Overseeding was completed in September and the course is now in wonderful shape! The rough has now been pared down and is easily playable, the bunkers are fine and fairways sweet. Best course in/around Vegas for moderate money- and a fantastic treat if you get on their mailing list and can score a "Residents Special". We drive 60 miles round trip from West Las Vegas to play here anytime we can get a special because the course is so aesthetically pleasing, usually in wonderful condition and just an absolute joy to play- and I have 10 decent to nice courses I can play within 15 minutes of my house on the West side. Don't miss it- especially now when the winter grass has grown in to perfection. Not the most "challenging" course around, so if you're a low hdcp you might find it too simple as there's only a few really tough holes when there's no wind. #9 & #18 especially require some better ability, #16 needs a great drive, miss the green on the short par-3 17th and it can bite. But for us average Joes (I'm currently a 10 hdcp- my friends are bogie and higher) it's a pure delight. I always take my out-of-town friends there to play and they all ask to play it again next time they come in.
The greens have been slow this month, but they're not bumpy. So be ready to rap 'n roll rather than execute a silky, smooth putt. That's the ONLY criticism I can come up with besides the usual par-3 tee box divots that lazy players don't ever fill- but hey, that's NOT the course's fault.
Played twice there this month already and looking forward to going back on 10/31 for more!

Let me preface this by saying, I love this golf course. It's one of my favorites in town and during primetime, they charge $70, tough pill to swallow but willing to pay it because it's such a great course. This course was ALWAYS in great shape when it was Tuscany at 20% less of the current prime time premium rate. I played this at 3p on 7/10/19 and was SEVERELY disappointed. The greens are so bumpy, what looks like to be heat burn or some sort of disease. It’s almost as bad as LV Muni having temporary greens because their normal greens were being re-sodded. In addition, there were numerous greens just cluttered with geese poo, I was literally playing slalom to putt to the hole. The fairways were heat burned and really looking like their counter-part, however this was a lot less. Rough was lush, the best part of the course making it challenging to get the ball close to the hole with their plinko style greens. Currently, I would advise HIGHLY against playing this course until they figure out the problems and get them fixed.

After my last experience at Chimera a few years ago, I've intentionally avoided going back. A late invite and no other tee times planned (overnight and early morning rain), I decided to give Chimera a chance to redeem herself and I'm pretty glad I did.

Conditions were outstanding. Tee boxes need some leveling, but mostly divot free. Fairways were lush but a bit wet, and green from tee to green. Rough was about a few inches and the ball would settle down, making it difficult to advance it. Bunkers were wet but it did rain overnight. Greens were smooth, medium fast, with a light dressing on them.

Service is saved by the outstanding F&B staff. Drink cart with specials and a bar/grill that specializes in excellent tasting pizza, staffed by friendly staff. Outside staff was non-existent, I saw them but never encountered them. Carts are upgraded above basic, with overhead bids, USB ports, and a great GPS system with distance to hazards, hole, and other carts on the hole (very underrated especially on a course with some blind shots).

The only sore point for me was the price, $60 for residents. The course is nice, but nothing really stands out about it outside of the approach shot to the 9th green (over water with a waterfall to the left). It's a Ted Robinson Jr design that feels like other Robinson Family designs, like Rhodes Ranch with more elevated changes and less dramatic par 3s. I'm a huge fan of making the par 3s different, but all 3 of the 4 here felt identical and #17 was a close cousin with only water to the right added to change it up. I used the same club on all 4 holes.

Would I play here again? Yes, but maybe only twice a year, due to the rates and the drive across town for me.

Best course for the money in Las Vegas. Conditions are almost always superb. Greens may be a little slow, but comfortable- smooth enough and not very difficult. The rough can be penal- thick, juicy and difficult to get good contact out of for most. But the fairways are nice, the sand well maintained and the course aesthetics are beautiful, making it always fun to play. Normal round a neat 4- 4 1/4 hours in duration. Not a particularly difficult track, most single-digit handicappers would be pressed to find much challenge, but for the rest of us- it's a very pretty course that's both interesting and pleasant to play.

We played Chimera Golf Club on Monday June 4th at 11:20am. The winds were up and the temp was hovering around 100 degrees. There was a lot of play in front of us and the pace was about 5 hours. This is a good course that I enjoy frequenting. But I must say they seem to have gotten behind on the heat wave as many of the fairways had burnt out dry spots. The. Tee boxes were a little beat up as well. This is not typical and I expect they will get a handle on it soon. With the spring winds and heat it appears that they are missing water on some spots. The greens were in great shape and I shot really well so I shouldn’t complain.

