Was invited to play at Redlands Country Club on 2/27. My expectations (unfounded) that it would be a dog track. I couldn't have been more wrong! The course was absolutely beautiful and nearly perfect in every way. I played Virginia Country Club in Long Beach a few years back and I would liken it to that but in better shape.

A very challenging course which will require draws and fades off the tee box, a good mixture of short and long holes (some of the short holes are no walk in the park). The layout was so impressive.

I read in another review that this is a 2nd shot course and I agree 100%. Driving the ball on the course wasn't an issue mostly, it was the 2nd shot had to be in the right place or you have no chance of 2 putting.

I always struggle out of the sand in public courses but not here, it was so nice to hit out of freshly raked bunkers with soft sand.

Can't wait to get another invite out there and play!!!

I was fortunate enough to be invited to play 1/5/20. I used to live in Redlands but at the time didn't know any members of RCC and never played. Looking at some info on the club & course I noticed that it isn't very long compared to most courses I usually play at just under 6300 yards from the tips. But RCC is still a challenge.
RCC has a grass range with practice balls available like most private clubs. It isn't a large range but plenty long enough for a proper warmup. (just use the yellow balls in the bags when hitting your DRIVER)
I haven't stood on a practice green in almost a year, since all practice greens in LA are STILL senselessly closed. I enjoyed the chance to be able to hone my putter before teeing off because the most important club to score at RCC is your putter. The fairways are more generous than they appear from the tee boxes. The fairways had very good coverage with decent rollout. The rough was very green and lush and about 2-3" which was penal but fair enough to allow you to gouge a shot towards the greens. Now the greens...the greens are NOT as friendly. Most of the greens are crowned and/or elevated from the fairways, heavily guarded by bunkers and all were very quick with slopes that required all your attention. They are in great shape than ran extremely true with few ball marks. I quickly discovered that RCC is a second shot course. Short & roomy enough that you can attack with driver but you MUST pick the correct number into the greens because a missed calculation in position of your approach in relation to the pin, despite a quality strike puts a 3 putt (or more) in play.
Despite learning all of this the hard way, I found RCC to be a good challenge and very fair to my best shots. The bunkers were also some of the best I've played this year, with the roughest parts on the course being some of the tee boxes were chewed up compared to the whole course but to me that's nit picking.
My group and I all had a great time playing and hanging out at the club. The members I came across were friendly and polite. Also the food and service were excellent. I feel that local knowledge is a huge factor in scoring around here...and look forward to my next opportunity at RCC.

Played out at Redlands country club today in a tournament. Course was in nice shape, first time out here. A short course on the scorecard, but a lot of elevation change throughout the course and only a par 70 with two par fives. Somewhat treelined but also not too tight off the tee for the most part. Greens are the highlight of the course, although they were fairly soft today, looks like they're getting a lot of water on them right now because of the heat. Rolling fairly quick but nothing crazy, need to be careful on some downhillers. Fairways had some good spots but plenty of bare areas out there and pretty thin lies, not perfect by any means right now, again is been hot lately. The rough is pretty thick around the greens, pretty good for the most part throughout the course. Bunkers are all in good shape with consistent sand, although its not the visually appealing white sand that some other courses have, its very playable.

As somebody who hits it pretty long off the tee, I still found challenge in many areas of the course due to the green slopes and difficulty scrambling around the greens. Theres plenty of opportunities out here to hit driver still and take advantage of length, although I do miss the extra par 5s of a par 72. I would definitely return if the opportunity arose.

Played 10/15 at 11:00 a.m with old friend Bud, who is hopefully taking up golf. From the "Good morning, Mr. Opdyke --" Bud, not me -- to the disappointing double at the end life was great. They had just reopened after overseeding the entire course. Tees, fairways, rough and collars were covered in lush rye. The boxes were level with very few divots. The oak lined fairways were carpet and the rough was 1-3 inches of new rye, just enough to give you an excuse. Greens looked like they hadn't fully recovered, thank God, to the level of the rest of the course. They were smooth and rolling about 9-10, but you could tell in another week or so they'd be billiard tables if the super so chose. Sand traps were fairly plentiful, but not the deep ball swallowing caverns at most modern courses. This was a very fun course to play. Most holes are not long, with a few thumpers, but trees line the fairways, and mostly oak trees -- you can just about give up on praying your ball is going through that darn oak. Dog-legs, turning left and right, were the rule more than the exception. I only recall two semi-flat holes, most are heading slightly up or down with ravines and sidehills a factor. Greens were on the smaller side with bunkers defining your approach. No. 11 is the only hole I felt at all pinched in by the housing and community that has grown in around the course. I think this club was founded in 1896, so that's a testament to whoever did the planning. Friendly bartender with a varied tap list was a fitting end.

Teed off in a Senior outing at 11 AM. WOW is all I can say. Probably the best conditioned course I've played in the past 6 months except for Rams Hill. Greens: small, firm, smooth and medium to fast. Fairways: not a bad lie all day! Rough: 2-3" high, not very penal. Traps: plenty of sand. POP: under 4 hours. Nice grass range. Great short game areas. Old school course, lots of elevation changes, doglegs and lots of trees. Great customer service. A MUST play if you can get an invite!
