Pace play was a brisk 5 hours on a Monday. Greens are healing nicely. They roll true so trust your line and make the putt.

Fairways are ok. They need water in some areas and bare in others. Same thing goes for rough. It's thin and not very punishing. Tee boxes are flat. Bunkers are well stocked with nice white loose sand.

At 27 to walk and a 5 hour round walking make be the more savvy route. Play here again? Sure just play earlier. Btw walked on at 11am and put on list. Waited 30 mins to get out and ended up 5 groups behind when they signed me up.

Played early Sunday (6:52AM) at LV with the Men's Club, got around in 4:20 walking and kept pace with the public group ahead of us. Second half of the green punching strategy was on the mend, but the first half has come back nicely ... it's still soft Poa and the footprints can pay havoc around the cup ... we had more than a few roll out of the hole. Still a fungus among us on many greens. Fairways are decent to poor depending on the rub you get, I'd give you a 75% chance you'll get a good lie. The rough is a different story: it's patchy from thick grass to hardpan, again the rub will determine your lie. Wire grass has been allowed to multiply (like the fungus), don't know what to think about the priorities here as far as preventative maintenance. Missed the bunkers today, but I know some were wet and heavy from the griping of my playing partners. Lastly, all I can say is if you play here, play early or don't even complain about the slow golf here ... you've been warned.

Played this morning in 3.5 hours. I think people thought today there would be holiday rates (not the case) and stayed away? To bad they plan to aerate the other half of the greens tomorrow, as they were in great shape today. All the tee boxes were clean/level. Fairways were in better shape this week and provided better roll and lies. Bunkers (not in any) appeared fine and heard no complaints from those that were in them. Fog stayed away all morning, allowing an enjoyable round of golf. Great customer service in the restaurant and shop. Noticed they now have two marshals out making sure things move smoothly.

Played this morning and pace of play was fine. Under 4 hours. Greens were just punched last week and are still rough and healing. The 1/2 of the greens untouched are very rough, dry and no doubt the latest heat wave did not help them. They will be punched next week. So putting was not ideal at all. Tee boxes, fairways and sand traps all in good shape. Customer service was very good as usual.

Got an invite from some MC buds at LV so I took them up on the offer, off at 6:40 and finish about 4:45 later, pitifully slow for such an early time ... 5-somes. It's hit an miss here at LV these days, mostly miss. Poa greens rolling a decent medium speed but many putts missed due to uneven surfaces around the hole (soft spike marks) or away from the hole due to a fungus over taking some areas. I hope they get that stuff under control. Dry Kikuyu in many areas but mostly green and playable if your down the middle. Thin rough along the fairways edges and some real bad lies if you roll out beyond that. Bunkers have good sand, some were raked, some not. I don't play here that often anymore and I remember why ... it'll probably be a few more months before I return. Not a bad experience, just not as good of condition as it was prior to the drought.

Played the SCGA one day tournament, 9-13-2014, 8:20am tee time. Started 15 mins late. POP was about 5:30, slow play but typicial of this golf course. Tee boxes were in good shape and leveled, greens in good condition and quick. Fairways were ok, mostly green with some dry patches and wet spots. Great views and enjoyed the 82 degrees ocean breeze since it was 106 degrees in the valley.

Really enjoyed my day at Los Verdes (besides the long drive, I know, I know sixpez, at two hours the car is just starting to warm-up) today (besides the long round).

Really enjoyed my day at Los Verdes (besides the long drive, I know, I know sixpez, at two hours the car is just starting to warm-up) today (besides the long round).
These other fellas pretty much said it all. I will add that the course, to me, is like if Balboa Park and Torrey got married (maybe that's why I played so well?), it felt like home. Great views, nice breeze, tricky greens, good sand in the bunkers, but, the layout creates logjams and backups. Just want to say the staff was great, saw the snack cart often and the prices were very reasonable.
Long drive, tough to get to, but today, well worth it!

Played in a SCGA One-Day tournament with 9:32 tee time. With a 20 min delay at the start, I turn in my scorecard at 3:45 pm. Yes, POP was over 6 hours. This is why, I only play this course once a year. But its worth it because of the views of ocean and the challenging greens.

Played here today as part of an SCGA one-day tournament. $55 for entry, but that didn't include cart. I ended up walking anyway and that worked out fine. I was in the 8:28 group and we started about 10-15 minutes late and then the pace was slow all day. Every time it looked like things were opening up a bit, we'd hit another bottleneck. Some of that attributed to SCGA tourney play and other parts are just the course. There are just some bad spots on this course with semi-blind tee shots and they had #10 playing way up with the orange tees because they were setting up for a wedding later on the back tee box. That made the hole drivable and 10-12 was a big logjam with two short par-4s and a par-3 all back-to-back-to-back. Just under 5.5-hour pace. Saw a few familiar GK faces out there today, including Eaglee and rat-patrol, who dominated the course with an awesome score. Congrats, Jim! Other than the pace, there was a lot to like about the course today. I thought it was in overall good shape. I thought the tee boxes were very good. The fairways had their thin spots, but mostly quite good in my opinion. The rough is a mixed bag as they obviously aren't devoting much water to those areas. There are some bare dirt patches, the occasional thick lush patch and everything in between. You get what you get and just have to make it work. I wasn't in a bunker, but they looked nice. I thought the greens were excellent. Rolling at good speeds and true. I only noticed a couple that had a little brown-ness on the outer edges like 24hourgolf noted in his review from earlier this week. Otherwise, I thought they were great. This was my second time playing here and I only signed up for the tournament as a perfect excuse to come back without having to try my luck as a walk-on weekend player. The pace was still slow with the tournament play, but I enjoyed myself plenty. This is a really fun layout in a gorgeous setting. It's a county course that gets a ton of play, so I never would set my expectations too high with the conditions, but the layout and views are even better than I remember. It was a gorgeous day and the stretch of 15-16 is definitely Torrey-esque. Everyone should make it a point to try and play here at least once, but the crowds and getting out to RPV are deterrents for me to come back too regularly.