Played Saturday, 8/12, with a 7ish tee time. I made the tee time late on Wednesday using their website for $40 and a clear warning the course was in "summer turf transition." I took that to mean the annual dying out of the bermuda to prep it for the winter rye seed. Usually that means dry straw like grass. What we found was huge areas of hard pan dirt (actually mud, but the course can't be blamed for a monsoon that blew through last night). I think I hit off the hard pan at least 7 of the 14 par 4 and 5s. Two holes had all the tee boxes grouped all the way up (11 and 9) as they laid sod down on the other boxes. A handful of greens had their collars in various shapes of repair, from hardpan to new sod. All the tee boxes were shaggy with some divot damage. The bunkers were all hard packed mud (again, due to a summer monsoon that dumped a lot of water in a short amount of time). I was surprised none of the bunkers were filled with water.

On to the positive: The greens were in great shape. Relatively smooth and running at a medium speed. John_T and I opted for the golf boards, which were $10 instead of the usual $25. Customer service was good, from check in to the cart guys to the starter. Only saw the drink cart once on a very hot, muggy morning, and that was on our 10th, after we stopped at the restaurant for drinks. Carts/boards do come loaded with 2 bottles of water. Carts appeared to be new, with dual USB ports, and a GPS system that shows the position of the group in front of you. Slice 19, their bar/grill, was a great stop afterwards, with good food and local breweries on tap.

Overall, I liked the layout of the Ted Robinson Jr design. The 18th really stood out, with a chance to catch a big downhill off the tee, leaving a short pitch over water to green with a waterfall on one side. I know many like this course, but the conditions disappointed me today (even though they did warn me). I will give it another try, but will be waiting until at least November to allow the grass to grow in.

The GOOD - the course is in great shape. Not good but great. Some divot damage on the par-3 tees and some inconsistent bunker sand, but aside from those the course is in the best shape in years. Tees, fairways, rough, and even detail work around the course is really dialed in. Kudos to the maintenance staff. Looks like the new owner is spending some money on the course. Guest services both before and after the round were good. Not a lot of urgency being displayed, but friendly and helpful.
The "Meh" - the starter did his job, if coming to the range and leading you to the first tee is the job. If you're looking for conversation, or looking for information like "pin position," then don't count on him. But with the course packing golfers out steadily in 8-minute intervals (see below), then maybe he can't really do much else. "Line 'em up, send them out!" The greens are very firm. Very firm. They're on the slower side but they're smooth and roll true. If you manage to have a ball mark (unlikely), careful of breaking your repair tool trying to fix it. The practice range wasn't amazing but serviceable. Range balls were okay, some in excellent shape and others worn smooth like a ping pong ball. Hitting off mats isn't much fun, but their mats are in decent shape. Gauging distance when hitting downhill 50 ft is tough but again, serviceable. The chipping green and putting green were good. The golf cart was in good shape with tees provided, but no towel. No bottled water on the cart either. And no GPS! Why no GPS?
The BAD - the pace of play was horrendous. Five plus hours is a long round, and especially on a somewhat easy course with lots of grass and not much trouble to get into. We literally waited on every shot on every hole. No exceptions. And no course marshall/ambassador/host to try helping the issue. Terrible. Also, we saw the beverage cart on hole #5 and not again the rest of the day. With pace of play and golfers standing around everywhere, hard to believe there wouldn't have a been a cart to buy drinks from.
SUMMARY - if you haven't played the old Tuscany course, get out and play it. You'll be amazed by the course conditions!

Played here with sixpez on Monday, 11/16 for the last round of our 54-hole golf and gambling trip. Noon tee time but we got started early and finished in about 3:00, playing through one group at the turn. This was probably the windiest conditions I've ever faced on a golf course, and I've played Desert Dunes on an especially windy day, even by their standards! It was pretty insane. Shots would start on a normal trajectory and then about halfway through the ball flight they would react violently to the wind, veering off in one direction or another or ballooning in the air like a well-struck 64 degree wedge. Anyway, onto conditions, which are pretty good. For some reason the course has splotches of yellow/dormant grass here and there, like bleach splattered on a pair of pants, that visually detracts from the experience. However, the fairways and rough play pretty good no matter the color of the grass. I felt the greens got progressively better the farther into the course we got. The first few on the front nine looked dried out and crusty, and it was difficult to gauge if this would make them fast or slow. By the end of the round, they were more consistent and in better condition. The rough, bunkers and tee boxes were all solid. This course isn't likely to blow your socks off, but the wind might, and it's a decent layout somewhat reminiscent of Aliante to me. Chimera definitely has more elevation changes than Aliante, however. The 18th hole was strong and several holes utilize strategically placed rocks to give the player something to think about. 13 pictures here: https://goo.gl/ZwWOHG
