Played today, June 1, 2006. Who cares if it took us 5 and a half hours to play 18. It was 78 degrees and a cool ocean breeze complimented our round. Course is in pretty good shape. Can't beat the twilight rate of $17 to walk.

Tee boxes were a 6 (I think they tee off people every two minutes for the revenue), fairways were a 7 (decent), and greens were a 6 (pretty slow, but they held shots ok).

Played with two pretty good players which help up my game (a bit).

Gonna start playing the coastal courses more as the weather gets a little hot Inland.

Before moving to Corona, I played Costa Mesa CC from 1996-2003. I DO NOT agree that this course is the best value in the area. I'd rather say "cheap, fun Course" or "great greens for little green." For those of us who lived in HB, NB, CM, FV, or Westminster, this course was just plain cheap.

When my friends and I wanted to play an inexpensive course with decent greens-forget Mile Square or Meadowlark-we went to Costa Mesa CC.

Who cares if our rounds took forever, we were talking ish most of the time. Especially because some in our foursome (all friends) were from the Nut Factory next door and actually got a day pass to play a round that day.

Bball--how do you qualify Costa Mesa as the best value in SoCal? Perhaps it is one of the cheapest regulation courses in SoCal, but that doesn't make it the best value. For the money, San Juan Hills is much nicer. For the skill factor, Meadowlark smokes Costa Misery. The only thing Costa Fortune has going for it is the greens. As for me being in the rough, I'd rather play from the rough there, as the fairways are brown and thin. The nice, thick rough allows me to shoot low-80s...not a bad day for a hacker. Thanks for the personal attack, though. That's cool of you.

And for LongBall...get a clue! This course is FAR from the best in SoCal, or even the best value. And it is the course management's fault for the slow play...7 minutes is not enough spacing.

Golfers in southern California have a jewel in the Costa Mesa golf corses. I recently vacationed there and was amazed at the condition and affordability of the course I played. I called within the 1 week for a tee time and got the time I wanted. I expected to be playing on a goat farm for the price , but was stupified. I have played thousands of rounds on public courses, averaging over 120 rounds a year, and I have never seen a public course of this caliber for the money. This is by far the best kept course that I have ever played. The greenskeeper is to be commended for his excellent work and the staff for their pleasant demeanor. It is definitely on my stop the next time I trael to southern Cal.

The course is in great shape. Pace was good. Service was good. I'll be back.
