Played here a couple of times this week. Another Club Corp owned course and strangely going thru same maintenance issues that Coto went thru a few years ago (I joke, it's not strange, it's to be expected if you've played Club Corp courses before). First off, due to rains last week, the course was quite muddy since it doesn't drain very well. Being so flat doesn't help. Rare to play a course that doesn't have any houses on it. However, the 405 freeway noise and Naval air station next door creates a constant buzz you hear all day long. The front nine has a lot of holes that look the same and is kind of boring. It's been twenty five or so years since I last played here and that is when they moved the first hole about 40 yards right of where the driving range is now, and eliminated holes 2-3 so they could build a shopping center on that land. Course was also built up a few feet because it used to flood all time. The back nine is much more interesting, especially the last two holes which could be problematic playing into the prevailing wind. Easy to walk. Greens are very large and undulating and quite firm even after all the recent rain. Had decent speed to them but footprints were rampant and ball marks were everywhere. Surrounds were quite good but anything just off them was very hit or miss Bermuda rough. Fairways were not overseeded (a common ClubCorp technique to save money) so I'd expect brown or very little grass until about June. Bunkers were in very good shape with ample sand but that should be expected after a bunker renovation a few years ago. Tee boxes were level and it looks like they are experimenting with different types of grasses to see what works best. Lots of lakes but most fairways are wider than you think. A solid yet unspectacular golf course where you will probably only remember a few tee shots and the 17th and 18th holes. Winter conditions pull the enjoyment level down a few points. Membership is $70k + $1800/mo dues. Taking advantage of higher prices at Huntington Club and Virginia. Membership probably still paying for the spectacular clubhouse that was built in 2021.

Played in a member-guest event last week with my boss. There have been a lot of changes at the club due to the maintenance staff's lack of talent and their loss of the greens over the winter. Playing yesterday, I am happy to report that the course is in much better shape overall compared to the fall. Fairways were lush and mostly green; there were a few brown spots here and there. Rough was the same and around 2-3" thick. Greens were a little firm but held most shots and rolled at a medium pace. Sand traps looked good but I was not in any. Tee boxes need to be moved on the par 3's but had full coverage.

Overall its a fun track with a good mix of holes. I recommend playing if you get a chance.

Just aerated a few weeks ago so greens are in recovery mode. Sanded and top dressed. Should be good to go in a week or so.

Some of the old greens were diseased and new super had them redone. Repairs look good and should have pleasant greens in weeks to come.

Overall course conditions have been good. Weather being cooperative - the course is looking really good. Fairways having good coverage and lush. Tee boxes were also redone so some of the uneven tee boxes improved quite a lot.

Pace was under 4 hours with beverage cart service going around a few times.

Looking for more fun times as the weather warms up.

Out Yesterday for a Member Guest Smoker with the boss and some coworkers. Conditions have only gotten better in the last month since I last played here. A few of the fairways on the front nine were perfect carpet and just amazing to play from. Back nine is a lit more open to the sun but still very nice. Rough was a bit longer and penal, I had a few shots that affected by this. Greens were much faster but firm. All shots needed to be played 5 yards short of the flag as the approaches would bounce on the first hit. You did not want to have a down or side hill lie yesterday as it was very easy to blow your putt past the hole. Sand traps have mostly all been redone in the last month and the green side sand traps are almost too soft! Fun to play from but man you needed to blast your shots out to get them on the green. Overall still a fun course and recommend if you can get on.

Played the front nine yesterday with my Boss in a US Open 2 man Scramble. Cloudy and breezy conditions which is not out of the normal as the course is only a mile or two from the ocean. Course conditions were pretty good overall for the course. Tee boxes needed to be moved on the par 3's but it was late in the day so that may have been the issue. Fairways were lush and mostly green but did have some brown tint to the visuals. They were great to play from however just a great cushion and good lies. Rough was cut down to about 1-2 inches but was still sticky to play from. Sand traps looked good but being in a scramble we did not play from the sand. Greens were a tad firm and medium speed and perfectly smooth. I do wish they were a tad bit faster but they were still great to play from.

The course is undergoing renovations - bunkers all being redone. Temporary greens on a few holes. I would not recommend playing at this time.

Played in the 3 day member guest over the weekend. It had been a while since I played here last and the conditions have improved a bit in the last year. Fairways had great coverage and were mostly green with a very small handful of brown spots but provided a good cushion to hit from. Rough was cut rather short and was a mixed bag of grasses in locations but wasn't overly penal. Sand traps were just ok but could use a little more sand for the greenside traps. Greens were the highlight running at a 12 speed and just soft enough to receive most well hit shots but didn't allow for a ton of spin or check. The greens here are the toughest part of the course and you really need to be below the hole in order to score. The only bad part of the course was the tee boxes, for the tournament they had everyone play the golds but they didnt move the boxes after each day. The par threes were torn up. Also 2 or three of the par 4's had unlevel boxes but not too bad where it really affected your tee shot its just something they need to change next time. Golf carts are basic with a usb plug and a cooler but no GPS as most members walk the course during regular rounds.

The tournament staff handled the 120 golfers very efficiently and I must say the Executive Chef for the club made some tasty meals especially the brisket sandwiches at the turn on day 2. Fun event to play in and the post round festivities were a cherry on top. I would recommend playing here given the opportunity.

They are punching the greens starting today.

Review from weekend play. Course in good condition. Greens hard as rock. Medium fast. Fairways decent coverage. Lots of unfilled divot. Rough is mowed down. Tee areas level with plenty of coverage.

The place was packed and pace of play was super slow. Waited on every shot.

Other than that, course is always fun to play. Different shots required on each hole.
Driving range was mats - although they rotate grass to mats at times.
Nice practice area with chipping area and bunker practice as well a nice putting area.

Highly recommend to play. Not recommended to join.

Second time playing this course (first through ClubCorp and now through my club). The course is a hidden gem located next to I405 in Seal Beach. Afternoon breeze comes into play, but didn't really come into play until the 18th hole. The layout is challenging while very entertaining with doglegs in both direction along with water hazards and forced carries. The approach area is firm so a good shot without spin may end up in the back of the green. Overall a very enjoyable course.
