Played today for the first time since I played it 6+ years ago. Fun track, fun holes, great staff everywhere from the Pro Shop to the cart guys to the marshal and the maintenance crew. Greens were great. Fairways were a little rough and bare in some areas and really nice in others.The rough is thin in many places and it's sometimes a trick to know where the fairway ends and the rough begins. Avoiding the bunkers on the course is a priority as the sand has some gravel-sized rocks in it which are not fun to hit with nice irons. Nice practice putting green. All in all a really fun day and I will look forward to playing it again.

Played 5-19-25 walking for $32 senior rate, first out as a threesome and finishing in a little under 3 hours. Tee boxes were in decent shape, mostly level stance with some thin areas, and minor divot damage on par threes. Fairways were in mostly good shape, good roll out with some thin and brown spots, but I never had a bad lie. Rough along fairways was not much of a factor, cut pretty short and in okay condition. Rough around the greens was very lush and playing 2-3 inches. Was in two greenside bunkers, one with a good layer of brown sand, and the other had a thin layer of a dirt and sand mixture. Greens were in the best shape I have seen them in awhile, rolling very smooth at a medium pace and playing a little on the soft side. Overall course is in decent shape and well worth the price.

The course is in TERRIBLE shape. They have done NOTHING to the course in the WHOLE PAST YEAR!!!!! With all the rain we had, with the great cooler weather we had this year in this area that was almost unheard of, even getting a downpour here beginning of May, and the course is dried out, crusty, with lots of bare spots and dead spots all over the place!!!! I don't understand it. We told them this is a problem LAST YEAR!!!!! A YEAR AGO!!!!! What the heck happened to the maintenance?????
NONE of the tee boxes had been fixed. They are exactly as bad as they were last year, with cavities and divot holes and bare dirt patches all over them all. We told them this is a problem!!!! How can they let the course get like this, when every other course nearby are all lush and green, even the LA City courses are in better shape than this!!!!, not this thin, crusty, pock-marked mess!!!!
Why did it tale so long to play today? 5 hours just, and most of the tees were up on the gold or even forward than that!!!! There was a little bit of wind, but my gawd, why????? The course is 6300 yards from the gold tees!!!!
The Pace of Play was unconscionable, as was the conditions. I was shocked how badly scrappy it looked. Sure, most of the areas around the greens had some green and some grass, but wow, the rough down the fairways were mostly brown, the the fairways that had always had dead spots are the same if not worse!!!!! Who the heck is looking after this place?
The bunkers are the same crusty, hard-bottom, thin crap. Still?????
It's been another year!!!! A WHOLE YEAR!!!!! and nothing has changed. Well, some things have got worse.
Disgraceful. They are making hand over fist from the food and drinks, but nobody is putting it back into the golf course itself. You let it go a bit more, it will look like how the courses everywhere used to look a decade ago when we went through the drought - dry and terrible fairways and crusty rough, with barely passable greens. Remember that????
So sad.

Two RPGC tournament rounds this weekend and on Sunday we played Simi Hills. I always enjoy this course for various reasons, but I was placed in a flight that was playing from the back tees, so it was definitely more of a challenge for me on this particular day.

Had a 12:40 tee time and it was a gorgeous, sunny and warm afternoon. We all had to take carts (no walking for this one) and the carts are nice but do not have any GPS yet - something to keep in mind if you're coming here first time. The layout is pretty fun and has some water features, a few holes with some interesting elevations (mostly on the front nine) and some tricky angles and landing areas, but nothing too crazy. It's just a solid eighteen.

Greens are in very nice shape right now and rolling and holding shots well. Can't really think of any complaints about them. There are many subtle breaks but the pin positions for the tournament were very difficult indeed. On a regular day out there you should not have too many problems if you're making good strokes.

Fairways had good coverage throughout with the occasional thin area depending on your landing spot. I mostly played solid lies all afternoon. The rough is cut to a comfortable length so no difficulties there, while the bunkers had good, not great sand in them. Tee boxes (black tees) were in good shape as well. Everything is working pretty well right now at Simi Hills.

