Weather: 10 mph wind to start the round-died down some on back nine. 75 degree tee off awesome weather.


Greens: 8/10 Running around an 11 on the stimp, fast and quick with a fairly true roll. Some footmarks and bounce present and they do not roll like glass like its sister course but still very nice maintained greens. Most of the greens here are huge and have some undulations to them and present a nice challenge.

Fairways 7/10 Comparable with its sister course however Vineyard has dormant Kikuyu grass at this time. Don't get as much roll on this course as the lakes course. Pretty decent lies in the fairway here.

Tees 7/10 Some divots on the par 3's. Most all tees level. Saw some sand divot mix provided for players on some of the par 3's which is nice.

Bunkers- Was not in any so I cannot give them a rating. They looked raked and contained beach sand.

Rough 7/10 Not much to speak of on this course. Maybe 1- 2 inches at highest.

Layout and Overall...Its a nice challenge. The staff is always friendly here....I can recommend either River Ridge course at this time.

I enjoy River Ridge Vineyard for the most part. The greens are great and the course is generally in good condition. My beef is the tee boxes which are severely uneven. Number 11 and 13 are two that come to mind. I played recently and noticed ground crew trying to level #2. After looking a week later, they did a crappy job leveling the "blue" tee box. It's still uneven. (If you are going to take the time to dig up the grass in hopes of leveling a tee box -- do the job right! Use a level!) The tee boxes are basically the most negative. The staff and marshals were friendly. Greens great! And the challenge was high. Both River Ridge Courses are nice. Just work on the tee boxes for crying out loud. Thanks.

Today was the start of 4 free bday rounds for me. Played Vineyard this morning 9/3/2013 at 10am with my buddy Mack and two of his buddies from the tips. Weather was a bit hot for even Oxnard but basically beautiful golf weather. Don't know what it is about this course but it always kills me! The Lakes course was closed starting today so we decided to play Vineyard. The course was in beautiful shape---expect Kikuyu tees and fairways that are lush and in great shape. The rough is also Kikuyu and in great shape and thick in spots. I would rate all of the aspects of the course a solid 8 to 8.5. The greens here are tricky and they were listed this morning at a 10.5 stimp. They are poa annua surfaces that were rolling pretty well. They held shots with spin. I would rate them an 8. The bunkers that I was in were very nicely raked and had nice soft sand, rated also an 8. Well done Vineyard course you are in good shape!

Pros- Greens are pure right now. Some inconsistent speed but all in all this is the highlight of this course. The greens rolled great and the were not overly pocked up with pitch marks. We made a ton of puts here longer than 10 feet as a group. The rest of the course was pretty standard condition for this place.
Cons- I am not always enamored with this layout. I prefer the other course, the Lakes, to this one any day of the week. That being said, the cons were not high... just some maintence and maybe a bit of wet sand.
Overall- Play here 2 times a year because you know what you are going to get. RGM2525 is a blast to play with so hit him up to play if you are looking for some good chatter. Will be back

Played Vineyard yesterday 7/7/13 for the first time in a few years (I am a big fan of the Victoria Lakes layout) Tee'd off around 12:00. Finished in about 5 hours due to a slow foursome in front of us (course was crowded anyways due to $10 off the rack rate tee times all day).

Tee boxes were decent except for the 2nd tee which was extremely slopey. Fairways were lush, and give a fair amount of roll. Rough is also lush, and is interesting to play out of the Kikuyu grass. Bunkers were nice and fluffy. Greens were the best part of the course. Rolled around 10.5-11 (although the clubhouse said 10.1, I think they sped up over the day) and held iron shots well. A very nice fringe complemented the greens. An overall great experience as always with the River Ridge courses.

Played Saturday 6/22 at 8:34 am. Teed off exactly on time in perfect conditions. We paid the weekend rack rate of $48 + $15 cart fee. While this may be about 30% more than the munis I usually play, the course & facility are 100% better. Service was excellent from the pro shop to the starter to the regular visits by the "rolling refreshment stand". Pace of play was very good, with marshals at the turn who were unafraid to admonish those falling behind. The course was pristine with greens rolling about 10.5. Tee boxes were lush with just a few being slightly tilted. The course is fairly open, but creative. You can score well by staying in the fairway, otherwise the thick rough will slow you way down. The fairway bunkers I strayed into had fine, soft sand. My partner found a deep greenside bunker where, unfortunately, the sand was wet. With the hot summer days coming, I plan on returning to this cool course. Go check it out!

Played a couple of days ago with GK member and buddy Barkydog1 from the blue tees at their sunset rate of $16.00 bucks walking. We finished in 4 hours. With it getting dark at 8:30pm you can tee off late here(4:00pm ish) and still finish. This is one of the better deals around. The conditions were very good. The greens were smooth, fast and listed at an 11.5 on the starter shack. I think they were rolling close to a 10.5 stimp. No ball marks and held irons nicely. They are poa greens. The fairways were lush with not that much roll. Hardly any fairway divots and in good shape. I was in 2 bunkers that seemed firm on the top surface but held enough sand underneath. The tees were lush and level. The rough is between 2-3 inches lining the fairways and is lush and in great shape. I believe they just had the City Championships and this is the time of the year to play this course. They have 3 strong par 4's here and the island finishing hole is a demanding par 3 191 yds into the wind to an island green. I prefer the lakes layout but would for sure recommend this course to anyone especially their twilight and sunset rates. Well done River Ridge!

Great conditions here today. Greens were fast, running about 11'-8" according to the sign at the starters shack. Definitely fast and smooth. The weather was perfect; sunny and warm. The wind today was just a breeze, about 10 m.p.h. Sand was excellent. Some bunkers were a little damp in the early morning, but the sand was well-raked and soft. Even the damp bunkers were easy to get out of. Great conditions from tee to green. Pace of play was about 4:15 for our group (walking), despite falling off the pace of the groups ahead of us. The groups behind were not pushing us, so it felt like we had the course to ourselves. I will be back for early morning golf soon.

Played here on Friday 03/15 with a free tee time from the LA Golf Expo. Got out on time at just before 9am as a twosome walking. Group in front of us was a 4 some. Course was in great shape for being this time of year. Tee boxes: Great condition. Flat, lush, easy to play off of. Fairways: Sadly, I didn't get many chances to hit out of them on the front nine, but from walking I could tell they were a little thin but still VERY playable. Rough: This was more my style here on this day. Rough was lush in most areas, patchy in some areas as you got closer to the tree/bush areas. VERY playable. Greens: Above average condition. Only reason I am not rating them GREAT, is because it seemed like they rolled some of them, but not all. Most of them rolled true and quick but a few (#2, #6, #9, #13 and a couple more) were not riddled with divots but still had some bounce on a well struck putt. Sand: Fluffy and very well groomed. They did a great job here. Pace of play: Average. Despite being a twosome, it still took us about 4:15 to finish. I think the group in front of us was doing some betting as they took a significantly long time on each hole. We were actually sitting down on the grass waiting for them to hit their shots on more than one occasion. Overall it was a perfect day to get out. No wind (which is a standard if you get out too late in the day here) and above average course conditions. Would recommend this course to anyone right now.
