I have to agree with the previous post about the Vineyard. Tee'd off at 630 a.m. Finished about 10:30 a.m but the course has gone downhill I used to book online tee times cause it was cheap and course was in great shape. Now there are patches on the greens. Bunkers are really wet. The rough looked like Torrey Pines rough during the Buick. Seems like the crew hasn't been cutting them for a while. The worst are the gnats that fly in you eyes/ears. They have a really big gnat problems. Every hole there's gnats. I would rather play Eagle Crest/Woods Walley than The Vineyard. If booking online decide on Eastlake is better.

I have played a lot of golf courses in North County in the four years i have lived here. I have to say quite honestly that this round of golf at the vineyards was by far the most miserable round of golf I have experienced in california. due to the heat the course seemed fairly empty. While on the first tee, I observed 6 large black blurs on the green. I saw two maintenance carts drive by, and do nothing so I thought nothing of it. Upon arriving at the green, I noticed that the black spots were crows eating the surface. THere were literally 6 different areas on the green that looked as if they'd just been punched, with no consistancy by the d%mn birds. Futrhermore, the vinyards have become quite sufficient at the breeding of gnats. not 10 to 20 buzzing in your ear as you hit. 50 or so around your head, and another 200 or more so around the rest of you. For a tee time that starts in the middle of the heat you would think the course would not be watering for fear of cooking the green grass as we have all seen so many places do so many times before. However here, upon questioning the puddles of gnat larva in the fairways and rough it was stated that the water was there to keep the course green. Personally i would much rather see a few brownspots on the fairway than see any of my open orfices invaded by bugs. The front of house staff was exceptionally friendly, courteous, and polite. The practice facilities are awesome as well. Quite honestly I've always enjoyed playing this course before, but until the vineyards looks into some type of extermination, i won't be back.

Between the bugs and the heat I can not say which was worse. Actually the the water everywhere was the worst part of the round. I guess the abundance of water is to breed the gnats so we can get west nile virus. Seriously it was like the Women's US Open out there except it hasn't rained in a couple of months so they are just watering the course and turning it into a swamp. Stay away until they get this fixed!!!!!

I was very disappointed with the course. I heard good things about it before going there, but didn't see anything good with the course. Tee boxes were in awful condition and many were being reseeded. The greens were extremely bumpy, long, and slow. There were a lot of dry spots on the fairways and in the rough. Overall, the course was in terrible condition and not worth playing. Eagle Crest is a much better course for your money out in Escondido.

Played The Vineyard on Saturday, 4-8-06. The course was in great shape, even though half of each green had been punched. The problems arose in the management and control of the course. We had a 1:45pm tee time but didn't get out until 2:30. Carts were poorly charged and were dirty, too. Sound like whining? It's not. For a course this nice to start the day so poorly smacks of poor planning. Besides, there didn't seem to be any real adults to control things. As we got backed up hole after hole after hole, all the marshall could do was say SORRY and try to get the one group ahead to move faster. The problem was the fivesomes and the obviously intoxicated. Hey, I'm all for fun golf and all, but that doesn't include yelling, chasing wildlife with your putter, leaving beer cans all over, and urinating off of the tee boxes. Yeah, some fun. The course itself was in good shape and played true. Sure had a hard time getting a good rythym going, though, and will have to think long and hard about when I'll play here again in the future. Maybe early mornings are the answer.

A real joy to play. Challenging but playable holes. No mickey-mouse forced carries. Areas around greens are tough - you need to hit the greens and stick or you will have difficult chips and pitches. A number of 'ambassadors' to keep things moving but not one refreshment cart.

The course was in very good shape. Not too challenging, until you get to the greens. Greens, though large, were quick but true. I thought as whole that the course was nice and a good value.

Played here 1/30 Monday and fairways was excellent but rough was thin with alot of dead grass. Greens were fast in the front but slowed down a bit in the back 9. The course was challenging, alittle on the shorter side as far as yardage, and percision is key on this course. Worth the green fees and customer service was excellent.

Played on 1/22/06 with a special rate - tee time @ 12:53 PM and we finally got off @ 1:30 PM with a cart that had just come in - needed two replacements before we finished only 15 holes because of rea... Continue »
