I always enjoy a round at Goose Creek. Teed off Tuesday at 7:50 and finished in just short of 4 hours. The course is in very good condition. The greens had been verticut so the green speed was medium but they rolled decent and played a little firm. The fairways had good coverage. The rough was good and at a playable height. The bunkers were good with plenty of sand and groomed. The tee boxes were good. The only real downside to the conditions were the unfilled divots due to the lack of sand bottles.

The SCGA Amateur Championships will be held at Goose August 17th - 20th (Monday-Thursday). Tee times may be hard to get if at all for those few days. Goose Creek has changed its single rider cart policy. Riders will be paired up in carts. For those who wish to ride single there will be and extra $10 charge. The staff was friendly.

Teed off Wednesday at 7:05 and finished in 4 hours. The putting green was open with a maximum of 6 people at a time. The driving range is open. The course website asks that if you want to hit balls before your round show up 30 minutes before your tee time.

The course conditions are holding up well from my last review six weeks ago. The greens (aside from some unrepaired ball marks) rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had good coverage. The rough was good with a few thin/bare spots and not to penal. The bunkers had playable sand although a bit wet in spots. The tee boxes are fair to good mostly due to mild unlevelness. The staff was very friendly.

Teed off at 7:35 finishing in 3:40. It has been two years since I played the course and the conditions have vastly improved. The greens rolled fairly smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had very good coverage. The rough around the green complexes is in excellent shape. The rough along the fairways is cut low with some thin/bare spots. The bunkers are good. The tee boxes were in good shape.

There is no GPS in the carts so first timers might find it helpful to have a yardage book. The staff was very friendly.

Played Olivas Links for the first time Wednesday from the blue tees. Teed off at 9am finishing in 4:25. Decided with traffic still on the lighter side to travel from Orange County. The course was worth the drive. Nice layout with a variety of holes. Most holes provide a decent amount of room off the tee. The greens had a fair amount of undulation but nothing crazy. Not knowing the course hurt me a couple of times. Look forward to playing it again. There is a nice driving range, chipping green with bunker, and putting green. All three were open. The staff was very friendly.

The greens rolled good with medium/fast speed. They played a little firm especially on pitch shots. The fairways were in nice shape with decent roll out on tee shots. The rough had a good playable height. Beyond the rough is trouble. The bunker I was in played well (after I smoothed out a spot and dropped the ball) and had good sand. The tee boxes were mostly good with some mild unlevelness. Overall the a well maintained course.

I have not driven from OC to play Oceaside GC since the turf reduction project was completed several years ago. I was not sure how I would like the turf reduction but i liked it. Most of the turf reduction areas are hard dirt and very playable. I teed off as a single at 7:20. Finished in just over 3 hours taking my time and enjoying the morning.

The course overall was in good condition. The greens rolled fairly smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways were in good condition. No signs of the fairway aeration of a week ago. There were a few brown/thin spots but I had good lies all round. The rough was good with a playable height. The bunkers were a bit damp but I was able to play from the three I was in. The tee boxes were fair to good mostly due to mild unlevelness.

Teed off Monday at 6:40 finishing in 4 hours. Prior reviews have it right. The Costa Mesa CC has done a great job keeping the course up during the closure. The greens had been verticut but putted smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had good coverage with a few thin spots but had good lies all day. The rough was good and cut to a playable height. The bunkers had good sand but of course without rakes there were many foot prints. The sand was easy to smooth a spot with my foot then drop my ball and play from the sand. The tee boxes had good coverage with only mild unlevelness. Masks worn in common areas only. Check in was at a window to the pro shop. Waiver had to be signed which can be printed from the website. Staff was Friendly.

Covid-19 precautions in place. Tee times were 10 minutes apart. Designated line outside the starter shack for check in and card payment. Masks required prior to tee off. Driving range is open with proper distancing. The cups had a piece foam in them slightly below the surface of the green with the flagsticks through the foam. Easy to grab the ball without touching anything.

Teed off Thursday about 6:50 and finished in 4 hours. The Greens were in good condition. They rolled with medium speed and held shots. The fairways were mostly good with some thin spots. The rough was decent and cut to a manageable length. The bunkers had good sand. No rakes so used foot to smooth sand. The tee boxes were fair to good mostly due to mild unlevelness. Considering the course was recently opened it was manicured better than I thought it would be.

Teed off Thursday morning about 7am and finished in 4 hours. The greens are in good condition. They rolled with medium/fast speed and were firm. Difficult to get short irons to hold. The fairways have good coverage overall with some winter thin spots. The rough was mostly good with some thin/bare spots. The bunkers were in good shape aside from some rocks and people not racking foot prints. The tee boxes had decent coverage and were mildly unlevel in spots. Always enjoy a round at Eldo. Good course with friendly employees.

Teed off Wednesday about 7:10 and finished in 3:15. Started out as a single. A threesome asked me to play through on #4. The twosomes ahead were playing fast enough I finished as a single. The Greens were in very good condition. They rolled with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways mostly had good coverage with a some winter thin areas. Hole 16 has a fairway section that is patch work but it is manageable. The rough is winter thin to a couple inches so lies vary. The bunkers had plenty of sand but are fairly moist early in the morning. The tee boxes are fair. Some are a bit chewed up and/or a little unlevel. The staff were all friendly.

There is a map of the new single course configuration in the pro shop. The new course is slated to open at the start of 2021. The first 13 holes are the Classic course holes 1-13 in the current order. The last 5 holes will come from the players. If I read the map properly, the Players course holes 18 will be 14, the par 4 10th will be converted to a par 3 as 15, 1 will play the opposite direction as 16, 8 will be 17, and 9 will be 18. Hope I got that correct.

Teed off Saturday, 1/18, just after 11am finishing in 5:05. About what I would expect for a late morning weekend tournament. The greens we in good condition rolling medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had mostly good coverage with some winter thin spots. The rough was good along the fairways and around the greens. The length was enough to affect shots but not to penal. The bunkers were in good condition with no complaints form the group (other than our play). The tee boxes were fair to good. A few tee boxes were a bit thin on grass and mildly unlevel but playable. Good track with nice variety. Good practice facilities, good food, and friendly staff.

Teed off Wednesday at 7:20 and finished in 4:25. Typically I get around in about 4 hours but had a 4some in front of us that were a hole and a half behind. The greens were in good condition rolling smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had mostly good coverage. There were some thin spots and a couple of fairways still showing some effects of the heavy rains 12 days ago. The rough was decent. Medium height with some soft spots and thin/bare spots. The tee boxes had decent coverage but were a little unlevel in spots. The bunkers had plenty of sand but were a little wet and a bit compacted in spots. Overall the course is in good winter condition with good greens. The staff was friendly.
