Played with stickboy this morning, tee time was at 9:30 but in keeping with los verdes tradition we teed off at 10:10. It was a beautiful day, catalina was as clear as could be. The course was in great condition from tee box to green and did not see any sign of excessive ball marks on any of the greens. We did have a little controversy, on the second hole stickboy thought the group in front of us was out of reach when he almost took them out. He apologized and all was forgiven. By the time we finished it was almost six hours later. So for anybody looking to kill time, I can't think of a better place to do it

Greens are relatively smooth coming back from the punching earlier in the month. Beautiful day, cool, but not a hint of breeze. breaking to the ocean severely as your putt slows down. If you over do on the break when putting, you can hit more than a few putts.

The greens have been lightly sanded, not punched as previouly stated. But they are cut short, fast, and just a bit on the bumpy side. Usual LV fairways (seven blends of grass & weed) with no distinction as to where the fairway ends and the rough begins. Good bunkers, though, at least if the guys ahead of you are using the rakes (50-50 chance) ... the sand was fresh and easy to hit out of. Tee times are always behind as the course plays slow (don't ask why) and they always send out early groups before the first tee time which pushes everyone else's time back 15-20 minutes, a practice I wish they would eliminate.

The greens were punched on Tuesday. Besides that, the course was playing pretty good. Watch out for for people stealing your ball.

The second side of the punched greens are close to mended, so they should be good until Springtime. The greenskeeper decided to hold back on water so the fairways are drying out in this recent warm weather, at least for today, with rain scheduled for Friday PM. The wire grass is taking on a life of its own with no end in sight, so beware. Played on a Thursday morning in 4 hours flat, hard to believe.

I read the previous post and felt for the guy, he learned a tough lesson at LV, please take note unless you want to wind up disappointed. Gotta get a time early to play this baby.

We had a Sunday, 7am time, teed off at 7:10, finished in 4:40 which by LV standards is very good. Fairways still thin and hurtin', bunkers were in decent condition meaning no hardpan, and the rest of the course is, well, LA County. Food in the clubhouse is not bad, though and the beer is cold. Plus, it was probably 20 degrees cooler than any inland course today.

My High School Home course looked in great condition!! YES I ONLY said looked....Why you say??? Well it is a monday today and I got up and got to Los Verdes at 545 in the morning to only be the 3rd on the list as a single.. I think wooohooo, GREAT!! 1 hour later I go to check where I was, still third on the list and come to find out 20 minutes behund on tee times.. After watching 3 different 5 somes go out all players playing from the Blues and cannot even hit there drives over 150 yards nor straight. ALL 15 people!!! Ridiculous!! Wonder why they are behind because they put out members who think they own the course and move SLOW AS MOLASSES!!! People always ask why I travel to play. Because I travel 45 minutes to pay less, be in a smaller group and finish in 4 hrs. not 5 1/2 plus hour rounds.. Ohhh and outta town prices are with carts. If you are going to play Los Verdes, first see if you can even get a descent tee time in advance, and if you do a wait list bring a sleeping bag you will need it.. It is VERY SAD this GREAT GOLF COURSE is poorly managed and not run properly. I will PASS on this course 9 times out of 10. This is absolutely not the first second ot third time this has happened.

FYI: the driving range is open and looking good ... new balls and mats ... some nice landscaping to top it off. Some sunny weather has helped the course as the fairways have been upgraded from dogpat... Continue »

FYI: the driving range is open and looking good ... new balls and mats ... some nice landscaping to top it off. Some sunny weather has helped the course as the fairways have been upgraded from dogpatch to poor/fair, but the poa greens are in decent shape depending on the mower cut. Probably get real bumpy later in the day. Played Sunday: 6:45 tee time, teed off at 7, finished at 11:20. Usual clientle bouncing around, not raking bunkers, carts up by greens, etc. BTW: my friend getting the tee time for next week scratched two guys off the list because they weren't in their cars at 4AM ... so don't try to put your name on the tee time list and run home, you'll be disappointed when you try to get a time at 5AM.

First time I played here, and for a $25 walking fee on a Monday afternoon you can't beat this course. Ocean views all around, and some really beautiful views on the back nine. Course was in decent shape. A few of the greens looked like an army of golfers trampled on them and the footprints sunk into the green.

On the neg side - took 6 hours to complete - on a Monday afternoon. We started at 2pm and was the last 5some to complete play. I was told that the weekends are worse and I believe it. It's worth a play but be forewarned about the time it will take.
