We finally had the time to play here today. While it started out windy, it calmed down considerably as the round went on and we had an enjoyable time. Fairways are dormant to some extent but still provide good lies and bounce. Sand in traps was consistent and playable. While I read the tips and reviews about the greens and was prepared for fast greens, I was not prepared for such large greens. It goes without saying you need to know the greens and pin placements to be able to avoid three putts. I loved this course and its layout and would encourage those of you who have wanted to play here to do so. You will not be disappointed in any manner when it comes to green fees; layout of course; condition and not least the friendly staff. I will be back to play the Vineyards and the Lakes for sure.

I played victoria lakes at River Ridge in September for the first time,This course was very nice ,the green was about 12 to 13 on the meter. I have to put it down as one of my tops, I had lots of fun .I plan to go back and play it again soon, Ive also told my group I play with we have to make a road trip.

Out this morning 9/4/12 for a free Bday round on the Vineyard course. This course is not as lush as the Lakes course. The fairways are in decent shape with areas of green lushness but also many areas where the fairways are thinner and dry...just depends on the patch of grass you land on. The greens are in very good shape rolling around a 10 on the stimp and holding irons with spin nicely....for sure the best part of the course. The tees for the most part are level but there are also dry areas. The greenside sand bunkers were in great shape with soft sand. The three fairway bunkers I was in today were in good shape for a fairway bunker..firmer with just enough sand. This course has some strong par 4's from the blue tees along with the strong finishing island par 3 hole into the breeze. Used to playing this course in the afternoon breeze where #6, #7, #8 and #9 and #10 were downwind...not today those holes play tougher with no downwind breeze. Staff very nice in the pro-shop...I prefer the Lakes layout but this course is not bad for a twilight or discounted round....they do need some more H20 though in the fairways at present time.

Played twilight Sat 8/11. Great experience. Course in in fantastic shape tee to green. Greens were medium fast and smooth. Some ball marks and spike marks due to prior traffic and late tee time. The last comment was kinda nit picking as its hard to find something wrong with this course. The biggest problem RR Vineyard has is its sister course is even better. What a great facility and i look forward to many more rounds here. Oh wait, one complaint the last hole, 180yrds into the wind to an island green. Not my favorite hole on the course. Hard to get there at the end of the day. Tough last shot.

Played on Saturday, 8/11/12, afternoon round with Tony and George from our league on meetup.com and this site. Good walking rate of $27. We were practicing and waiting to be called when the started said our names and told us we were on the tee box. Jeez, how about a little notice, like up next or second up? No biggie. We just had to tell the threesome who jumped onto one tee that we were going first. Starter came out of his hut to back us up, but not necessary. Course conditions are great from tee to green. Greens were fast, but not crazy. The proshop had it listed as 11-point something; I can't remember exactly. The practice green was a close approximation of conditions on the course. It was fairly warm today and the wind was blowing 10 to 15 m.p.h. which affected many shots. I got a couple of good, downwind drives of 300+ yards. Gotta love that. Beverage cart came by about 3 or 4 times. Pace of play was around 4.5 hours. Afterwards we went to the old downtown Oxnard area for some grub at The Kitchen, which was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.

played 8-7 with sixpez late morning. for the most part course is flat and easily walkable with just one small hill to climb. tee boxes are level and lush. fairways are a little dry so you get a lot of roll lies are a little thin. rough was being punched but still easy to hit from. sand was soft on top but hard underneath. greens had been sanded recently so they where a little bumpy and slower then normal.

For birthday round number 2 yesterday (8/7), I headed up to River Ridge to play the Vineyard course. rgm2525 joined me as it was also the last day he had to use up his free b-day round there. I had played the Lakes course a couple times before, but this was my first time on Vineyard. Definitely a different feel on this course with a mostly links style layout along the ridgeline. That is until you get across the street for the final 5 holes, which are flatter with the homes all around. This part of the course is a more standard "residential" layout with water in play on a few of the holes. Not the most amazing layout I've ever played, but solid with a good variety of hole shapes and distances.

The course was in OK shape. The fairways were very dried out and I had a lot of firm/thin lies. The rough was being punched in some areas, but it didn't affect play too much. You just had to brush away the aerated turf pellets at times. I wasn't in any bunkers, but they appeared to be pretty nice. The greens were in good shape. Lightly sanded, but rolled smooth and quick as expected. The greens are probably the highlight of this course with some big undulation, quick speeds and tricky pin placements.

Overall, Vineyard is a solid course and River Ridge is a good birthday deal with two enjoyable courses to choose from. You do have to pay the cart fee ($15) if you choose to ride, but that's still a great value!

Played River Ridge Golf Club (Vineyards) course Thursday with longball23, hwfeng and his son Andrew. Fun surprise on the first tee box when hwfeng recognized me and introduced himself. Very good times on the Vineyard course and the conditions were great. I expected them to be considering we were just two days in front of the oxnard city championship and I expect them to be now. The greens rolled smooth, fast and held shots very well. I always say to myself the Vineyards course is much harder than it’s rated. And the main reason for that is because the greens are very difficult to putt. Don’t be above the hole on this course and hit your iron shots close or face big undulating greens. The fairways were in great shape as well as the rough. There were only a few thin spots on the fairways but overall lush! Sand traps had good quality texture to them and played consistent. Tee boxes, lush, cut tight, although not perfectly level by any stretch but not too sloped to affect your shot. We teed off at 2:50pm and got around in just about 4 hours. Excellent service in the proshop and starting shack.

Highly Recommended.

Played River Ridge Vineyard course from the back tees with JohnnyGK. They are having their city championship coming up and you can tell from the course conditions. Greens were firmer and rolling true since the last time I played here. They were probably running around an 11 on the stimp. They are poa greens that are smooth at present time and hold shorter irons and shots with spin like darts. The fairways were lush bermuda fairways that were in good shape. The tees were lush and for the most part level. Was in a couple sand bunkers today that were raked and had just enough sand in them. The Vineyard course has 3 really long par 4's from the back tees and some challenging par 3's including the "Island finishing Hole". Was 1 over today going into that monster and it ate me up......well done River Ridge with current conditions...i prefer the Lakes course layout but both courses are in great shape right now....check them out especially if you want to avoid the current LA Heatwave.
