Overall the Butterfield course is in pretty good condition. Still winter conditions and it gets a lot of use. But for the price the course is worth playing.

Decided to play atthe last minute, got right out at noon and walked around the course as a twosome in 2 hours 45 min. (Only had to play through two kids in a cart) Nothing special, but fun quick solid golf. Greens are the best part of the course. If you overlook the scruffy areas, it makes for a pleasant day of quick cheap golf!

The course was in fine shape and not crowded. The greens were all smooth and putted well. They were a little firm, but very playable. The sand was a little deceiving, dry and fluffy on top and wet about 3/4 of an inch down. All in all the condition of the course made for a very enjoyable round.

Just like the reviewers before me, the course is in very nice shape, particularly when you consider $20 to play here (Senior walking) Greens and bunkers above average, fairways generally good and the rough - OK. There are lots of scruffy areas to be sure, but not where you're supposed to hit your ball. Since I don't use a cart, don't care about the cart paths! Nice to have an inexpensive place to play that's in decent shape and also a decent layout. Wish there were some of these places in south Orange County!!

If ya read all the below comments re El Prado you might think they work there, THEY DONT!!!. Greens, a 9,, fairways a 8, tee boxes a 8,, bunkers a 9. rough a 4 but thats OK,,dont go there,,, What a great day for us.Now if you want upscale, dont go, if you want smooth cart paths, dont go,, if you want good carts,, ohhh dont go,, but if you want a fun, straightaway, hit it as far as you can track with good greens for not a lot of $$ {$32} senior weekday ya gotta go. We had a ball. Made another tee time for next week. We dont plan to play here every week,, but it is maybe 50% in better condition than Los Serranos down the street and cheaper.

They all roll true - it's just your bad read. Really. Check out the $$$ courses these days and tell me if it was worth it. Conditions are generally dismal this time of the year. On the contrary El Prado does a fairly good job in maintaining course condition throughout winter.

Went down to El Prado for the first time today. The course is in very good shape, but parts of it are VERY WET and soggy. I had one drive on #3 that carried about 250 yard but traveled a total of 250.5 yards because it landed in a mud patch in the middle of the fairway.

The layout was nothing to write home about. There are some strategically placed water hazards which make a few holes interesting, but most are pretty straightforward without a lot of character (although it might be that I'm spoiled from playing Marshall Canyon so much).

Much of the rough is yellow right now but that owes more to playing on December 11th than bad mainenance. The greens are very soft and hold approach shots well. My shots never back up on greens but they were backing up today. The greens are also pretty flat and slow today. Very easy to read.

Side note: on the holes with water there were a lot of birds hanging out, so there was tons of excrement on the fairways, and on a few greens, which would make it very hard to get a clean line to the hole.

Overall it was a fun round, but not a ton of challenge or strategy required.
