Back out again today and we did it in 3.5 hours this time. Course seemed cleaner today, especially the fairways/tee boxes. Greens looked and putted much better than on Wed and noticed the superintendent out on the course and personally watering and seeding (nice to see that). Does not appear any cooler weather is coming, so hope the course can withstand the coming warm temps over the next several days.

I played this course for the 1st time on Sunday August 31, 2014 in the LA County Championship. For City Course on the Water and the price their charge to play there, it is a great deal even thou I didn't pay that price because it was included in my tournament fees.
I love the layout and this course can play tough with the ocean winds and the green can be little tricking. If they made the green faster than it would make it tougher and etc. Overall I would totally come back here and play here again.

Played this morning and pace of play was great as usual @ 4 hours. Tee boxes were level and clean but players should learn to use the sand provided at each tee, to cover their divots. Bunkers were in good shape and playable, that I can attest to. Fairways were good in some areas, thin in others, primarily due to watering constraints and patterns. Greens had been recently cross cut but have drought damage on some of them, due to lack of water (really did not effect putting IMO). Some changes have been made both in watering and staff, according to sources at the course, to prevent this from happening again.

Played this morning in 3:30. Course is in good condition but very wet. Seems that the superintendent is watering heavily at night. Fairways and greens were very soft for the first 3 hours and then began drying out. Just be aware of that should you play in the AM. Other than that, the fairways, greens, tee boxes and sand traps are in excellent condition. There still seems to be some fungus problem on some greens, but not as many as last month.

Played this morning in 3.5 hours. That was the good news, other than great service in shop; restaurant and by Marshal Joe. Course is undergoing fairway aerating on the back and holes 10, 11, 15, 18 are less than pristine. I would expect this to continue for awhile, as no fairways on the front have been touched? Many of the greens seem to have a fungus around the edges? No real problem with hole location or putting being affected. A lot of tight lies due to short grass in fairways. If I was giving the course a rating from 1 to 10, I would have to give it a 6 at this time.

Let's be clear, this is one of the slowest courses in the country. I have played this course on weekday afternoons around 30 times and only twice did we finish before 5 hours. The combination of fivesomes and no marshalls means that by the afternoon, it will be a 5 to 6 hour round and in one case, 6.5 hours. That said, it has one of the best views in Southern California, one of the cheapest rates, and if you are ready for a 5 hour round, it is definitely worth playing. They re-did much of the course about 4 months ago and overall it was an improvement.

As for the course, the fairways are in ok shape. Like many Southern Cal courses, they are stingy with the water but they do a good job watering the more important areas. The rough is thin but is relatively easy to hit off of. The sandtraps were just recently redone. The sand is good but in many cases is now very thin. This can cause you to hit the clay at the bottom of the sand trap.

Out at LV this Friday morning around 7AM, got around in 4 1/2 hours waiting on most shots, $27 to walk. Greens were not mown on the front so they were a bit slow and not tracking very well, but by the time we got on the back, the greens crew were out and they were rolling very nice. Near perfect poa ... unless you landed in areas where fungus has started to set in on some greens. It's not on every one, I hope they can stop it before it gets ugly. Kikuyu fairways, in reality, are spotty at best. Some landing areas have decent patches of green grass and others are hard pan, many times in the middle of the fairway. I didn't have a decent lie until the 6th hole, so many shots were back in the stance, ball first type swings. Playing #11: I suggest that you just lay up directly in front of the middle bunker (about 185-200 from the blues) because right now anything left or right is hard pan ... or fly the bunker and put it on the green (about a 240-250 carry). Many areas away from the rough are not getting water for conservation reasons, so it's kinda a lottery pick on what type of lie you'll get ... chances are it'll be crappy. Bunkers were recently conditioned and have super nice sand, and great to play from with no footprints ... at least that was the case this morning. Teeing areas improved since the last time I played here in May: mostly green, level, and not beat up too bad ... I didn't need a hammer to get my tee in the ground. The course is decent but far from great ... a notch below good. I'd recommend it only due to the excellent putting surfaces, as long as they mow them before you play ... and play early to avoid the 5-6 hour round.

Finally! After a year and a half of playing just about every other course in the South Bay, I finally got a chance to play Los Verdes - no way I was going on a weekend with all the horror stories. So got off work early on Thursday and got a great $18 deal walking the course, starting at 3:30pm.

Joined up with a threesome of great guys who were very helpful as I'd never played the course before. Conditions were pretty darn good if you ask me - sure, some dry spots on the fairways, but nothing that wasn't playable. The greens at LV are very tough - fast and very difficult to read. Looks like new sand in the bunkers so that was nice. Tee boxes a bit of a mixed bag - some too soft, some rock hard, but nothing to complain about.

Now POP was and remains apparently an issue at Los Verdes. We barely finished the 18 so that means it was around 8:30pm when finishing up - a 5 hour round when it 'wasn't that busy' according to personnel. Tells you everything you need to know. But man, there are some beautiful sights on that back 9 and what a sunset going down on the 16th hole.

Was pretty bummed out though after looking at the old pictures of the course before the new changes. Apparently there was no bunker in front of the green on hole 11 before, and I hit the drive of my life that was headed straight for it but ended up in the bunker instead - had to settle for par.

Really enjoyable round in the end but it's quite a workout walking so keep that in mind. I can't wait to go back, but again, only in circumstances like yesterday's. No way that I'm going back on a weekend still.

We played this AM in 3 hrs 15 minutes so a wonderful POP. Course is in good shape but you can see they are using water carefully. Some brown areas in fairways but does not effect play. Greens are in great shape, as well as tee boxes and bunkers. FYI Thursdays seem to be slow there currently? The new super they brought in last year has/is doing a great job with all the play it is getting. Now here is a new word of caution for those who play there. The local police have decided to sit at the bottom of the entrance to catch those of you who go faster than 25 miles down the hill. Watched 3 people get caught this morning and I understand they have been doing this regularly. Be advised so you don't really spoil your golfing day other than playing badly.
