Played 3/12 Sunday. The course opened 3/1 and is NOT ready for play, not even close. I got $65 12pm tee time on Golfnow. I was expecting the fairways and rough to be re-sodded and i had to move my ball a little bit from where the seams are but that was not the case. I had to look for grass to hit from. The layout is the same. Tee boxes are flat with fluffy grass and mostly green. Only the fairways have grass and it's horrible, about 2 to 3 inches long. It looks just like the rough. All 18 holes where the rough is supposed to be, is dirt. If you hit through the fairways, there is nothing to stop your balls from going into the water hazards and native areas. There are a lot of areas where the pipes are dug up and being replaces or fixed. The greens are dry with some divot damage but rolls ok, 5.5/10. Bunkers are ok too, good amount of sand in it. At this rate of recovery, it looks like another 6 months, at least, before its playable.

Played the Valley course on Sunday afternoon, 7/17/16. with a very nice twosome. I have been aware of the water availability problem here and the poor playing conditions. I played here about three weeks ago, and though not in great shape it was very playable. However, in my opinion, it's becoming more unplayable, and this may be the last time I play this course. The tee boxes, greens, and greenside bunkers are in good shape. But that is it. This course has always been a real challenge due to narrow fairways and trouble everywhere. However, with the rock hard fairways and many areas of dirt in the fairway, not to mention zero rough, keeping your ball in play is even more difficult. I hit numerous good shots that ended up in very bad places or lost just because of the conditions. I shared my concerns with the guy in the pro shop. He agreed with me. He told me there is a plan to install the plumbing necessary to obtain and distribute reclaimed water. But that won't be until 2018. I don't see RR lasting until 2018. What a shame.

Worst conditions I have ever played on a golf course in my life! Tee boxes were OK, fairways/rough were mostly hardpacked dead weeds etc. Cost me $65 to play and I wouldn't play it again if they paid me. Trust me on this one, this course gets their water from the city and at this time they are not watering the fairways/rough at all. Not only is CA in a drought but this is course is in a shade free habitat. From a 1-10 its a 1. Not worth 10 bucks honestly. I am not picky when it comes to playing conditions but it was beyond horrible. I could go on and on about it but I suggest you take my word for it. Stay away from here until they can clean it up and get the grass green again. Good luck yall!

Played 6/14/16 after finding a great online rate. Before booking, I obviously checked this sites previous review, which didn't sound great but definitely worth giving this place a shot. First off, I've always enjoyed driving through the gates of RR. It felt like I was entering someplace really special. But all I saw was browned out/dead fairways...wth?? Turns out I was overlooking the Mountain Course which turns out to be CLOSED (not yet indicated on this site). Staff and clubhouse continue to be first-rate, and teed off on time. It was nice too see some green color that marked the fairway and greens, but my goodness, what happened to this place??? I always thought of RR as a premium track, but it's tragic to see what has become of this course. Tee boxes were level and fine but my first tee shot was flushed, straight down the fairway...and kangaroos off and through into the hazard. Not a good sign. The fairways turned out to be thin green tufts of grass atop asphalt. My ball striking was above average today and I had very few clean shots to the greens. Just about every fairway shot was extremely thin and challenging. My partner brought along the divot mix from the carts to fill in our approaches and I we just laughed at the idea futility of the idea. The greens are the one saving grace. As stated in the previous review, they remain very firm and medium to fast in speed and rolled very true...but no divot tools required. This is a fun/challenging layout but they must be under some very strict watering conditions but have made care of the greens their priority. This used to be a fav track but was fiscally restricting, but I wouldn't play here again without the deep discounted rate. My partner said he's never coming back and several folks from other groups we spoke to stated similar comments. I still recommend RR for now because it's still playable/fun despite the current conditions. But I'm weary of what may become of RR this summer if they don't find a way to properly water and treat her. I didn't see a cart girl all round, so definitely BYO(?).

Beautiful clubhouse and the customer service from everyone I have encountered on every single visit here has been excellent. No beverage cart out today.

Most tees are decent with most divots already filled in. A few tees are poor.

The fairways have greened up and while still thin, the poa annua parts are beginning to fill in and actually have a little cushion. While still below average, they are definitely better than they were 2-3 months ago. Hopefully the rains???

The rough is thin and hardpan. The main thing penal about the "rough" here is that balls will roll right through it into red hazards. Hardpan, thin with occasional clumps of grass. The rough around the greens is lusher, mowed down and usually good to chip out of.

The fairway bunkers are hard packed and good to play from except for the rocks mixed in. The green side bunkers are nicely maintained with high quality sand.

The greens putted medium speed bordering on fast and were smooth. Few ball marks because they are so firm. Approach shots were releasing, irons rarely stopped beside their ball dent.

This course would be challenging to walk, fairly hilly. Several holes have severe elevation changes. Tough layout because almost every shot has red hazard penalty stroke areas both left and right of your landing zone. Recommended only if you can get a deal, definitely not worth close to rack rate until the conditions improve substantially.

Played the Blues (6469/72.4/139) using Forelinx as a single in 3H 15M, teeing off @ 7 am. The weather was almost completely calm and sunny. Chilly when I started but had warmed up to around 70 by the time I finished. The tees are more thin than lush with most divots already filled in. I was told yesterday that the fairways are currently CPO because they were over seeded? When I think of over seeding, I think of different grass over dormant grass. Maybe this is nitpicking, but it appears to me like they just replanted some grass in what was previously the barest areas? The fairways have greened up but are still thin and still below average at this point. Until they grow out and mature, the clumps of grass that are meant to expand are actually difficult to play on, because the ball usually settles in the hard pan area low spot in between the clumps that are perhaps 3" apart. Hopefully with continued warm weather and some rain, they get their fairways back. They ARE beginning to look better even if they do not yet play better. The rough around the fairways has also shown some recent improvement but is also still poor. It's penal in the regard that it will not stop balls from rolling into hazards. Hardpan to thin & clumpy. The rough around the greens is much lusher, mowed down and usually good to chip out of. The fairway bunkers are hard packed and good to play except for an abundance of rocks. In the high 40's when we started but had warmed up to around 70 by the time we finished. The tees are decent. More thin than lush with most divots already filled in. The fairways are currently CPO because they over seeded! So perhaps better things are coming? They have greened up and are more playable than they were but are still thin and still below average at this point. Played the Blues (6469/72.4/139) using Forelinx in 3H as a single midday after playing through a couple of groups. The weather was fairly calm, partly cloudy and in the mid 60's. The tees are Okay. Reasonably level with most divots already filled in, more thin than lush. The fairways have greened up a little up after the recent rains, but are still hardpan to thin. They are maybe a little better than they were 1-2 months ago, but still well below average. The rough around the fairways ranges from bare spots to thin and is also well below average. The rough around the greens is mowed down and winter thin. The fairway bunkers are hard packed and decent to play out of. The green side bunkers are well maintained with high quality sand but have inconsistent depths. The greens were fairly smooth and putted medium fast speed with few ball marks. Firm but held approach shots well. RR has a beautiful clubhouse and the customer service from everyone I have encountered on every single visit here has been great. I am surprised that there is no GPS on the carts here, because the course is not that well marked for yardages and what markings they have are often hard to find on the mostly hardpan fairways. This course would be challenging to walk, fairly hilly. Several holes have severe elevation changes. Tough course because almost every shot has red hazard penalty stroke areas both left and right of your landing zone. Great layout in poor condition about sums up this review. Recommended = Not not until they get some grass on the fairways & rough.
