I played here last Friday with Noel and his regular group. My first time on this course. I have to say I do like it. It's very inexpensive to play here. I paid $38 which included green fees, cart, and a burger with fries for lunch. Not bad!

The course was in great shape. Much more hilly terrain than I thought I would find.

Tees (we played the white tees) were level and lush. Not too many divots on the par threes. Fairways and rough were in fine shape with lots of lush turf and good coverage most everywhere. Bunkers were decent, but the sand was wet, coarse, and tricky to hit from. I tried to finesse my ball out of a couple with about a 50% success rate. A couple of the regulars seem to favor explosion shots. The greens rolled at a medium fast pace and seemed to speed up later in the round. There's lots of undulations and most of the greens were elevated in relation to the fairways. It was very challenging IMO.

All in all, I thought this was a really good course and Noel's regular group of guys were all pleasant and I was not upset that I had to give up $20 for the side games, lol.

09/12/21 round at Muroc Lake gc inside the Edwards Air Force Base. It’s in the south most side of the Kern county, so close to the north most side of LA county as it butt ends each other and it is a great deal and a value. Right now their course is in pretty good playing conditions. The greens are slow- to medium but fair and smooth. The fairways are lush- yup, I just said lush. But this is still Muroc Lake, a military facility, but one can only imagine how good the course could be with good well maintained golf turf. I consider myself lucky for I remember when this course was pure bent grass greens but don’t ask me. I was like a year and a few months in the game when I first visited here. I also remember the greens not being so undulated- I think a redesign has happened. When I first saw it, I was comparing the greens of Muroc’s with the greens at El Cab cc as they were both so pure and healthy during that same time. It was fast but not crazy. Deep emerald greens and sharp edges all around the course. Just walking on the course made you proud of the game and the military at the same time.
Anyway the recent rain made the grass even healthier than it has already been.
And to think, I’ve also seen this greens gets so fast back then that it becomes unplayable in the windy days they get.
Right now the whole course, it’s pretty healthy and it all just depends on who’s cutting or how low do they want to run the greens.
I hope they lower it for next month’s championship.
If you have any means to get on base, you’ll see that it’s current conditions surpasses many of the munis and that is a great value for the bucks these days.
I feel so lucky and proud of the military for having a local program like this.

Play day: 04/03/21 at 07:10 Nice day with very little wind. The greens were in good shape and smooth- medium fast except for a few greens (1-4) which weren't mowed yet. The fairways were also in good shape- runs a little with lush grass coverage. The roughs were patchy. It is not a good spot to be in on many cases as your ball could sit in between grass and barren lie. The teeing grounds are also good with grass coverage. Bunkers are with sand and they're okay to get out of. The food service in the restaurant is good and they are back and open with limited inside sitting. The classic burger and home chips are the bomb! Although The deal at the pro shop with a bundle deal is even better. For $35 You get the burger fries meal with a drink and a token with your cart and a golf round. So if you're frugal and want to stay on fairways and greens- This place is it! :-)

Edwards Air Force Base are slowly opening the base for guests and retirees from a recent closure from Covid. I have been fortunate to come in prior to the recent aeration and also last Wednesday and yesterday. The recent weather after the series of fires have been great with some good air quality. Blue skies and calm breeze in the high 80s that never gets there as we finish early has been a very nice change. The fairways are lush, but there are not much rough along the fairways although the greenside roughs can be brutal in a 5 inch deep in most cases. The greens are healing nicely and evenly. It was much better yesterday than Wednesday of course and as it should be. It would be nice to play it this coming weekend on a club championship setting. The greenside bunkers have sand although you may find a few pebbles or small rocks on occasion. The fairway bunkers are with shallow sand and are pretty easy to get out of considering how close the ball is from its fore-lip. The teeing grounds are in good shape- some may not be level depending on where the markers are placed. The course is becoming more of a pleasure to play than when things didn't go so well in 2018. The grill/restaurant is open for patio dining or to go orders. Not quite as busy as it were... it is slowly coming back is all I can say with pleasure.

On a very super windy day with patchy clouds on Saturday, 06/13/20, an unexpected crowd was in and made it a fun day.

Greens here have not been as fast as it had been for a handful of years, but it was smooth and rolling true.

Bunkers are with sand but could use more- no rakes.

Roughs are patchy with tall and browned with some baren lies.

Fairways are nicely mowed tight and the teeing grounds are good, too.

No beverage cart here.

The grill is open for to go orders.

Staff is good.

It was a cloudy cold and windy day that ended the our last three holes in the rain during a fun competition, SCGA Team Play.

The course was okay, with good smooth greens in medium fast. The bunkers were okay with sand, and the fairways were in good shape. The teeing grounds were fine.

Not too many other players were on the course so the pace were around four hours and 15 minutes.

In any case, this military base allows the Antelope Valley residents on the premises provided they apply for a pass. Typically, $35 gets you a cart, a burger w/fries meal with a drink and a second round, and if you want to go out again, another $12 for a cart fee. Full pro shop with quality merchandise in a discounted rate and no tax- gotta love that.

This time, our boys returned the favor back to CCC from last week’s event- all fun and very competitive, MLGC rises up top.

The kitchen outdid themselves with a really nice seafood plated meal and desserts- impressive!

It is not like this meal on regular days, it’s just a regular fast food diner, but during tournaments they put on a good meal.

I just wished it was a nicer weather.

Saturday 032319 was a windy day on the cooler side in the morning that warmed up to high 60s without a cloud, and it was a tough day to make any good thing happen.

The course is in good shape- coming back strong from the winter weather with lots of help from the rain we've had. The greens are not fast, but it was nice and smooth- receptive on higher approaches... the greens are hardening and may need aeration sometime soon. The fairways and the teeing grounds were in good shape, and the bunkers were better than okay, but the rough is patchy and mostly uneven (yikes!).

Pro shop and the restaurant have good service. No beverage cart.

Muroc Lake Golf Course is in a town called Edwards.

Review: the overall course conditions are fair.
Greens: this is the best thing here in MLGC. Rolling smoothly and at a good speed- eleven probably during the early morning prior to mowers.
Bunkers: are good but with old sand- some pebbles, but not clay clumps- not the best quality sand. Not bad.
Fairways are the second best thing here, it’s really lush, green, but doesn’t get the run so the course could play a little longer.
Rough: I’m not a fan. There aren’t much of it, but it’s like weeds or cabbage.. it grabs the club and doesn’t get through. It looks easy to get out of, but not. Outside of that are baren lies with sand, stones, and rocks that can damage your club. Find the fairway!
Teeing grounds: they’re good.

I’d give this course a low 80s in comparison to similar course layout.
