It made me sad to play here today (8-30-10). This course used to be in fantastic shape, a good challenge, and great place to get away from the crowds. Something has happened to the conditions of the course. It is super patchy grass everywhere on the course. The sand traps need repair and the tee boxes are just as bad as the fairways and rough. I am not sure what happened here, but I hope they turn it around quick. This course was always a gem.

Regarding the burned out look upon entry, I understand that Cross Creek has been hit hard by the regional water cutback an are trying to get by on only 70% of the water that they used to get. They say that they are changing out sprikler heads to better use the water that they do get. (Focusing on fairways and greens and letting go of the roughs and driving range. TGardner says they will also begin a 'reconditioning' program in Oct. so things should look better for the winter. I played the week of Aug 23 and it played much better than it did in July, so the new water plan must be working. Now if they can stop the owner from screwing with the architecture, (filling in bunkers, adding lakes and water wheels, etc) it might get back to the gem it was.

Mostly a good/fun layout. Just a couple of questionable holes. Its just in such bad shape that is not worth playing. Played 45 with the Unlimited Golf for $55 offer, but won't return.

What a dump! This course has fallen farther from the good graces than Tiger. This course used to be the "can't miss" hidden jewel of socal. A wonderfully maintained course that provided an incredible value for the price. Now, it has been relegated to a muni track. The fairways are patchy with bare spots, the rough is uneven and unkept, the bunkers are hard and thin with clumps of grass (weeds) growing around them, the tees are somewhat decent but are still bumpy and bare, the greens are decent but are fuzzy and nowhere near what they used to be. The so called improvements to the course consist of a "ferris wheel" on #8, turning #9 from a challenging par 4 into a ridiculous par 5, and placing a variety of statues throughout the course. A word to the owner, I don't need to see faux deer on a course that has REAL DEER running on it! And what is that thing on #15? It looks like cupid holding a golf bag sporting a chubby under his loin cloth. WTF?? Spend the money on maintenance not statues! I spoke with Nick in the proshop (he was great) and he had a look on his face like he had heard all of this before. He even offered my friend and I complimentary rounds to come back. We politely declined and said we'd return when there was new ownership. Not only can I not recommend this course, I can't even rate it. You have to try and ruin an Arthur Hills golf course, and somebody at Crosscreek has certainly succeeded.

Not sure what tgardner is talking about, but CC is in terrible condition. Played today, 6/22, and this place is still a complete mess. Fairways are whatever you call worse than patchy. Even where they appear to be green, they lack consistent coverage. Tee boxes are unlevel, uncut (blacks), and have large dead patches or dirt patches. Greens are fine, not at all what they were a few years back, but at least acceptable.

Staff is still cool, but that can't make up for the lack of conditioning on the course. Any municipal course in SoCal will be in better condition than CC right now. It's a real shame as this course used to be a gem. Now it's just out of the way and unattended.

Wow! What a difference a couple weeks makes. I played the course in late May and though the greens were quite good, many areas in the fairways where very dry. I was shocked when I saw how green everything was. The fairways have recovered incredibly well and overall found the course to be in good shape. I am glad they got the water situation figured out because it is one of the best layouts in SoCal.

Played CrossCreek last week and could not have been more disappointed. This used to be one of the best courses in the Inland Empire. The fairways are basically hardpan and dirt due to lack of water. I spoke with a couple regulars at the club and they said that the owner was refusing to pay for a meter so they were very limited on water. I can't even imagine what this course will look like in September if it is already this bad now. This used to be one of the best layout around as well. Aparently the owner has taken it upon himself to redisign some of the holes and completely destroyed this Arthur Hills masterpiece. #6 - put a lake left of the fairway? #9 - made it a par 5 (used to be the best hole on the course, now it's just a joke) #11 - didn't realize we were in Arizona. #18 - Are you kidding me? What used to be a destination golf course is now nothing but a burned up dog track. Don't waste your time unless this guy sells the course and some owners that understand golf come out and take over.

Played on a weekday afternoon at a vastly reduced rate. This has always been one of my favorite courses and I wanted to see how it has fared in the light of some recent bad reviews. Sorry to say that many nagging maintenance problems still persist. First I should mention that nearly all of the holes had ‘cart path only’ signs on them. This was neither mentioned in the clubhouse nor enforced on the course. Second, the greens still had sand on them. They were puttable, however, rolling medium to medium slow. On a couple of good notes: the teeboxes were in great shape as was the sand (as far as I could tell).

At least half of the fairways had damage/bare spots. This ranged from spotty damage to a couple of instances of large patches being bare or in the process of re-sodded. For instance, on #2 about 100 yards out there is a large area of damage near the sand trap. That being said, the fairways were, otherwise, in good condition. Although I didn’t encounter hardpan, they were firm, but reasonably lush and I never had a bad lie (avoiding the damaged areas).

The greens had a very similar story. There was damage on about 1/2 of them always around the perimeter. The damage varied from a spot or two to several areas of damage. Most notably on the 18th green there is very serious damage on the perimeter of most of the green especially in the back where my approach shot ended up. I wrote a review a year ago highlighting a lot of these same problems. I know nothing about grounds keeping, and I wonder how hard it is to fix bare spots on greens and fairways. Is it a question of money or fighting a battle (losing in this case) against nature?

The facility was pretty empty, which was kind of sad for a course of this caliber. It bills itself as “pristine golf”, but I would characterize it as a great tract with a lot of ugly little scars that refuse to heal. I no longer consider Cross Creek a destination course although it still has inherently more than enough interest and challenge for any level of golfer and an ‘away from it all’ feel in its location and atmosphere. If I were a local I would probably play it a lot, but I would characterize my enthusiasm for making the trip down from LA to play this course on anything other than a very occasional basis as subdued.

What a disappointment. I played here a while back and remembered it being a nice course. According to a member (who said he won't be renewing) and a course employee, the new management has determined that it's not necessary to water the fairways anymore. Hardpan everywhere after all the rain we've had this year. Target golf is not much fun when you hit the target and the ball bounds forward another 40 yards into the brush. Drives in the fairway that stay on the course are rewarded with hardpan lies. I can't imagine what this place will look like in July.
