I played on 12/24/11. The weather was beautiful with clear skies and very little wind. The high was 58 degrees which some people would find a little cool. When the sun starts to go down behind the mountain, then it does get really cool.

I have played this course many times. I truly enjoy it every time. It is winter so the outer rough is a golden color because it has gone dormant. The rest of the rough (inner/first cut) and fairways are green which creates a beautiful contrast.

The greens are in winter conditions as well. Normally these greens are medium fast, but because the grass is longer, what I call hairy, they are slow. And, they have donuts (raised up) near the hole. Normally you can see when there's a donut around the hole, but I could not see it. I know the donut was there because lag/slower putts broke away from the hole when the ball got about 3-4 inches from the hole.

This course has two very different sets of nines. The front 9 is the newer 9 and has some tricky holes. For example number 6 has a very elevated tee box and you cannot see the lake and green behind the hill. On your second shot you will see the lake and green. That's when you have to decide to layup or go for it. I thought I had conquered this hole being happy to usually walk away with a 5 on this tricky par 4, but... not this time. I shot a high number!

The course has beautiful views of the Virgin Mountains and desert buttes. The course has very interesting hole layouts with different elevations. It has 5 different tee boxes making this course playable for levels of all players. I play either the ladies red 4739 yards or ladies gold 5335 yards tee boxes depending on my game. The slope and ratings are old on the card. The correct ones are ladies red 67.4/112 and ladies gold 70.7/121.

As I said earlier, I always enjoy playing this course.

Played Christmas Eve 12/24/11 as a twosome,booked our rate last minute using GolfNow.com The parking lot was empty. Just 3 years ago, we struggled to get a tee time because of demand. Now? It's gotta be the economy BECAUSE it was SUNNY, upper 50's,no wind and NOBODY was playing the course.

You are greeted at the Bag drop to have your clubs unloaded IF that's what you are looking for.

Fairways are in very good condition as well as the 1st cut, the surrounding rough is dormant, yellowish in color, so barely 1" is the height.

Bunkers: Major improvement than in the past! Consistent, soft to medium texture, much fluffier than they ever have been.

Greens: Speed of the greens are slow to medium pace. Putts skid across the putting surface. Greens are firm, barely any ball marks are left from approach shots!

Very interesting putting scenario where the cups seemed to be raised slightly above the putting surface. Noticed several putts were on line but IF not hit firm enough would break left/right at the cup!

Tee boxes: Very level lies, below average divots including the Par 3's.

Pace of play for us was very enjoyable (4 hrs), we didn't play slow even though we basically were the only one's on the course so we thought...On Hole #8, noticed a twosome was catching up, they just tee'd off #8 Par 5 while we were reaching the Green on #8. We quickly played Hole #9 Par 3 and made the long trip along the cart path to Hole #10. Played quickly..

While on the tee box (BLUES) on #12, the twosome behind us reached the green on #11. I ASKED nicely, "do you gentlemen want to play through"? All they said was did you see a ball come near the green? NO, so I tee'd off.

While in the fairway on the short Par 4 12th, I can hear being loudly and see them tee off from the "GOLD" tees while we were just 100 yards away from the green in the FAIRWAY. A little rude?

My wife & I putt out, get ready to the BLUE tee box, tee off the next hole, we are in the fairway while they were on the "GOLD" tees. They seemed to be a little impatient....Making some noises, comments while we were hitting our approach shots to the green. While on the green, they continued...We "decided" to let them play through on Hole #14, the long Par 4 since they were starting to get on our nerves. Before we would politely ask them a SECOND TIME to play through, they drove down the cart path just seconds after my wife hit her tee shot...A little unnerving to say the least...We played the same hole a "second" time without being pressured and still finished in 4 hours!

There are some tricky holes on the front nine. I have yet to solve the #1 HDCP rated hole...:( The TEE shot is the most important because IF you hit the wrong club, you will easily find the water hazard just past the 150 marker. IF you layup too far back? Then your approach shot will be all CARRY over the water hazard..yeah, you could play it left and scramble to save par that way I guess. The BACK 9 is the "Original" 9 hole regulation layout.

We always enjoy this course even though it has some challenging holes.

This was the course we played 10/24/11 before we returned back home.. While the course id reasonably scenic, we thought that the green fee was a little steep for the course conditions. Tee boxes were deep enough to nearly swallow a 2 3/4 inch tee and that seemed to be consistent throughout the course. The layout goes (you guessed it!) through a maze of canyons but not anything compared to Wolf Creek down the road or the other courses we played in Hurricane, UT.

There are some risk/reward shots and some water where you wouldn't look for it without a good GPS. I found myself with a flop shot into a 4 foot wide creek running directly in front of one of the greens that you approach from a lower level so it's not visible. We would have been a lot more impressed at a little lower green fee but it was a good ending to the trip and played pretty fast on a Monday morning.

Played on Tuesday 10-19-10.Could not believe it took us to play over 5 1/4 hours on a weekday! Luckily, it did not rain as forecasted.This course is in perfect condition! It was closed for over seeding & recently re-opened a short time ago.I'm so use to the greens being faster than what they are NOW. On the surface they don't look hairy or long but once you putt on them, very slow speeds, took my group a long time to adjust to the speed.In the past few years, by cutting them too low, a fungus developed & the greens were burned in the heat so the following GREENS were replaced last year: Hole #11, #12, #13, #14, #15 and #16.

If you have played this course as the original design name (VISTA - 9) you will find the FRONT 9 & Back 9 holes have been reversed. Hole #1 in the current set-up has been changed to be more user friendly off the tee, I believe the left side water hazard is not as reachable as it use to be, the reeds (swamp as one player called it) have been removed. Hole #5: the natural desert landscape from 70 yards to the green has been replaced with grass, You NO LONGER need to lay up with your approach shot! Hole #8: It is now a lateral hazard (RED LINE) no longer WHITE OB stakes mark the right side of the fairway along the natural flood control area.

Most sprinkler heads are marked, bring your GPS or Rangefinder just in case so you can navigate some of the quirky golf hole layouts on the FRONT 9. The carts DO NOT have GPS capability.

Please pay attention on HOLE #6: Correct club selection off the tee boxes is critical! Very easily your tee shots will find the water hazard that lurks below. I thought I hit a perfect 3 hybrid to the 150 yard marker. I still found the water hazard because the slope at the end of the fairway is not level at all! IF you lay up too far back off the tee, your SECOND shot becomes very long and it's a very large water hazard to carry over to a hard skinny green!

Played July 3. Weather was forgiving and overcast. Temperatures in the low 90's, which was remarkable.

Too many groups out with a threesome behind us, each with their own cart and playing from the forward tees. Felt rushed the whole day since our foursome included a senior and a lady, thus 3 different tees each hole.

Layout is unremarkable. Some challenging and tricky holes that won't get me again next time.

Greens and some tee boxes were TERRIBLE because they were aerating them. So much sand on the greens that it was like putting on dirt.

Overall a good practice track but your last resort (literally) when in Mesquite. The order there is Wolf Creek > Oasis (Palmer) > Casablanca > The Palms > Oasis Canyons.
