Had a hard time booking thru golf now, plenty of hot deal times listed but they would disappear when you tried to book. I ended up with a $20 tee time at 2:10. They have 8 min. tee times and the course was packed. I was able to bounce around a little and played in 4 hrs. Course was in rough shape. The greens were the best part, med fast and mostly smooth. Bunkers were OK. The fairways were thin, painted green and spotty. Had to bump the ball. Outside the fairways was a lot of hardpan. I liked the course and the price was right but I would check back on conditions.

Round 2 of my time in Bullhead was at Huukan on Friday 4/15, playing with my cousin as a guest in a Senior Men's Club shotgun tournament. Having read some reviews of this course, my expectations weren't very high, and I'm happy to say they were exceeded. Greens were very good here, just as good as Mojave resort the other day. Rolling nicely, very firm, they were very pleasant to play on. Fairways were a bit hit and miss, although if you put your ball where its supposed to be, you were rewarded with a good lie. Like the other rounds here, everything's firm and dry so you'll get tons of roll. Rough is pretty non existent, if you stray off the fairways you're most likely going to get hardpan to play from, provided you stay out of the houses that line most holes. I was in one greenside bunker, and it had good heavy sand. Tee boxes had a little bit of divot damage here and there but they were nice and flat. I enjoyed the round here, but I think that had a fair bit to do with proper expectations. The company was really nice, and compared to most rounds I play on vacation the price was very reasonable at about $30. For a local's course, Huukan is a decent value

Have conflicted feelings about reviewing this course. My uncle's home is on this course so I have basically grown up with this course. As well you really have to factor in the price in regards to a course. Played here 6:00 Sat Morning. Woke up early before everyone and decided to sneak in a quick round. This course is a member of OB sports so I was able to use my traveling discount and play for $25 with a cart prime time Saturday morning. Staff couldn't have been friendlier. The girl in the clubhouse let me jump the four somes in front of me and play right away since I said I was a single and ready to go. The starter was very accommodating as well. Aside from the $25 and the friendly staff the course is quite boring. It is basically straight away holes with small trees lining the fairways. The fairways aren't in bad shape when you are on grass but that is few and far between. Massive dead spots and rivers of dirt throughout the course. No rough. The greens are mostly elevated and the course' main defence are the small scattered trees, narrow fairways, and tiny dime sized greens. Positives: Tee boxes are watered heavily and lush. The greens are fine, roll well. Firm but to be expected in Laughlin / Ft Mojave. Grass surrounding the greens is well maintained. Fast POP (I finished in under 2 hours burning through as a solo). 18th is a nice hole. Negatives: The bunkers are inexcusably bad. Seriously pay, someone to go and rake the gravel out of the bunkers. They are tiny thin, hard packed, and are a neglected. They have no lips and most balls roll out most of the time. The greens need to be bigger and have some undulation. The course could be scenic with great mountain backdrops but beyond many of the par 3's are dumpsters or other eyesores that kill the raw beauty. The challenge with this review is I can't really blame the course. It is a locals course. In fort mojave the economics are tough. It's a small town in the desert. It wouldn't make sense or be economical to spend the money to make the course nice as no one would play it because it would be too expensive. $25 for a full round of 18 on a weekend is a fair deal. For what it charges its a solid value and fun time. But I wouldn't plan a 4 some and spend 4.5 here knocking it around on hard pan or make the drive from Laughlin.

Played here on 6/6/15 8:00 Shotgun start as part of a 2-day Pioneer River Ricks Annual golf tournament. Had high hopes as I was told/and read the course had been purchased and 'improvements' made; I would hate to see what the course looked like before the 'improvements'. I really don't like to write less than stellar reviews; but feel I owe an honest 'personal' assessment. Bunkers were rock laden and sand starved (recommend bringing a couple 'desert' irons/wedges for the not so wonderful lies). Fairways were a 50/50 mixed bag -- some consisting of nicer lush areas supporting great lies, and many areas slightly on the thin side, with a lot of bare dirt zones throughout...don't know if I could call it GUR. Rough same same as fairways regarding overall conditions. Greens were the ONLY saving grace for us, and probably where the major 'improvements' have been invested. Greens were medium/firm, and best to come up a little short, boune on, roll up for follow on putt(s). Minimal ball marks/rolled slow/medium speed, and pretty true. Course winds through an older housing development so errant shots beware. Clubhouse and Staff were a win win combo...quaint, pleasant, inviting, and friendly. One major point of contention...No place to get the kinks out of your golf swing so if you don't mind cold starts, then you won't have an issue with no driving range. There is however an average sized putting area adjacent to the clubhouse, and that's basically it. Give this course another year or two and it could be another gem of a course in the Laughlin/Bullhead City area for golfers. Not going to write this one off completely...all good things come to those who wait; and knowing how the Mojave Resort GC is (owners of Huukan), it's got to keep getting better. :)

