Played a Sunday afternoon round at T-Creek, $60 Creek Card discount ... and it should have been a lot less. Look, I am a fan of this place: nice folk, great for practice or hanging out, nice layout, yada-yada-yada ... but the Creek is now into the doldrums of summer and it shows ... conditions have drastically changed for the worse. The color green is officially gone, except some patches that are few and far between ... and you're lucky if your ball stops on one. Tan & Brown has taken over with a vengeance. Nothing marked GUR as many areas should be. Hard pan areas are not fun to play from ... I'm having a difficult time writing this, sad to say. Rocks in bunkers, they're horrible. And very tightly packed so be prepared for the 'bounce' ... I'd be embarrassed if I was the greens-keeper here. The only positive is they are watering the putting greens which were in very good shape by T-Creek standards, so I'll give them that. Unfortunately, the rest of the course is dry and not worth the green fee. PoP was 4.5 with some waiting on the front and clear sailing on the back. Marshall out doing his thing, thanks. Sorry, not recommended at this time.

Played Monday (played the Blue Tee markers) 6/6/16 @12:08 as a foursome (Creek Card $40), POP 4:45 min. Monday's at Tijeras has a lot of activity going on, meaning maintenance crews are all the place. Let me break it down from tee boxes to greens. 1. Tee boxes were level and had nice coverage 2. Fairways probably weren't mowed in 2-3 days, they were long, lush and had zero roll, cart wheel marks all over the place, hard to tell were the fairway and rough began. 3. Bunkers (I was in 5 today) sand was soft, not hard packed at all. 4. Greens had recently been punched with tiny holes, they were soft, receptive and slower than usual. I probably repaired 3-4 old divots per hole x 18=72 (come on people repair your divots) Cups seemed pretty beat up, I wondered if they still were in the same location as Sunday??? The greens still need a few weeks to recover before they can get smooth and regain there speed. Other than that, Tijeras should be back by then.

TeaGal and I met up Sunday with abbacat and her friend Jim (fun, nice guy) who we're trying to convince to come to an outing and join up with the greatest golfing community in the world!!! First time here. Nice looking place and very good service throughout. Now.. Being that regular rate is $130 and there aren't overly accessible discounts anywhere I could really find, A couple of my comments are based off that rate and what is expected for a course of that cost. Had a "breakfast sandwich" before we started. I do not recommend this. Put a Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich in your microwave before you head out the door. It will taste better than this. Also the chili dog at the turn was OK... ish but the chili dog that I had at Santa Anita last week absolutely destroyed it. Tees were mostly level but a little long and had a ton of divots on them and were chewed up like a driving range but hasn't moved its location all week. Even the par fives had a bunch of divots where you wanted to put your ball. Some tee boxes were fine but in general not great. Fairways were nice, just some browning in a few areas not really a big deal to me. Rough was good as well about 2 inches but the type of grass that really catches your club and twists it when you get into it so pretty difficult to hit out of. Not a complaint, just an observation. Greens are healing from being needle punched and were a little bumpy and medium/slow but not bad. A few divots here and there but nothing to be overly picky about. Sand was horrific. Actually I would just call it waste bunkers all of the course. There were rocks up to 2 inches in size in them along with tons of pebbles and various sizes of rock. They were hard and not even worth hitting out of because you would ruin your wedge. A few to have decent sand only to have the club strike absolute hardness a quarter of an inch below. Bunkers in this condition borderline unacceptable for any type of course let alone of course with this type of rate and reputation. Carts were nice with the soft brake that is definitely a pleasure by the end of the round to not have to be jamming the parking brake down every single time you stop. However, there is no GPS, water cooler or ball/club cleaner on them so they are basic. Some people may not care about those amenities, but if I'm paying fees in the range that they are charging I would think that that stuff would be on the cart. Range balls are not included in fees. All in all, I did find this a nice place. Tees could be nicer, sand is terrible and the food at the turn could be better. That's all. To me, there should be more stuff on the cart. But that's just me. All in all it's not terrible and I don't mean to sound like I'm slamming this place. I would say play here and try it. Their club card looked like a good deal. It's worth the $75 card member rate. I just wouldn't pay $90-130 to play here though.

I played today with TeaGal, acesfull, and my friend Jim.

When I arrived I was warmly greeted at the bag drop and as always, the guys in the pro shop are friendly and efficient. The place was very busy with people enjoying Sunday brunch and the range was full. I was a bit concerned at first that things would be running behind but we teed off exactly on time.

