Once again, Stew and Nick beat me to the punch with the review and rating. The customer service at this facility is really great. I spoke to the starter in the pro shop regarding a dispute over being sent out early a few weeks ago and he made good on a verbal agreement made over the phone. Big thanks to River Ridge! Saved me five bucks! The Vineyard course is, in my opinion, a little easier and the greens are somewhat slower. Still, compared to any LA City or County municipal course, RR is a real gem. Maybe it's because you are in Ventura County. You simply cannot beat the price for the weather, conditions, pace of play, and customer service!

And onto the Vineyard course in the afternoon. It was sure nice of Nickesquire to walk all 36 holes with us when he was not a player ... I mean, how many people do you know that would do that? He gave me some insight to a course I'd not played before which was extremely helpful. The Vineyard course is also a semi-hilly layout, probably not as nicely conditioned as the Lakes but I did like the Poa greens. A few fairways and surrounding area are a bit thin but, again, like the Lakes course, I always had good lies as long as I stayed near the fairway. Vineyard plays just a bit shorter then the Lakes at 6761, the par 4's are a little shorter and the par 3's are in the 170-190 range ... and there are no black tees, but the wind came up and that makes some shots, like the 18th island green, a toughie. Enjoyed my day here in Ventura county, don't get out here often due to the 405 crawl, but it was well worth it today. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Add: just noticed the 6.0 rating after posting my review. It should have been higher, like 7.0

After an A.M. 18 on the Lakes course and lunch, it was an afternoon 18 on the Vineyard. I was still on the sidelines with a stiff neck, but provided gallery and caddy support walking along with RGM2525, Kviser, Sngernz & another Nick in 4 hours with all players walking the blues (72.0/121/6761). The weather was partly cloudy, typical afternoon breezy conditions, typically a 1-2 club wind. The greens looked great on the Vineyard 18. They were posted as a 10.0 on the stimp and rolled decently, a little bumpy @ times. Really lush, firm with few ball marks. The fairways & rough are decent, not great looking because they are mostly dormant/brown but they play better than they look. Expect some tight/thin lies on the fairways, what I would consider normal winter conditions. The tees were decently maintained, the tee markers looked like they had been regularly rotated. I fixed alot of divots on many tees. The sand traps were just OK, I raked several for the guys and there were unraked spots from previous players in almost every one. The burger @ lunch was good and an excellent value @ $6 including fries @ a golf course restaurant. The waitress takes your name with your order and greets you by name like you are an old friend throughout your visit. I appreciated being able to walk the course as a spectator after having paid a green fee earlier and not being able to actually play because of a bad neck. To me this was just another example of a staff that is excellent with a "can do" attitude. We had made a 1:14 tee time this am before teeing off on the Lakes to play a 2nd 18. Right after we had lunch, they has us on the 1st tee right before our scheduled tee time on the Vineyard course.

Had an absolutely awesome day playing the Vineyard course at River Ridge with JohnnyGK, Nicksquire, and GDR23. The place was nearly empty, I'm thinking the gusty winds really must have scared the general population away. It really did feel like we had the place to ourselves.

Conditions were excellent all the way around, but the greens really were the best part. They putted very true, had hardly any pitch marks, and were pretty quick. They were quite firm as well, you had to strike it just about perfect for the ball to hold, and all of the shots around the green had a fair bit more release than you might expect. Fairways and rough were good, as were the tee boxes and the bunkers that I found. The layout is pretty neat, a bit of a hike from 13 to 14, but other than that its really a nice walk. With plenty of challenge and really good conditions, I would definitely play here quite a bit if I lived in the area.

Enjoyed a Sat. mid morning round with GDR23, Jamesph99 & JohnnyGk in what turned out to be normal, slightly windy Oxnard beach conditions. It was slightly over a 4 1/2 hour round with all 4 players walking the blues (72.0/121/6761). However, we set the pace as leisurely, it wasn't until the last hole that we had another group within a hole of us the entire round! The greens were the best part of the course. They rolled great, medium fast and consistent from green to green. Really lush, firm with few ball marks. The fairways & rough are decent, not great looking because they are mostly dormant/brown but they play better than they look. Expect some tight/thin lies on the fairways, what I would consider normal winter conditions. The tees were decently maintained, the tee markers looked like they had been regularly rotated. The sand traps were freshly raked with good sand and in very good shape. The staff here is almost always running things on time and has us on the 1st tee right @ our 1035am tee time. First time I have played here in almost 3 years, I need to work this course back into my regular rotation.

Played a very enjoyable windy and cool round on the Vineyard course this morning 12/27/2014 from the tips(blue tees) with JohnnyGK, Nickesquire and Jamesph99. It was fun seeing some of the downwind drives today in our group. We walked the course in 4 hours 30 minutes taking our time. We had the course to ourselves with nobody behind or in front of us the whole day---I think the weather scared some people off. Vineyard is in good shape right now considering we are in winter golf conditions. The speed and firmness of the greens were amazing. I had two-three chips today greenside that I could not even hold on the greens. They putted true and amazing. They were in great shape, fast and firm. Kudos to the staff. The Kikuyu fairways were semi-lush and in pretty good shape for this time of year. Not much roll and you need to compress your irons cleanly. The tees were mostly level and also in good shape. I was in one bunker in the back of number 13 green that had just enough sand texture and was raked and in good shape. Staff here are also friendly and well River Ridge just does it right with two challenging fun courses to play. I prefer the Lakes but if you have not tried either course you need to play them both. They have some great prices here and some super sunset and twilight prices during the summer. Recommended.

Review is a little late. Played my free bday round here super early in the morning 2nd out as a single. Finished in just over 3 hours. Last review was spot on. Vineyard is in rough shape right now. They just sanded the greens. They rolled slow with sand--not punched but for sure in maintenance shape. The fairways are rough and have many dry spots and thin spots. The tees were in decent shape. Was in greenside bunker left on #15 and the sand was decent. I have never played this course first out. Big difference without any wind in your face on #1, #2 and most notably #18. The staff is very friendly here. The Lakes course is also receiving some maintenance at this time. I would tell all players to probably go with the Lakes course from a layout perspective. I enjoyed my round here though at Vineyard even with the maintenance on the greens and dry conditions in the fairways...who would not enjoy free golf.

Played as a twosome on Saturday 8/30. Tee time was 8:50am. This is the first time playing the Vineyard course - I usually play the Lakes. I was disappointed at the layout and conditions. The first 13 holes are very ordinary. But, even worse, the conditions were below average. May bare areas and poor coverage in the fairways. We could see the Lakes course from the Vineyard on several holes, and the Lakes course appears to be in MUCH better condition. The 14th through 18th holes are across the street from the main area in a small enclave. Those holes are much better than the previous 13. From tee to green, they are in good shape. I was in two bunkers. One had nice soft sand, the other was wet and hard packed. I will definitely stick with the Lakes course when I play River Ridge. It is much more enjoyable.

Off after noon with the LA Golf Group event. Three groups playing 27 holes, including the front nine on the Lakes course. Both courses were in good shape. We played from the white tees and they seemed a little beat up. Sometimes it was difficult for me find a comfortable, level spot on the tee box and there seemed to be a lot of divots due to a lot of play ahead of us. Great lies in both the fairways and rough, although some spots along the north side of the course (holes7, 8, 9, 10) had some thin areas in the fairways. The greens rolled medium fast without any discernable bumpiness. Bunkers could use more sand, though the thin layer on top was of good quality. Pace of play was about 4.5 hours for our lead group. I saw no groups in front of us, so it probably was faster.
