Noticed that Tijeras Creek will ne doing heavy maintenance starting on the 24th, so decided I'd better get out there before then, I anticipated it was going to be really busy, with sunrise now being so late, but it wasn't too bad. No problem getting out.

Course is not in great shape , but certainly decent. Leef2020's review was spot on, but I thought the greens rolled better than I had expected. Fairways were for the most part green with plenty of grass, with some brown/thin areas. A few of the tee boxes were a bit chewed up, but for the most part, they were fine.

Staff is always accommodating and I rarely have any issues with maintenance affecting the early play. Because it is the closest course to home, it's nice to not fight traffic to/from the course, which is another plus. That coupled with having the Creek Card makes it almost affordable.

Played TC today after a 6-week hiatus due to the course conditions and travel. Greens were pretty darn good today, except for the unrepaired divots from players ahead and even in my own group (dang it, I was busy cleaning up after everyone!). Aside from the greens, the fairways and rough are pretty much as I last saw the course in early August.

That said, I love this track and enjoyed the round today ($40 twilight w/creek card) in spite of playing with three pretty slow players (it wasn't me, I swear!), but we still completed the round in 4 hours, 15 minutes. They will be aerating on October 24/25, and then offering discounted rates for 3 weeks or so. I guess the course should be back in good form come early December and beyond. Cart girl came by a few times and I only lost one ball which had been a trooper for 3 successive rounds, so a good day.

Played Saturday (9/24) afternoon. pace of play was ok for a twilight round here, about 4:45. I generally expect 5 hours here, so anything less is a pleasant surprise. After reading previous GK reviews... Continue »

Played Saturday (9/24) afternoon. pace of play was ok for a twilight round here, about 4:45. I generally expect 5 hours here, so anything less is a pleasant surprise. After reading previous GK reviews, I had a good idea what to expect. I generally agree with most of the reviews, the course does not have quite the same amount of turf coverage or is quite as green as it normally is. With that, I still think it is a level above most of the OC courses still. They have laid down sod in a few areas, played as gur. Still, I thought the fairways had pretty good coverage, some was browned out, but plenty of grass. The rough is where you see the biggest effect from restricted watering. Going down most of the fairways, you would find spotty grass coverage or bare areas, areas out of play were more bare. Down by the greens you had pretty good coverage. The sand traps were the same as the last time I remember. They may have added sand to a few of them as I saw more white sand than in the Spring. Tee boxes were in decent shape, fairly level, with some unlevel areas. The par 3 tee boxes had a lot of divots, but that is nothing new. The greens played medium quick, were very receptive, and had a lot of ball marks. The cart girl was around multiple times and I saw the marshall a few times as well. I think for a twilight time, the course is worth it, for anything else you might feel a little cheated as it's not quite the same conditions you're used to for this course.

The fairways need to be punched badly. Seed & water needed.

Played Sunday as a 3-some @ 208, finished @ 550 (3 hr 50 min round, wow!) Brown is the new green. If you like a firm and fast track TCGC is the place for you. Tees are level and well maintained, fairways are hard, firm, with a lot of bare spots, re-sodded areas and punched areas (local rule, you get a free drop from any GUR). Greens were okay, rolled pretty true, tons of ball marks, medium fast speed (a couple greens had small ant holes, with little mounds of sand and tiny red ants) never seen that before. Course is pretty beat up, but with a Creek Card $40 is just about the max I would pay. Pray for rain because the city has put the freeze on water usage.

Played at T-Creek this morning more out of convenience than desire, $65 (cough-cough) w/cart and PoP around 4 hours. No change to the fairways, still very thin and patchy areas that produce terrible lies. They're hoping things clear up and fill out come October but I'm pessimistic on that happening. Greens a bit slow and soft on the front side but rolling much better on the back. Bunkers, surprisingly, had decent sand and were better than I've ever seen them. I can't recommend this course at this time due to the current fairway conditions.

Decided to take advantage of the free twilight round. I guess because of the heat, the course was not to crowded, so we were permitted to actually tee off early. Pace was not too bad, a little over 4 hours. Staff was great, throughout, from the pro shop to the starter, to the player assistant.

I knew what to expect condition wise as I've played here recently. There are many bare areas, mostly in the rough. The areas around the greens weren't too bad, but I was more disappointed in the greens. They were really "chewed up" They were very soft, to the point where even I backed up a couple shots, which I rarely ever do. But they were bumpy and slow. I knew they were not watering the course, but expected the greens to be better.

I have always liked this course! Sad to see what the lack of water has done to this wonderful track. The "bones" of the course are still there, but there isn't much meat left on them.

Was stuck down in the OC on Monday so I used my Creek Card free twilight round. I've read (and wrote) recent reviews so I knew that the course was in poor shape and asked the staff for the reason. Well water was their main source and was not enough to keep the Bermuda green after the winter Rye faded in Spring, so they had to 'buy' water which was beyond their budget, hence the browning out you see in the fairways. Anyway, if you play here be warned. Bunkers are still horrible and the greenskeepers must have had the day off as the tee boxes had long grass as well as some fairway areas. You have about a 1 in 4 chance of a crappy lie, even if you hit one down the middle. Greens were slow-ish and more pitch marks than I could repair ... not rolling true. I have to agree with leef2020, I'll look for other OC courses to play for awhile. Not recommended at this time.

I play this course a lot, but have been away for two weeks playing some nice courses back east. Sadly, as noted by the other recent reviews here, the course has taken a dramatic downward turn since I played just two weeks ago. Biggest issue are the thin lies - bare soil/brown areas in the rough and some fairways, leaving terrible lies. Second issue for me was the inconsistent sand in the traps. Range from hardpan, mud/wet clay/dirt to wet calcium carbonate sand to dry, fluffy sand. Sometimes, it would vary depending on where your ball was in the same trap (sometimes it takes two swings to get out!!) I cannot understand why they would have issues with dry fairways, yet their traps were very wet and muddy at times. Explain that strategy, please. Lastly, the greens were also chewed up a bit from long-term unrepaired ball divots and were bumpy, which is not the norm here. They send a survey out after you play the round and let them know of my experience. Hopefully, they will work on the issues. I generally play here 1x/week, but will hold off for a while. Definitely not worth full-price right now, and even with the Creek Card senior (55) discount, it is time to play a little more elsewhere. BTW, the Creek Card is a good deal, it pays for itself actually, and would recommend it to anyone when the course is in better shape. Cart girl was around 4 times, ice water every few holes on the tees, necessary on a hot day. Clubhouse/19th hole and staff are all great. Will try again in a few weeks.
