Between tee box and greens, this course is under disarray. Have always enjoyed its layout, but now its like playing on the moon, having more exposed bare sandy soil areas than something maybe called grass. They blame the recent reseeding efforts on the freak snow storm at the end of the year for its devastation.
Once you get to the putting surface, you're rewarded with some pretty good conditions. In fact, many of us who ended up just off the green were using our putters since any signs of grass was so short made it quite easy to deal with.
Understand that the management issues have been troubling in the past, but seems to be an effort to get things on track even though the course is closed now on Mondays & Tuesdays.
Clubhouse, food & beverages, along with a nice view of the valley from the back patio still continues!

Not a course that somebody who THINKS they are, or were, and wants to be a PRO should play! This place looks like heck now! The entire course has gone dormant - the only decent area is in the traps or on the greens. The fairways that were filling in back in October are in such poor shape!! The early morning tee time was good for one thing... a quick round!! Hopefully, the new ownership will bring this course back from its deathbed!!

After reading the past few positive reviews of this course I decided to give it a try today. Arrived at the course at 6:45 am for our 7:35 am tee time and we were the only car in the lot. I should have known it was gonna be a long day. Honestly, I don't know what the past reviewers were thinking when they described the fairways as being anything other than TERRIBLE! 25% grass coverage with the rest being bare dirt. Most fairway bunkers are terrible but the greenside ones I was in were ok. Tee boxes and greens were the only green grass on the course. Greens were a touch on the slow side but rolled well. Customer service in the pro shop was great. Apparently the course in under US Govt control and any improvements that were being done have been halted as the course will soon be up for auction. Course conditions led to a a depressing round of golf. Spend your money elsewhere.

Yes it is a little dry but I have a feeling the courses are a little dry out in Scotland so I would think it is how it is suppose to be. Either way its a fun track!

Decided to come back out and see how things are going with some more time to heal. Fairways are starting to look a bit better, but the soil is really causing them issues. Bunkers are looking much better and had a decent sand base going. The greens are still slow compared to what they used to be, but most people would probably be a fan of the speed.

Things are getting better ... provided they get some rain things just might be back to normal in the next 2-3 months.

Back here again - what a difference a week makes! The greens are almost totally back from last round, still a few that are a little bumpy. The fairways have started to fill in more in the past week and the thicken up in the thinner areas. The tee boxes are some of the best I've seen on any course! The crew has really done a great job turning this place around. The course was actually pretty busy this morning - we played the round right at four hours, which is good considering the distance between holes. I would say that the word has gotten out that the Links is returning to what is once was.

I love this course and the challenge it brings. Hard, fast conditions where you have to think about the shots you are going to hit and to maybe play shots not seen on many courses on this side of the Atlantic. That said, the drought has destroyed the course and everything it was. Grass covers maybe 35-40% of the fairways and the rest is a sand base with dirt and very soft. The tee boxes are very lush (need a bit of a cut) and so are the greens. In fact, I have never seen the greens this soft and definitely not this slow ever. I would say they were rolling between 6 and 8 on the stimpmeter at best. I know they punched within the past month or so, but there are still remnants of that process to be seen on all greens leading to slow, bumpy putting.

I hope this winter they get a TON of rain and the grass returns... and when the grass returns so will the challenges that made this course a blast to play. Until then, it is simply a place to go to get away from the 5 hour round found in many other courses across Southern California.

Early am round with the sky divers and planes going up and coming down. The course is improving with recent maintenance. The greens were recently done and seem to be a couple of weeks away from being real good. Fairways are a work in progress - some fairways are in good shape, but most are very bare and sandy. I love this course and hope that the rumored (Goose Creek) to be new owners continue to bring it back into top condition. Everybody that works at the facility is very friendly and honest with the players and they deserve top notch ownership!

First time here today. As soon as I purchased the pre-paid tee time yesterday I instantly had buyer's remorse. Paid $24 per person for me and my son for an 11:03 time. Some reviews here and elsewhere described the conditions as there being no fairway grass whatsoever, but thankfully that wasn't the case, at least not throughout the entire course. In reality, this course is a study in contrasts, conditions-wise. Some spots of fairway are really great. Others are completely bare dirt. Most of the fairways are somewhere in between. The greens are a little shaggy still from aeration and pretty bumpy in spots, but almost totally healed in others. I was only in one bunker but it had a very thin top layer of nice soft sand but was hard packed just underneath the surface. And then the tee boxes – these were some of the nicest, flattest, well-manicured tee boxes I've seen in some time. I found the layout enjoyable and for $24 on a Saturday, it was worth it. (Could have gotten an even better deal if one of my friends, ahem sixpez, had tipped me off earlier to a "Two for $40" promotion they're running this weekend.) The nice guy in the pro shop even gave me a free yardage book when I asked how much it was. POP was right at 4.5 hrs playing as a twosome.
