Played here on Thursday at 3:30 for $55. I must say I was impressed with the course. We played the Desert and Mountain Nine. I have heard nothing but negative things about this course for the last year. Everything from poor greens to brown fairways. I used to play this course all the time when it was Robinson Ranch in the early 2000's. Except for the green on the Desert #9 that was really roughed up everything thing else was in great shape. The fairways and the greens were fantastic. The greens are a little slow but rolled true. A few bunkers were a little hard but I also understand that their bunkers are not going to be a priority. Very impressed especially since i heard nothing but negative things about this course.

Do not bother with this course. Awful shape, starter straight up lied to us on the phone told us the greens were rolling true. Almost all the greens have ground under repair like sand, borderline unplayable. For the green frees of 70 bucks GTFO. Tee boxes were long and barely gave any height to a tall tee. The only thing that was kept in good shape here was the fescue. Stay away.

Course opened yesterday. We played today. 1st off and our POP was right on 3 H. Took our time enjoying a beautiful morning and a green/lush golf course. And the mountains around the valley were emerald green as well. Excellent conditions. Played Valley/Mountain and every tee box, fairway, green was great. Rough was about 1" and because the ball sunk down, very difficult to advance. While we experienced some wet fairways (so very little roll out - but great lies), we played behind the crews mowing the greens/changing the pins and that was very nice. Traps had all been cleaned and looked great (sorry I missed them LOL). The OB areas are dense and overgrown, so any ball into there forget about it. Customer service was great at all levels. Recommended.

I played here on Friday, 3/6/20, Valley and Desert nines. I checked in at about 2:40 p.m. for the $35 at 3:00 rate. I was told it was wide open, but that wasn't the case; pace was not bad, but I did skip three holes on the Valley nine to avoid some slower groups as I was a single. I figured I could skip around, but there were groups scattered all about. For the rate, I was just there to practice and check things out. I'd like to give Oscar, at the counter, a shout out. He's been with the old Robinson Ranch and continuing with SCCC and has always provided great customer service. Greens: The looked like they needed mowing, but rolled medium fast. Slower putts at the hole sometimes would take the grain and run off line. Mostly it was decent. Lots of ball marks to be fixed as the greens seemed on the soft side. Tees: I played the whites on the Valley and Blues on the Desert nines. I had come up on a single player at Hole 11 on the Desert and we played together behind another two. We eventually joined them on Hole 13 and finished as a foursome. All the tee boxes I played had been aerified recently and pushing in a tee was a matter of finding a spot between the holes. Fairways: Oh, so shaggy looking; however, they were nice to hit from with lots of turf under your ball. They also ran well, so I guess it wasn't as shaggy as it looked. They did look green, but not a very dark green; more like a thin overseed of winter rye. Many fairways were punched with small hole aerification. Rough: Cut almost as low as the fairways, allowing errant shots to run into the wilderness or hazards. My ball did sit up nicely, though. Like the fairways, it had been overseeded this past winter and the rye grass was fairly sticky at times. Bunkers: I was in four bunkers. Two of them were fairway bunkers. In the past they did not all new sand to the fairway bunkers, but now there was at least a thin layer of sand. I was in one greenside bunker on the Desert nine. There was a decent amount of sand and it was nice to hit from. There were unraked footprints in all of those bunkers. I raked those out as well as my own. I like the course is watering more now. They overseeded and it appears that SCCC is trying to get the course back on track. That's a good thing as the golf options around Santa Clarita are scarce. I will be back. I can recommend this course.

Played today on a cold AM. Great easy 3 H round. First off and was grateful when the sun came over the hills. Played Valley/Desert as Mountain had frost delay (no kidding). Great friendly check in by staff. Found the course to be in excellent condition. Tee boxes all had good coverage and no issues. Fairways were green and lush with only a few bare spots on some, just due to needing more sunlight. Large Oak trees cover some of these areas and warmer weather will bring more grass to these areas, no doubt. Very little rough but what was there was playable. There are enough desert areas and OB areas to provide enough problem issues, as is. Had great lies and roll out all round. Traps (in one) were a little hard and could use a good turning of the sand. Greens were not mowed on Valley when I started but they still putted great and had good speed. Desert greens were mowed and they had plenty of speed. All greens were lush/green and devoid of divots. $55 senior rate was very reasonable IMO given the condition of the course and staff treatment. This is one course I wish was a little closer, as it would get a lot more playing time from me. I really enjoy the differences in the 3 9's on this course.

