Got my first hole-in-one on #13. It took 45 years of playing this game to finely get one. Rancho San Joaquin just completed refurbishing their driving range and training facility and it’s great. They also updated the restaurant and patio area. The course is in good shape, greens are recovering well from aeration a few weeks ago. We play here every Thursday and it’s usually a 4 hour 30 minute game.

Teed off at 9:30, finished a little over 5 hours later. Course is in OK shape with lots of wet areas on and off fairways. Fairways are rock hard and thin in some places. Greens are recovering from aeration but are still pretty bumpy. Crews were sanding back half of greens today and almost impossible to judge speed if you end up back there. Lots of work in progress to improve course, hope they get it all done by summer.

Off in 1st group Sat- walked front in 1.5- ran into back 9ers on 15- 2-hrs.

Course was green- few bare spots if any. Fairways way overwatered. Tight lies, but grass. No rough.

Nice layout- few big trees but lot o variety. Couple tough up hill p3's from black. Not a lot of trouble otherwise.

Greens were tops- hard, very fast, true rolling and offer the challenge to course. very few flat greens- lots of mounding. Must be below hole on most. Bunkers fine.

Much better than expected round-course is not difficult getting to the greens. 17 & 18 short P4 & P5 to finish with easy pars. Toughest is actual 1 handicap first P5 where you need to fit 2nd shot between 2 lakes and gaggle of coots, 3rd over water to uphill green.

$46 to walk - local- now in Sat rotation. Only knock is early groups catching back side.

Played here last week, I got a good deal online to play. They're are a lot of juniors that play this course. Guys at the pro shop were great. The fairways were a little muddy on some holes with bare spots but they're trying to fix that problem because they're cart path only but that doesn't seem to stop some people because I saw a few with carts on the fairway. The greens were good, rolled faster that I was expecting. Tee boxes do need a little work other than that I liked this course I would defiantly come back.

The driving range is closed for remodeling for at least 3 more weeks. I wish Greenskeeper or the RSJ GC website had posted this info so I could have stopped elsewhere to warm-up before my round. The... Continue »

The driving range is closed for remodeling for at least 3 more weeks. I wish Greenskeeper or the RSJ GC website had posted this info so I could have stopped elsewhere to warm-up before my round. The course was in better condition. Some of the fairways had deeper, greener grass than I've seen in the past. The traps were hardpan, so hit down at steeper angle. Greens were fairly quick and not too marked up. Pin placement in the front on 15 makes it very tricky. Very tough to keep first putt from rolling off green. POP kinda slow, but still finished in about 4:40 hours. Carts allowed on 1, 3 & 18 fariways in attempt to speed up play.

Came out on Sunday morning as a single to walk back 9 which was completely empty except for another single just teeing off. It was a cold morning (41 deg) so I wanted to stretch and roll some putts to warm up.

HOWEVER the marshall insisted that a tee off immediately and pair up with the other single. Mind you there was nobody else there to play the back 9. I reiterated to him that I wanted to stretch first and that there's nobody waiting and if we get backed up ahead i will join the other single. The marshall was stubborn and told me i had to tee off immediately and wouldn't take no for an answer. Whatever happen to customer service? I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable.

Their customer service reflect their course conditions.... Crappy. Fairways were patchy dead yellow grass interspersed with mud and dirt and cart track marks. Greens were bumpy. Tee boxes are uneven. There's apparently no pride in trying to maintain this course and combined with inconsiderate marshalls, I don't plan to come back until they clean up their act and encourage others to not go either. Don't waste your time or money!

The fairways are very beat up and muddy. Lots of yellow patches and dead grass. Greens and tee boxes were in good condition but the fairways were bad. The ice and frost that SoCal has had in early Jan is most likely why the fairways are dead.

Played 12/26/12 @ 852. It had just finished raining & the course was cart path only. A lot of standing water the front nine, but clear in the back. Tee boxes were a little beat up, but fine for the most part. Fairways were great, but soggy. Rough non existant, just a couple of inches longer than the fairway. Greens were rolling good with no water to speak of, they drained great. Played in 4.5 hrs, which is good for RSJ. I always liked this course, just a little pricey for what you get, but being in Irvine, they can get away with it.

Played Saturday at 12:45pm. First off, I should know better than to play this late on the weekend. the greens were beyond bumpy and putting was just a crap shoot all day.
The good: Fairways were in nice condition, rough was well kept.
The Bad: pace of play was 5:30 and they have no marshall to keep things going. Tee boxes were mostly uneven and bare, bunkers were thin and the greens were sad.
I personally will NOT play this course again during the weekend..I don't care what the price is. There is a reason why this course is $50-$100 less than every other course in the OC within 10 sq miles. Buyer beware
