Played Bonita on 12-27-17, beautiful day golfing. I have not played Bonita since early March 2017. I was very happy to see that the course was in good condition for the winter. The playing rate of $33 to walk was reasonable. Bunkers and greens were in excellent shape, however some of the tee boxes and fairways need some attention. Looking forward to playing there again soon.

tee boxs large and nice grass/bunkers nice sand quality (really no fairway bunkers to speak of)fairways had good coverage for 90 to 95% , really no rough to speak of/greens were very good and large sized but if you want to score you must be below the pin...overall I was very happy with the course and will return again,very nice resturant and bar..double sided driving range and a large putting green/the only negitive thing I could say is that there are alot of side to side fairways so keep your head on a swivel!!

Let me start off by saying I have been a big fan of this course. I am a member of the email club receiving a few benefits and emails and updates.
I got an update that the course was in great condition, come out, greens are great, etc etc.
$20 Noon Twilite Email Club Rate and a 208pm Tee Time Single Player with no one in front of back of me had me there.
I was sadly disappointed once I got on the course.
The tee boxes were fine, the fairways were brown all over the place, patchy.
Rough on the course is no problem, the rough around the greens is a couple of inches long presenting a little difficulty with chip shots.
Bunkers were thin with sand and hard dirt below.
Last but not least the highlight of this course for me, the greens were terrible, bumpy, not healed from Aeration.
I would say 90 percent with that 10 percent affecting putts for sure.
Plus lots of the greens, I would say more than 6, are burnt around the edges.
Bare, dirt, no other way to explain it. Very sad.
This course does not believe in water fountains or cart service however they do have the watering hole snack shop after hole 7 that you can catch close to hole 9 and 13 as well.
POP was incredible with me playing solo in 3 hours walking.

I really do like this course and wish they would take better care of it. I stopped playing it because after a month the damage to a few of the greens still hadn't been repaired and the fairways were thin to the dirt with lots of GUR.
Imagine my surprise when I find that the damage to the greens that were damaged months ago is still there as is the thin fairways. Makes me sad since from afar the course looks great.
Tee boxes are a bit beat up but playable, fairways thin as I said, rough is rough 2-3 inches deep.
Greens are bumpy as heck for the most part, no one fixes divots here it seems so the greens aren't healing well. I did find some smooth spots.
Sand traps are horrible mostly dirt.
This course has so much potential to be good once again.
It is well worth the $20 dollar walking twilite rate for the exercise if nothing else.

Played a noontime round on Saturday. I haven't played Bonita since 2004, and I believe they renovated the course sometime around 2012. This was my first time experiencing the re-sequenced hole numbers. The look and feel of the course has been improved. Old trees that had becoming big and billowy have been cut back, widening the feel of the holes. And the greens are a vast improvement, rolling at a medium-fast pace with plenty of slope on almost every putt. The bunkers are also vastly improved, with nice fluffy sand inside. I used to think of Bonita as a good course for beginners to step up from Par 3 or Executive courses, which it still is and may even be better for that purpose now. But the holes used to feel so tight against one another that you would constantly have to have your head on a swivel from cries of "Fore!" The course feels a little more open, and much safer now. There are still holes that cluster against each other, and the map on the back of the scorecard was invaluable for knowing where to go when holes criss-crossed. Our threesome was behind a tournament, so it was a slow go with a wait on pretty much every shot. But it was a nice cool day, and we enjoyed ourselves, finishing in 5 hours 5 minutes or so. Service at the pro shop and the snack shop was very friendly. It's tough to beat $40 for walking on a weekend (and I had a much easier time walking here than at Balboa Park a couple of weeks ago). I'm sure I'll be back. p.s. The scorecard for this course on Greenskeeper.org needs to be updated to reflect the new sequence of holes.

Played 8/30. Got the twilight rate of $40 w/ a cart which I thought was pretty reasonable since I started just after 12. The course was in pretty good condition. The Tee boxes were mostly level. The fairways were decent enough to have a clean lie. The rough seemed ok. Patchy grass with brown spots but with the drought, that is to be expected. Greens had a bit of damage to them but for the most part were still pretty good and rolled true.

Had a good time, mainly due to my playing companions, not really the course conditions. Course was in playable shape. Teeboxes were fine, level and always able to find some nice grass to tee it up. Fairways on the front were pretty bad. Hit great drives down the middle and end up in some crappy lie, just a shame, some areas should've been marked GUR, but they weren't, sucks to hit a great drive and get penalized. Fairways on the back were a little better, except 18 when once again, Long4par smashes a drive right down the middle only to be rewarded with a muddy lie, just plain stupid! should've been marked GUR, cmon man!

Found one bunker and found it twice, real heavy wet sand and couldn't get it out on my first attempt. Greens were hit and miss, seems like they just didn't recover from aeration, they had some really bad spots on at least half the greens, they were fast and putted decent, but just didn't look that well. They were fairly receptive to approach shots, which was nice. Rough was not very penal, only found it once and it was manageable.

All in all, it was in decent shape and had a great time. $40 to walk on a Sunday is acceptable. played with two great guys, congrats to Long4par for taking our match, very exciting, read all about it in the Forum section. Hope Troy joins Gker, he seemed very interested and is a nice guy, getting ready to retire from the Navy, thanks for your service, Troy, total stud! Hats off to the guys in the proshop for getting us out to play our extra hole to decide the match, thanks a bunch!