Played Valley/Desert, rode the blues in 3 hours using Forelinx. I was impressed with Forelinx and recommend Forelinx as a side note. Customer services was fantastic. Mark Kagaoan, the Pro is fantastic, best I’ve experienced. The course itself is in good shape. I played valley 9 first. Tee boxes were average, cut, but some uneven areas. Fairways were above average with some brown areas. Traps were average, in need of more sand. Greens were above average, rolling medium fast. Sand Canyon doesn’t get a lot of play so ball marks weren’t an issue. Desert 9 was in better shape, tee boxes level, fairways lush, greens and traps same as valley. I like the layout here, but if you aren’t accurate off of the tee go to big 5 and get cheap balls. It was windy this afternoon so conditions were tough. They are planning a resort on the grounds. I don’t believe this is a resort course. I recommend if you can get in on a twilight rate. In my opinion it’s not worth the $70 rack rate during the week.

This was Cheeseburger's "return to Southern California" for the first time in many moons. As has been noted before, this course was known as Robinson Ranch the last time I played it.

A friend of mine made the starting time for our foursome ... no problem two-week in advance for 7:57 a.m. on a Saturday. I must say that for whatever reason, we were charged $53.00 for 18 holes, including golf cart. I don't know if this is the regular rack-rate, butI felt that it was most reasonable. Almost Salt Lake City prices!

We played the Mountain and the Desert nines. Plenty of variety. For my game, every tee shot made me think. From tee to green, the course condition was surprisingly outstanding, based on what I have heard or read here in the recent past.

The tee boxes were level and not too carved up. The fairway grass was evenly trimmed and very lush, with very few areas under repair or dirt/thin. The rough was very lush and punitive. About 2-2.5" average. Made me want to stay in the short grass to be sure!

The greens were the best part! They seemed to hold all shots well, and were rolling very true both uphill and downhill. The best part was the consistency. No variation between greens or between nines.

There was a very large shotgun start tournament happening in the middle of our round. We hardly notice that they were there. Kudos to the staff for making this happen.

Pace of play was fine at 4.5 hours. We rarely saw the group in front of us and felt no pressure from the group behind us.

Based on what I have heard, it seems that Sand Canyon Country Club has tackled the problem they were having with the water. Cheeseburger says go and play this course with confidence! I thoroughly enjoyed my morning there.

Played here yesterday in a scramble tournament. Played the Valley and Desert nines (formally the Robinson Ranch Valley Course). Afterward, a buddy and I went out and golfed the Mountain nine, then back to the Valley nine for another round. Greens: still healing from aeration. Some occasional slight bumpiness and a light top dressing of sand on most of the greens. They were firm and it was not too easy to hold a shot. The speed was medium fast, probably around a 10 plus. Fairways: mostly pretty good lies all day. They were actively mowing some of the fairways at 9:00 to 10:00 in the morning, right in front of our tournament. It looked like they may have skipped a day because I could see the mower cutting a good half inch of grass, leaving some fairways with small clumps of cut grass. Rough: It's cut low; I suppose by design. Personally, I wish they would grow some deeper rough around the fairways here. There is very little grass to hold your ball in play outside the fairways. Balls: I lost a few, found a few. Bunkers: A thin layer of decent sand over some hard pan. It's a little better around the greens. Tee boxes: We played the white tees. They were mostly level, but the big issue is they needed to be mowed! A couple were okay, but most were very deep. If you were hitting an iron, you had to leave it up a little to have the ball clear the grass. Overall impression: The course still needs some TLC. Also, IMO, some wider fairways and real rough. It's a tough track for most golfers. If you are accurate with your shots, it's not all that bad. Once the greens heal in completely, it should be very nice. A better mowing schedule would be nice. Long grass on the tees and fairways is not really what you expect when you're at a higher end facility. It was weird to me as I have not seen this at most courses, especially ones that charge $70 and up (prime time). Just want to add a side note: Maybe it was our particular event, maybe somebody was tipping the bartenders well, but I noticed some really big pours behind the bar. Nice! Also, a couple of us went out after 4:00 p.m. We were charged only $27 to play until dark! Good deal!

Rode Desert/Mountain at 8:45, POP 3 1/2 hours as a foursome. Tees and fairways have not been mowed due to the rains and they are in need of a trim. Greens were smooth, the ones that had been cut were good, others that had not were rather slow. Traps were wet with standing water, but to be expected with the rains. We had the course to ourselves so a lot can be overlooked when this happens, never waited, never rushed. Customer service here is always fantastic. They are beginning the build for the resort soon and I’m sure it will improve more. I’d like to see some group golfer/Groupon/GolfNow/ tee off specials at this course since I’m so close. I definitely recommend if you can get a foursome as there is a discount. I believe it’s $55 during the week with a foursome and I recommend it at that price.