Although overall the course was in very good shape, it was nowhere near as nice as last time I played there about six weeks ago. The fairways and rough had a lot more brown areas than usual. Hole #3 was cart-path-only as the fairway was really chewed up. I’ve really never seen that at Tijeras. The greens were almost completely healed from the recent punching. There were only a few tiny bumps, very few ball marks and putts rolled medium fast. Surprisingly, and pleasantly, there were no birds (or their messes) on #’s 4 and 5.

The bunkers, though, were terrible. There was more dirt than sand, and that was hard and/or muddy, and there were many little stones. I don’t understand why they can’t/don’t clean them up.

POP was great. We never waited and there was no one close behind. We took our time and finished in just under 4.5 hrs. Thanks, John and Kristie, for making the trek down here. It was fun!!

Please see my review from 5/22 for more detail on this course. Played in the afternoon today (June 2, 2016) and found out that they micro-punched the greens yesterday morning. Affected the putting a bit, but not terribly. A little bit bumpy, and actually faster than they were a week or so ago. Some sand on the greens. Wasn't at all a hinderance to putting the ball in the hole most times, but did require a more firm putt to 'shake off' any abnormalities. A few putts bounced around a bit in my group. Shot one of my better rounds there, so cannot complain. Otherwise, my latest review stands. Good amount of roll due to the heat today, about 95 degrees. Probably needs another 5-7 days for full healing of the greens.

Got a twilight rate (after 3:00pm) of $40 here on Saturday, teeing off at 3:20pm. Played the blues, which were back pretty far due to the club championship taking place earlier in the day. Course was in good condition, greens were medium-fast, not bad at all. Was a bit surprised at the older ball scars on a number of greens. They were punched a few months ago and are completely healed, but it seems some cuts/discoloration run too deep. Greens were pretty smooth, but a bit bumpy due to all the feet that had walked across the greens all day. Am I the only one who wishes courses would bring back metal spikes? All these people that have large rubber 'spikes' on the bottom of their shoes leave 'waffle marks' on the greens...(sigh).

Got paired up with three other 'singles', with one of the guys being nice enough to enjoy playing with again. The other two, not so much. My cart mate was drinking beer all day, a constant 'belcher', and left me twice without a club for my next shot to go on to find his wayward ball on the front 9. Staff was great and gave me my own cart for the back nine so I didn't have to deal up-close and personal with the idiot. Pace of play was slow on the front - over 2 1/2 hours, but we somehow just got the full 18 in just at sunset, and finished in 2 minutes under 4 1/2 hours. The service/staff at this place is top-notch in the pro shop, starter area and bar/restaurant.

Back to the Tijeras as I had time constraints. Matt in the pro shop was able to get me out early as a single, so place not an issue. The course is even more lush than a month ago. So much so, some of the fairways on the front nine were pretty thick did not allow for much roll. (Which I need!) Greens were just fine, but they seemed to putt slower than they appeared?? I was in a couple bunkers and they had too many pebbles/rocks for my liking. Plus they were only partially raked. (probably due to my getting off so early?)

Enjoy the course a lot, particularly the back side. It really looked great, being so green and all. It was a visual treat to look back on the holes from the greens. Lots of deer out this morning, which only made it that much better.

Played T-Creek on Sat. 4/30 in the afternoon, PoP not too bad for a weekend, around 4.5 hrs. Agree with my idol Weber in his last review from two weeks ago: the course is in great Spring condition, tee to green. Bunkers even a little better than normal, still firm sand and some gnarly rocks to negotiate, but playable. Never had a bad lie but did find one fairway divot on #15 that led to a bogey on a birdie hole ... rub of the green. Putting surface cut as low as I've seen here in a while, real quick and mostly-true (a few minor uneven areas seem to pop up occasionally) made for some challenging putts. Everything green, especially the rough which was not cut and played some havoc on the front, no so bad on the back. Real fun time, great 19th hole. Recommended w/Creek Card. I tried to rate the course but the website would not allow it. I'd give it a 7.0 because I like fast greens and full fairways.

Did not feel like driving far today, so decided to revisit the Creek. Always enjoy my rounds here. The course is in better than average condition right now, fairways are lush and green, greens roll decently but not as fast as they appear. (Maybe they could lower the mower blades a bit?) Only in one bunker which was Ok.

Staff is generally very accommodating. Using the creek card and being a senior makes this course somewhat affordable. Plus save a few $$ on gas. Hard to say anything negative about Tijeras Creek, particularly the back side.