The former Desert Lakes course now known as Huukan is starting to come around. The prior managment group came close to ruining this nice little neighborhood course. Since being purchased by the Mohave Indian group form across the rive the course has done nothing except IMPROVE. They still have a ways to go but the course is on track to be in great shape by this time next year. The fairways are very nice and the greens are in good shape the rough is fairly thin in a lot of spots, but it is slowly comming back after years of neglect. This is a diamond in the rough but soon it will shine again.

Played here Sunday 2/16 morning. Booking a tee time here was a nightmare. The course's online system wouldn't work for me and GolfNow would give me errors here, too. I finally called and they had me down for 7:45. However, booking by phone won't get you any of the good prices you might get online with their "dynamic pricing" schedule. Originally the morning times were $55, but when I checked the day before, they were down to $37. I called and they told me the only way to get the lower price was to book online, even though I made it clear I couldn't book online. Also, they no longer had me on their tee sheet from when I called?!?

I ended up calling GolfNow. They called the course on my behalf and booked a 7:20 time for the $37 rate. Hooray! When I checked in at the course, though, I was not in the system. The guy working Sunday morning was nice and empathetic as apparently this system has been an ongoing nightmare for them. Still, he was unable to ring me up at the lower price because I wasn't in the computer. Showing my GN confirmation was of no benefit. He did give me the resident rate of $39. Better than nothing, but still a ridiculous experience.

Sorry for that, but it's an experience worth sharing and not the only reason this course should be avoided for awhile. This course used to be Desert Lakes and was obviously left for dead before the tribe that owns the Avi Casino and Mojave Resort GC bought the course last summer and renamed Huukan. As it sits now, Huukan feels like a course under repair as they are working to resurrect it. The "essential" parts are OK. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are mostly decent with scattered bad patches here and there. The rough is non-existent and more dirt/mud than grass at this point. It looks pretty bad. The bunkers are also bad with patches of grass having grown through and very thin sand.

The good news is that under tribal ownership, they can use as much water as they want and can put the money in to bring the course back to life. Seeing conditions at Mojave Resort would make one hopeful that Huukan can come around. Still, this is just an average residential course layout to begin with. So even at its best, it won't be anything too noteworthy.

Played 10/23/11 after driving 3.5 hours to get to Laughlin area. First comment must be made about Linda in the Pro Shop. She is such a lady and so helpful, friendly, happy to be there and to greet you. And the Coffee Shop -- the two ladies there are delightful and friendly, filled with customer service attributes. Paid $19 greens fee. Take that into consideration for an older course in great condition for that fee. If the ball stays in the fairway, you'll play quickly through, and probably score well. But!!! Get in the rough, even when you see where it landed, you might search for more than 5 minutes, and not find it. So, have a few extras in your pocket or your bag. Actually, between the two of us in our golf car, we probably found about 15 balls that others had lost. The ball rolls into the rough, and nestles down -- maybe covering itself with grass. So, if you find your ball, and it's nestled just a bit, you'd better take a 7 iron or less and swing hard and true to make it go 15 to 20 yards out of the rough. Gives you appreciation for the pros we see on TV when they swing hard at a buried ball and scythe the grass with the clubhead, and watch the ball go only 25-50 yards. Bunkers, well, they're there. The sand isn't the greatest, and the lips are sometimes so steep you must hit the ball back toward the tee to advance it at all. Remember, though, the greens fee - $19. I play Desert Lakes every year as a warm-up for other golf in the area. It's closer to Laughlin than Cerbat Cliffs, though that course is fun, too, if you don't mind traveling to Kingman. From what I heard from people who played Desert Lakes long ago, I believe the course has improved dramatically. That's good news. Locals -- take better care of it by repairing divots and ball marks. Okay?

The course is great if you are a low handicap golfer. As I am a high handicapper, the rough is terrible, you can hit a ball into it and see where it lands and still not be able to find it. They should issue a weed wacker with each cart. Fairways are narrow and usually unattainable for high handicappers.

Play it for a warm up after not playing for four months. The price after twelve is great.
Fairways are pretty thin, but playable. Play it every year.
