POP ok, just a little over 4hrs for our foursome. The course wasn't very crowded.

Played from the tips and it ate my lunch (and quite a few golf balls too). Most aspects of the course are in good to very good condition.

Highlight are the greens which are firm-ish so you need a well struck shot for them to hold. There's a bit of poa growth but they run smooth and pretty fast. Only thing marring them is unrepaired ball marks here and there - 8.5/10. Tees and sand good. Most fairways are nice and lush with good lies - a few are a tad thinner and there's occasional browner spots but still a solid 8/10. Rough is as green and lush as I've see it here in a while. Still, I'd like to see it thicker surrounding the fairways so the mounding does its job of repelling the ball back into play.

I think the key here is driving accuracy and position off the tee. It's real tight visually and in actuality - in addition on some holes (5, 6, 8, 15, 17) you have to be in the right spot to be able to attack certain pins. Also, if you are not straight then it's likely going to be a long day.

FYI they close the range at 3 pm Mondays so get there a bit early if you have a later tee-time on Mondays.

Played here Sunday afternoon 5/12. The course is in very nice condition. Fairways and tee boxes lush and green. There is no rough to speak of, just mounded areas that define the edges of the fairway. The two greenside bunkers I was in had plenty of good quality sand. The greens were running medium fast and rolling true. However, they are very firm, and do not hold shots well. Thoroughly enjoyed the round. Although a challenging track, it's in very nice shape. Go Play!

Played a late afternoon round with my GK golf buddies Chaz59 and tonybarrett. I get a good rate on Friday afternoons here and it makes it well worth while. The new carts are nice; although I never had a bad cart previous to this round. The pace on this particular day started real slow due to a slow twosome and a single out in front of us. However, we passed them on the par 5 fourth hole and came back to the fourth when we finished 18. Total time was 4:15; not too bad. I was pushing our group to play fast and I feel bad about it. We were getting pushed by a quicker threesome after the turn, who must have also passed the three slower golfers. Overall, the course is back from aeration, and the rough (what little there is) is starting to green up. Fairway grass is lush and cut tight enough to get great roll. Greens were firm, medium fast, and rolled true. The greenside bunkers had a lot of white, fluffy sand and the fairway bunkers were just hard dirt, like always. I played the blue tees and found them to be really level and lush. The guys played the whites and those tees were somewhat uneven, but just as lush. I highly recommend this course and its restaurant and bar. I plan to come back often.

Played today. 70 degree day with 15-20 mph winds. Sunny and pleasant. Fairways - generally lush, and running relatively fast. Rough - slowly growing back after dormancy during the winter Greens - hard and relatively fast. Rolling true and really enjoying putting on them today. Greenside bunkers- was in 3 bunkers, and all had great quality sand. Conditions overall... excellent. Now the bad. I've been playing here for many years and I consider this my home course. Pace of play has been just horrible the last several times I've played. Had mid morning tee time and it took over 5 hours, on a Tuesday morning. I have long given up playing here on weekends. Course staff was out to move people along, but it was just unacceptable. In my opinion, both Robinson courses are just plain too difficult for most people. These courses are very narrow with numerous shots that involve a forced carry. Players are spending prolonged time search for balls, which quite honestly, will not be found in the deep desert. Also, having played many times with good female golfers, I believe that the forward tees are still too long for many women (given the narrow fairways, doglegs and forced carries). Also, I find way too many men are playing black and blue tees and they have NO business doing so. Full disclosure, I am a mid single handicap golfer and shoot 75-80 on these courses. Even though I can hit a driver in excess of 250 yards, I never have felt qualified to play the tips and will often play the white tees and still feel challenged. Clearly pace of play is an huge issues everywhere , not just here. However, it would be great if the management could figure a way to have people play just a bit faster ( less than 5 hours is a start). The layout and course conditions are really good and hard to complain about.

Played 4/7/13 on the Valley with a 9:18 tee time. We found a deal on golfnow for $60/per person, and it was good on weekends. Very good deal. PoP was about 5:10. Slow round...mostly because of the difficulty of this course.

The course was in pretty good shape. The rough is starting to grow in now, which helps grab errant shots and keeping them in to the barranca. The greens were fast and firm. They held good shots pretty well, but I didn't see anyone spin the ball back all day. They rolled true and held lines well. However, the greens were pretty beat up. Lots of ball marks on every green. Some repaired, many were not. The fairways were mostly lush. Some unrepaired divots, but not bad. The tee boxes are a mess. It can be difficult finding a level spot to tee from on many of the holes. The couple we played with made many references to the same issue.

This course has some drawbacks for me...especially at the full weekend rack rate of $117. Biggest offenders: No GPS on the carts...makes playing these courses for the first time a bit frustrating. The driving range...why can't a course that charges this amount of money spring for some new mats? If you are willing to spend this $120 to play on a weekend, there are many better options...Angeles National, Moorpark Country Club, and Tierra Rejada are three that come to mind. If you can get a good deal on Robinson, go for it.

Even though it took only 5hrs 25 min to play today from 10:05, what a place to spend the time, with a fun foursome. Terrific layout and heaps of challenge. Nice facilities and staff throughout; AND brand new golf carts (no GPS).
Greens fast, but holding ok and mostly smooth. Fairways were quick, and a mixture of grasses. Same with the approaches and collars which included some blotchy patches of poa/bermuda?? Sand was fine, but I did slice down to the liner in one of them due to lack of sand thickness. Rough is semi dormant (see kviser below) and some greening peaking through. What a great track to live near enough to play regularly. Should be a blast for the GK event.

Played the Valley Course on Easter Sunday. The course was in great shape: lush conditions everywhere except for the rough (dormant). The greens have fully healed from last month's aeration and are medium fast. Great pace of play due to the holiday and intermittent rain showers. It only slowed up for us at the 13th hole when we caught up to a slower threesome who seemed to not notice us as they searched up and down the brush looking for errant shots and spent a lot of time talking to each other rather than playing golf. LOL. The course does have new scorecards. Mountain on one side and Valley Course on the other side. They are two-sided, trifold, with pinsheets on top. Overall, we finished in about 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Played 3/18. First time playing Robinson. I enjoyed the layout. Nice variety of holes. I agree with the many that suggest the driver is not always the best choice. I was surprised the carts do not have GPS. There were several holes it would have been helpful because trouble is not always visible from the tee (ie: creeks crossing fairways). I guess I should have inquired about a yardage book.

The conditions were a mixed bag of fair to very good. The fairways were very good. The rough is dormant so it is brown and thin but playable. The bunkers had good sand. The tee boxes were fair to good. The greens are a little bumpy from aeration and rolled medium speed. The greens are also on the firms side. The started said the greens have not recovered from aeration as quickly as normal due the cold mornings and frost. They have nice facilities and friendly staff. It was worth the drive from OC. I look forward to returning to play the Mountain course.
