Another RPGC event this weekend out at Simi Hills and my group had an 11:40am tee time playing from the gold tees, so we were smack dab in the middle of the hottest part of the day and the score reflected it!

Fortunately there was cart service on both nines, so that helped, and the POP was moving pretty well all day. The carts are nice but do not have GPS so make sure to keep that in mind if you're not familiar with the layout and all of your obstacles/layups.

The Simi Valley heat seems to be getting the better of Simi Hills of late as there are a lot of dry areas currently and they're not just in the less-played areas like before. Look, it's understandable out there but we have to keep reviews honest. Right now you're going to find a good amount of hot spots in and around the fairways, but you'll also get good lies that are plenty playable. The rough is just fine. Bunkers were really thin and not much fun to play out of based on that fact.

The greens are still running nicely and have solid coverage and color. A few more pitch marks than last outing though, so that was disappointing. But overall, the greens are the best part of the course conditions right now, rolling true, medium-fast and holding lines nicely with good reads. You can also get your chips nice and close, but the chipping areas around the greens are quite thin so you're going to need to be at your best.

I always enjoy playing this course and this outing was no different, but I believe it's currently a step below its usual very good standards. I have no doubt it will be back to its best when the current heat wave fizzles out.

RPGC played this weekend's tournament at Simi Hills ... always a pleasure to return to this consistently solid 18 and even better on a perfect late spring afternoon. Our group had a 12:10 tee time and played from the gold tees. Recommendation: Epic breakfast burrito at the cafe bar. Good practice/warm-up facilities ... nice carts but no GPS. Off we went. Fairways have seen better days for sure but still very playable - just too many thin and brown lies in comparison to past visits, but confident it will be back to its best in the future. Plenty of mulch/hillside areas to force some unwanted shots, but the rough is good if you find it ... varies by hole. Tee boxes were mostly fine with a few exceptions, while the bunkers were a bit on the crunchy side ... not a hint of fluffy, but the club does what it's supposed to down there. Greens are really good right now. Very speedy, nice surfaces and real consistent from one to 18. In truth, they're tougher than they look and with their current pace, I had forgotten how tricky they can be to the tune of an awful 37 putts on the day. Subtle slopes and tiers make you earn it but you can still score well if you're putting better than I was today. We had cart service swing by twice during the round, and POP wasn't much of an issue as the group ahead of us moved quickly and we had to do a good job of keeping up ... not pushed much from behind though, either. We had a pretty good slot all in all. I always enjoy trips to Simi Hills and today's experience won't make that change anytime soon.

Course was in overall pretty good shape. Tee boxes and fairways were great to hit from. Greens still a bit scarred from aeration but were rolling pretty quickly with some slight bobbles from the punching. Played much better than they looked. Bunkers were a bit inconsistent. Very thin in some and fairly fluffy in others. Rough wasn't too long and was healthy, with some dead/dirt spots around.

Shout out to my playing partners, Tim, Vic, and Beth who were a blast to play with.

Played 1-8-26 for $37 walking as a foursome and finishing in a little under four hours. Tee boxes were okay, decent coverage with some having some bare spots, mostly level with some divot damage on par threes. Fairways were in good shape, green and lush with minimal roll out, some very minor small bare spots in some with very nice lies. Rough was mostly in good condition with some minor bare areas playing between 1-3 inches and very lush. Was in one greenside bunker that had a good layer of sand and in good condition. Greens were the best part of the course. They were smooth, rolling at medium pace and playing semi-soft. Fun semi challenging layout that's mostly flat with a few elevation changes on both sides.

Tee boxes were good, fairways were good and the sand was nice although on the back it was dried out and cakey.

Greens were excellent!!! They rolled so well and true all day.

Geese, lots of geese on the water par 3's.

Pop was ok. one of the guys in our group was a little " tour pro" so it added some time to a would be swift round. Still a beautiful day and for sure windy.

Played today for the first time since I played it 6+ years ago. Fun track, fun holes, great staff everywhere from the Pro Shop to the cart guys to the marshal and the maintenance crew. Greens were great. Fairways were a little rough and bare in some areas and really nice in others.The rough is thin in many places and it's sometimes a trick to know where the fairway ends and the rough begins. Avoiding the bunkers on the course is a priority as the sand has some gravel-sized rocks in it which are not fun to hit with nice irons. Nice practice putting green. All in all a really fun day and I will look forward to playing it again.

Played 5-19-25 walking for $32 senior rate, first out as a threesome and finishing in a little under 3 hours. Tee boxes were in decent shape, mostly level stance with some thin areas, and minor divot damage on par threes. Fairways were in mostly good shape, good roll out with some thin and brown spots, but I never had a bad lie. Rough along fairways was not much of a factor, cut pretty short and in okay condition. Rough around the greens was very lush and playing 2-3 inches. Was in two greenside bunkers, one with a good layer of brown sand, and the other had a thin layer of a dirt and sand mixture. Greens were in the best shape I have seen them in awhile, rolling very smooth at a medium pace and playing a little on the soft side. Overall course is in decent shape and well worth the price.

The course is in TERRIBLE shape. They have done NOTHING to the course in the WHOLE PAST YEAR!!!!! With all the rain we had, with the great cooler weather we had this year in this area that was almost unheard of, even getting a downpour here beginning of May, and the course is dried out, crusty, with lots of bare spots and dead spots all over the place!!!! I don't understand it. We told them this is a problem LAST YEAR!!!!! A YEAR AGO!!!!! What the heck happened to the maintenance?????
NONE of the tee boxes had been fixed. They are exactly as bad as they were last year, with cavities and divot holes and bare dirt patches all over them all. We told them this is a problem!!!! How can they let the course get like this, when every other course nearby are all lush and green, even the LA City courses are in better shape than this!!!!, not this thin, crusty, pock-marked mess!!!!
Why did it tale so long to play today? 5 hours just, and most of the tees were up on the gold or even forward than that!!!! There was a little bit of wind, but my gawd, why????? The course is 6300 yards from the gold tees!!!!
The Pace of Play was unconscionable, as was the conditions. I was shocked how badly scrappy it looked. Sure, most of the areas around the greens had some green and some grass, but wow, the rough down the fairways were mostly brown, the the fairways that had always had dead spots are the same if not worse!!!!! Who the heck is looking after this place?
The bunkers are the same crusty, hard-bottom, thin crap. Still?????
It's been another year!!!! A WHOLE YEAR!!!!! and nothing has changed. Well, some things have got worse.
Disgraceful. They are making hand over fist from the food and drinks, but nobody is putting it back into the golf course itself. You let it go a bit more, it will look like how the courses everywhere used to look a decade ago when we went through the drought - dry and terrible fairways and crusty rough, with barely passable greens. Remember that????
So sad.
