Absent from the course since October, took advantage of a free twilite round on Friday, 3/23 at 2:16pm, via points earned on my Creek Card over the past year. Joined by 3 other singles, they played the blues for the most part, and I played the whites. POP was slow, finishing just at 7:00pm, POP 4hrs 44mins...w/2.5hrs on the front.

One of the guys in the group has played the course throughout the winter. Asking him about playing conditions, etc., on the 10th tee, he said the course was easily in the best condition he's seen it during that time. Overall, I was pleased with the conditions considering the entire property was punched less than 4 weeks ago and some of the recent reviews.

Tee boxes were very green, nicely cut, with good solid footing. Long grass around the tees and rough generally, seemed to be cut on Friday, or the day before. Some grounds crew were actively cutting the rough during the round on various holes.

Fairways were really good, mostly lush and green, and provided decent roll and good lies. In spots, you could see the healing from the punching last month still filling in, so there is more improvement possible. A family of deer made their showing on the 13th hole, as usual.

Was in one greenside bunker on #15, and it was damp and firm, with no top layer to get underneath the ball with the club.

Greens need more / different care. However, there were no signs of 'punching' and the grass density looked very strong. They were soft and held shots well. It did not seem like they cut the greens on Friday. Cups were very mangled and rounded from play. Putting speed was mostly slow/medium-slow. To say that the greens were 'bumpy' would not be sufficient. The length of grass was very inconsistent throughout, with various patches of green outpacing the length of other bits, resulting in a highly irregular putting surface on every green. Hopefully, the TCGK has a plan. It seems that as the soil firms up, they can lower the mower cut length and roll the greens in the near future. I know they have struggled with 'thin' grass on the greens previously, so it seems that there is now a strong root base to work from (fingers crossed).

Cart girl was by 4 times, the marshals were by at least 3 times. Plenty of cool water in the jugs, helpful on a mostly warm and sunny afternoon.

Though I've made the decision to not renew my Creek Card for 2018, I do look forward to playing Tijeras Creek again soon, but at $10 more per round. Will reconsider the TC CC in 2019. Love the layout, its fun and a good challenge, and the staff always treat golfers with great courtesy.

I've heard Tijeras Creek is a really nice golf course which I hadn't played prior to yesterday 03/15/18 and for me it was a big disappointment. First off part of the problem is that it rained the night before so the course decided it was "cart path only". We had booked the tee time online through GolfNow so it was prepaid and the refund policy is only good if it's actually raining or the course is closed for whatever reason. I've got a couple physical limitations that makes it difficult to play with "cart path only", my knees are shot, one has no cartilage and the other is almost the same, not to mention my back which I had surgery on years ago. I can't walk a course but these limitations are not an issue when playing and having a cart to drive to my ball. The course looked nice from a distance, very green and lush with no bare spots to be seen. We could see they had a mower out cutting one of the fairways and the practice putting green was very nice. I would have thought the carts would have GPS but they don't and that's not an important factor just a nice convenience. The layout of the course is good, it's not a flat course and it got water on a number of holes which can be challenging. The tee boxes were good, fairly flat and not beat up. The fairways definitely could use some cutting and the rough was a bit on the deep side. The sand traps seemed to have a lot of rocks but mostly playable. The greens were awful, very very slow and not smooth... very lumpy and bumpy. There was no challenge when putting, it was more luck than skill so not a fair test. A friend who had played there before raved about how nice the greens were, very fast and smooth; makes me wonder if we were talking about the same course. To be somewhat fair maybe the course was in such poor playing conditions because of the wet weather we've had recently, I can understand that it's hard to do course maintenance when it's wet or raining. I would have enjoyed the course more if it wasn't "cart path only" because the pain in my knees definitely made the round almost unbearable. Along with "cart path only" comes the slow pace of play... like adding insult to injury. Even with all the negative issues I will probably go back there when the weather is nicer and no issues with driving on the fairways or at least the 90 degree rule... hopefully my next outing there will be a good one.

Decided to play Tijeras yesterday 3/12/18 after staying away since the last punching of the greens. The greens have been punched 3 times in the last 4 months and are in the worst condition I have ever seen since the opening 25 years ago. The staff has been open to the subject but do not have any idea what has causes the problem and have addmitted they currently do not have a solution to fix the greens. It a shame because Tijeras is a great layout but in its current playing condition I will stay away for another few months.

Yet another frost delay called at Coto, so made my way over to Tijeras Creek. No frost there ! Thanks to the director of golf, able to get out first and zipped around quickly.

Many of the fairways still had the plugs left, so made for a somewhat muddy walk, and certainly reduced the roll on the tee shots. I expected the greens to be bad due to the recent punching, but they were actually decent.(Except for #1 and #7 which were being done while I played )

Overall the course was in OK condition, much greener than Coto ? Enjoyed the quick early morning round, and appreciated the staff working with me to get out without having a tee time!

Other courses in the area have great greens so no excuses.

The tee boxes aren’t great out here but not awful, never a big deal. The fairways are green, although they always seem a little thin and shaggy to me. Rough is great, always nice to see some dark green lush rough. Bunkers are not good, not well maintained with giant rocks everywhere and little sand. Annnnnnnnnd the greens. HORRENDOUS. What the heck. Worst greens I’ve played in years. 3-4 if the holes had the small tine hole punches. All greens had sand of varying amounts. Everything is bumpy. But a couple of the greens weren’t mowed in days and had massive bare spots all over them. Their greens are never great out here but this was another level. I love the course layout and I hope they figure out what’s going on but definitely not worth paying the money right now

Played Tijeras Creek today. Greens are still bad - very bumpy, lots of sand. It’s been 3 months since these greens were punched. Worst they have ever been. Absolutely inexcusable. Fairways are good. Tee boxes OK. Bunkers are bad as usual. Gotta believe their Creek Card sales will be down this year. Fewer benefits, poor course conditions, and several good Orange County courses in much better shape. Sad to see this happen.

Was able to get and play Tijeras Creek the day after Christmas. My second time out here. I really enjoy the completely difference nines that you get by playing Tijeras Creek. The front nine more subdued winding through homes and the back nine much more demanding with no homes to speak of.

The conditions of the course were very solid. Tee to green the conditions were above average, we teed off in the morning so everything was wet. I found myself in many of the bunkers this day (ball striking was a bit off) and they all played pretty solid. The fairways were very nice, the ball sitting perfectly if you found the fairway. The rough was hit and miss, some areas pretty thick and grabby and others pretty thin. Greens were medium to fast depending on where you were on the green.

At $86, it's more than I would normally pay for a round of golf but it was a great day with some buddies from work at Tijeras Creek.