Definitely recommend and it's always good value for your money.

Played 12-2-24 early morning as a threesome, walking for $32 and finishing in a little under 4 hours with some waiting on back nine. Tee boxes were okay, decent coverage and mostly level. Overall fairways were in decent shape, with a few thin and bare spots in places. Rough was cut pretty low and in just okay shape. Was not in any bunkers, but they looked to be well groomed. Greens are the best part of the course, playing semi-soft and rolling smooth at medium/fast pace. Overall conditions were just okay, and seemed a little dry, but well worth playing for the greens alone.

I played here last Saturday, October 5. If the greens were aerated two weeks ago, I could not tell. No evidence of holes or sand. Greens rolled smoothly with a medium speed. They were on the soft side and I fixed plenty of ball marks.

I checked in a little little early for our tee time and went to the range to hit some balls. This range takes up a narrow area along side of the 10th fairway. It’s basically dirt, and you’re hitting off of mats. It’s not terrible, and there’s a few targets to hit to.

The rest of the course is fairly lush and there was good grass coverage from the tee boxes to the greens.

Bunker sand was okay. I was not in one, but my playing partners seemed to have no trouble with them.

The primetime Saturday rate with the cart was over $80. It would be nice to come back mid week and walk the course at a much lower rate. Great service from the beverage cart. Nice bar at the clubhouse.

Played another RPGC tournament this weekend at Simi Hills and, besides actually finishing in first place in my flight, found the course to be in pretty great shape with one or two minor exceptions throughout the round.

I was in the final group with a 12:50 tee time starting under grey skies that eventually cleared out as we approached the turn. I was assigned to play from the gold tees and rode with a fellow competitor. We had a nice POP most of the round and had cart service on the course a few times so everything in that regard was very solid.

Fairways are in good shape with mostly good lies on any fairways, but of course there are going to be a few thin areas here or there. The rough is thick but not too penal. Bunkers were not the best to be honest - found myself in two and both were very thin and dry but ultimately playable with a good shot. Just not inspiring much confidence. Tee boxes were all level and fairly well kept.

Greens were in really nice shape. Held shots well, were rolling consistently at medium-fast speed and the coverage was nice and uniform. Not even a lot of pitch marks anywhere to complain about so kudos to the greenskeeping crews there for having their greens in pretty optimal shape.

Fun layout, great value and just an all-around good time at Simi Hills. Make it happen.

Played Simi Hills this weekend for an SCGA tournament through Rancho Park Golf Club and was not disappointed in anything other than my driving and putting! In days past it used to be quite easy to get tee times at this little gem of a course, but that's not been the case recently, so I was thrilled to sign up for this event when I saw it on the calendar months ago.

I played from the gold tees and my group had a noon starting time under hazy skies that soon gave way to a beautiful blue and one of the best early days of the spring. The fairways are in very nice shape right now and you'll get very good roll on your ball on tight fairways. The rough was very playable and not too thick at all. Bunkers were in quite good shape and I had no problem getting the club underneath the ball, while the tee boxes were all in very nice condition.

The greens were super challenging for me on this day and I'm not exactly sure why, but they were quite fast and very difficult to read, but rolled true, held shots and their lines well. For the life of me I can't understand how I just could not get the pace down all day, but that's golf sometimes. But overall they are in excellent shape.

The layout at Simi Hills is very fun and engaging with each hole presenting its own unique set of challenges. And the usually dormant creek that runs through holes at the start of the back nine was an actual river - something I don't think I'd ever seen here before, so that was quite stunning and cool to see and listen to throughout the round.

Facilities at Simi Hills are very good but must admit that the driving range is very small with only probably about 18-20 stalls max. Strange with so much land around, but I'm sure there is a reason for it. I'm sure on normal days that's fine but with a large SCGA tournament it was difficult to find a spot to warm up.

POP was pretty solid throughout the day despite the tournament conditions, meaning we finished in about four and a half hours, and there was cart service throughout the day providing everything we needed. No GPS on the carts though in case you're wondering.

Always love coming out to Simi Hills and can't wait for the next tournament here again.
