Played this morning and had an awesome time. Have I seen the course in better shape? Absolutely. The fairways are still pretty bare. However, they are far better than when I last played here three months ago. The recent rains seemed to have helped. I think the next time I play I'll play relaxed rules in regard to fairway lies. But the course conditions are not what keep me coming back. It's the location, customer service, and challenging layout. Okay, and the greens are fabulous.

Please note that this is NOT a course for beginners. Even experienced golfers will not score well here if they're not hitting the ball straight. There is no place to bail out on any hole. Can you play all 18 without losing a ball? It's not easy. I've done is a few times here and that is one challenge that keeps me coming back.

Would I pay rack rate to play here? Probably not. For me this course is worth $59 on a good weather weekday, $45 when it's windy. I look for specials on groupgolfer.com and also at Costco.

It’s a great layout but man, is this course a brutal test of golf right now. Its already rated from the blue tees 72.4/139 but then add to that how firm and thin the fairways/rough is, I had 10 penalty strokes today. Speaking on the greens, they were immaculate in my opinion. Firm, fast and smooth. Just a pleasure to play. The fairways, were mix between green and brown thin grass. The rough was mostly bare of grass with occasional areas of thin coverage. I did not go into a bunker today so I can’t rate them. The tee boxes were light green, thin grass, yet very playable, no complaints there. I have run many outings at Robinson Ranch and played many rounds there, I love the layout, service and facility. It really is top-notch. But right now the course conditions, with exception to the greens, are not. I still had a great time today although. Thank you TheBigDog, rgm2525 and zebwelborn for joining me.

We played the Valley Course on 2/15/2015..We called in ahead of time and were told the course was in great condition by the pro shop..If this is great condition I am curious to see what bad condition looks like as course is the worste condition of any course I have played in many years. Basically playing off of dirt other than the tee boxes and greens. Also we were paired with a singled who got discounted rate by starter and when we asked for that rate they basically laughed at us....For almoust $100 this course is an absolute rip off....NEVER PLAY HERE....

This course is in terrible shape compared to when I played it 6 months ago. There is literally no rough at all. The ball runs faster in the rough than one the fairway. It is near impossible to hold a rough currently. The ball goes far because it is so dry, but it is not pleasant. The fairways are patchy at best. The greens are amazing as always and that is the only positive thing about my round today. I won't be coming back for a long while. It is really sad that the well broke, but they need to do something in the interim. They lowered their membership rates, but it is not worth it at all. It reminds me of Lost Canyons, it is in that bad of shape.

Right now, the best part of the course is the condition of the greens. They are running medium fast and true. I was told that since the watering is at a bare minimum, the poa is way down and the greens are benefitting from it. Currently, the Valley Course has some green grass in the fairways; however, due to a lack of water, there is not a lot of grass. As you get farther from the middle, you will find less and less turf to hold shots. Rough is almost non-existent: brown stubble to almost dirt in many areas. It is somewhat better than the Mountain Course. I was told the soil profile is different and the Mountain has better root structure, so the little bit of water goes to the Valley Course. Either way, despite the brown appearance and tight lies, there is something to hit from. Tees were lush, but a few were a little uneven. Driver may not always be your friend. Bunkers in the fairways were nothing more than hardpan dirt, while the greenside bunkers looked nice with lots of light-colored sand. If you are playing on a discount, great. Pray for a lot of rain and some good fortune for this course.

Played here with a friend on Monday 11/3. DISAPPOINTING! The drought has taken its' toll on this course. First the good news. The greens are in fantastic shape. Smooth, medium fast, and rolled very well. The greenside bunkers have beautiful sand. No complaints here. However, the rest of the course is in poor condition, other than the tee boxes - which are OK. The fairways are straw like in color and VERY thin. Anywhere you hit in the fairway you're just as likely to be on dirt as on very thin straw like grass. The areas around the greens are mostly dirt or spotty dead grass (with a few exceptions). This made for very challenging chips and pitches onto the greens. If you were not extremely precise with your contact you could easily blade or chunk the shot. No way to get under the ball for many of the soft shots needed to hold the green. This made the round unenjoyable for me. I will not play this course again until the fairways come back. Too many other choices with decent fairways.

Played 8/6. Greens near perfect, although not as fast as they normally are. Fairways are a bit thin, with some patchy areas. Rough is practically nonexistent. Minimum water is being used to maintain both courses here. If you miss the fairway you will be looking for your ball because there is usually nothing to stop it from rolling into the junk. Water levels in the lakes are down about 8 feet. It's dry, but still very playable. Customer service is always great.

That is when the course has grass.
This trip found zero rough so anything slightly off center ran through into the natural areas or traps. All the fairways were tight lies with hard ground underneath. There was zero rough because it was cut too short or bare. When you found grass it was dry.
Half of the traps were hard and had little sand.
The greens had zero hold with no chance at any front pins.
I love the layout but would not go back until the put a significant amount of water on the course.
Not even for free much less the $89/$59 weekday price.
