosted the LA Open (supposedly Pros found it quite difficult). The real problem with the course is course #2 in my opinion. #1 is too hard for alot of bad golfers who go out there and slow everything down, but because course #2 is so meek in comparison (and doesn't come back near the clubhouse at the turn), #1 is almost always too busy while #2 is wide open. That said, most people don't realize that the first half of the back nine of #2 actually has the most interesting terrain of anywhere on the course, with holes 10 through 13 being that best golf on the entire complex in my opinion. It is also in the best condition, since most of the players on #2 are so bad that they rarely make it that far.


My advice, start out on #2 but play #9 as #3 then continue over to the back 9. at #14 switch over to #5 of course 1 (which is adjacent) and play #6 & 7 as well. From there, move over to the back 9 of #1 starting on #12. Play through the 18th hole, then, to complete the round at twilight play #10. Play 18 or 9 just to come back and you've played 19 holes. If you start a round like this at around 3 to 3.5 hours before dark on a weekday you'll finish everytime, and play a course that is in much better condition.


Since I'm in college now I rarely play there, which is the only reason I'm giving this secret away.

Played in the afternoon on Jul 15. Are the greens bumpy? Yeah, a little bit. Are the fairways a little bare? Yeah, in spots. Was it slow? Sure, a 5 hour twilight round. But for $32 not a bad deal at all. It’s still a great layout. We played it from the tips, and at a little over 7000 yards, it’s all the course you could want. Or at least, all the course I could want. Yes, I fixed a lot of ball marks that should have been fixed by other players. No use moaning about it, just bend down and fix them. Better to fix them than let them sit there. Are the sand traps in great shape? No, but then again, you're not supposed to hit it there. That's why they call them hazards... You think Old Tom Morris, or Bobby Jones played on perfectly manicured courses. No, they just played the course as it was. Sometimes I think today's golfers are a little spoiled by the standards we have today. Remember, it's just a game. Go out and enjoy it!
