Played this morning with former colleagues now retired in Pacific Grove. Had not played here in sometime and happy to play it again. Course is in nice shape and glad we got out early ahead of tee boxaeration. We did catch a few on back 9 but it was OK. Fairways played nicely. Greens putted and chipped great. Heard no complaints from those who found traps. But did from those who found the wonderful ice plant rough. A little cool to begin but sun came out quickly making the back 9 views terrific. Had a great bkfst after the round in the very nice restaurant. Only negative was the $89 green fee. No senior fee only standard fees and annual offers. You can walk for $65 but even that seems high to me for weekday golf. Oh well I don't play everyday so one round with old friends will do just fine.

Had not played Indian Hills in a couple years, what happened the place is 100% better. Kikuyu grass has fairways full for the most part and lies are great. Greens coming out of punching will be good to go in another week. Traps around greens have sand just a bit thin, fairway traps more like hard pan with little give. Course has been cleaned up a lot and the Kikuyu grass has filled in the fairways and tee boxes (tee boxes are not level on many holes have to be a little generous with your tee location)., all in all would recommend going back out there if you have not played it in years as we had, very green right now and for a low end public course it is as good as I have played this year., (was amazed it is in much better shape than course down the street Jurupa Hills which used to be better, not now).

Played yesterday and wanted to update course conditions. The greens went through aerification on 3/24-25. They still had visible aerification holes and were a little bumpy, however they rolled fast. Fairways are still hardpan and drives did roll when balls landed. Rough had enough height to hold the ball if you missed the fairways. They are adding new sand to most of the greenside bunkers. Unfortunately POP was close to 5 1/2 hours. Waited on most every hole.

Played Sunday morning, 8:10am tee time. POP was 4.5hrs. Pace was horrible as always on the first 4 holes and then it seemed to flow.

Course is in overall good shape right now. Teeboxes were good for the most part. They spread out the markers all the way across the tee box, so you have plenty of room to find a decent level spot.

Fairways were good to very good. Didn't have any bad lies all day. They had perfect cushion and good amount of roll out on the drives.

Rough was minimal. Not too penal. Good coverage.

Didn't find any bunkers, but they seemed fine.

Greens were pretty darn good! They held shots very well and were quite fast. As usual, they are diabolical with slopes in certain spots. I had a 4putt from 10feet and missed two other 1 footers! Crazy putting on these greens.

$49 to walk isn't too bad nowadays. Good customer service all around. Recommend.

I hadn't played this course in over a year. Historically it has always been decent. However, that has changed. After paying what I thought was a reasonable fee ($130) the gentleman in the clubhouse said "a couple of our greens are under repair, but you'll have a good time". I should have known. There was not a single green that wasn't 50% sand! Fairways were sparse and appeared to have not seen water in a while. What a shame, this course used to be one of my favorite local courses. Winter visitors may find it acceptable compared to what they have back home, but there is no excuse for these poor conditions this time of year. I expect by May this course will be nothing but dirt.

In Monterey for a few days. Played here this afternoon. Played here many many times when working in Silicon Valley. Had to come play it again. Wonderful layout and IMO a forgotten gem amongst all the big names in the area. Challenging layout with a great assortment of holes with lots of fun elevation mixed in amongst the holes. Found the course in very good condition. No tee box issues. Fairways had good coverage with decent roll and lies. Avoided the bunkers myself but heard no complaints from my partners. Decent amount of rough and many OB areas along with the dreaded ice plat. Found the greens to my liking and having good putting memories from past rounds really helped. Great customer service in the shop. When in the area don't pass this one up. It won't disappoint you.

Rode the blues this morning 4/7/25 with my buddy Ron in 3 hrs 5 minutes passing a 4some on 12 tee and a 2some on 14 tee. Cooler start in the high 50s with a steady 10-15mph wind for most of the back nine. Met by Stacy in the proshop who is super friendly. Rolled a couple putts and we each hit about 10 warm up shots on there grass range.

La P is in great shape with soft receptive greens that still rolled quick and were in great shape! Rated 8.5/10.

Fairways were in very good shape with perfect green lush lies. I noticed 4 sand bottles in each cart which is great for repair and reseeding of divots. U can tell members take care of this course. Many of the fairways are undulating and can slope even well struck drives into the rough. Rated 8.5/10

My buddy stated they re-furbished all the bunkers in 2021 during covid with new sand and they are beautiful and contain the right amount of thick beach sand. Rated 8/10.

Tees were mostly level and in good shape. Rated 7/10

Rough can be challenging and thick. It's in good shape. Rated 9/10.

Layout is awesome and challenging here. 73 qualified for local us open qualifying here last year from a mix of blue/black tees. The front nine gives you a couple scoring opportunities whereas as hang on tight on the back nine. Lots of elevation changes, some doglegs, some carries required for tee shots. A ball strikers delight. The most amazing part of the course for me is the peace and quiet amongst rolling Vineyard hills. The camera comes out of the bag on top of 6 tee overlooking the whole property. If you want to test your game come play LA Pirana.

Played today, April 6, with a 6:50 tee time. I think we were the third group out. The first group was very slow, ended up being a 4:20 POP, which is way too slow for that early. We waited on most shots. Otherwise nice day out there. Pleased to see the snack shack open at the 12th tee. The food truck at the clubhouse was not open when we walked by at 11:10.

Probably a good thing they are aerating this week. The greens were putting as good as I have seen them, rolling true and fast, but they were quite firm. We had trouble finding divots from the balls on some of the greens we hit. Anything more than a wedge was going to bounce out. Very little check on chips around the green. The rest of the course was good. Decent coverage in the fairways and the rough was inconsistent but fairly thick in places. I was in three green side bunkers. Good sand at # 4 and ittle or no sand in the ones at # 12 and #16.

Always a pleasure getting out here, today included. Recommended.

Played in the large Stater Bros corporate "tournament" (raffle) event on 4/5/25 with a bunch of friends, couldn't have asked for a better place to carry a bunch of my hacker friends to a rather average best ball 74. Conditions were pretty top-notch, as expected for a resort desert course: Lush fairways, rough that was thick enough to be punitive and quick true-rolling greens were the norm here. Layout is fairly interesting, despite houses lining every hole, some holes have narrow approaches into greens, most have wide fairways and landing zones, all bunkers were manicured with fine-grained sand that did not hesitate to plop into a fried egg on an errant shot that landed in them directly. The short-ish par 5s (from the whites, 6500yds total) generally have a challenging dogleg element to navigate with an appropriately placed drive: with the right position you can go for the green from 200+ out or lay up, but if you miss the fairway you can expect to be blocked or looking for a shot through various trees palm and otherwise.

Facilities are nice for an older place, the proshop only carried Titleist balls which I thought was a little wacky but they also wanted $20 for a sleeve of three, no thank you. Bar carts were out in force, did not try the local food as it was catered at the turn and afterwards.

The funniest part of the whole thing was being promised a "wind-free round of golf" due to the course's position in south Palm Springs and surrounded by beautiful mountains, but we did encounter strong gusting wind for about an hour that sent a lot of errant balls further off course.

Great facility if you get a good price - tournament was $100 with extensive raffle prizes, I am lucky to have an 'in' for it from friends that work there. There are probably better places to play for rack rate in the valley.

Ball wobbled and bounced a little from the faint punch marks & blooming Poana. Speeds were above average. These greens are smaller than average with above average undulations Making them fairly challenging. The fairways had decent coverage with a mix of grasses and mostly green. You will find a mix of lies in the fairways. Traps mostly firm, difficult but consistent. Basic parkland Muni course. You need to be aware of shots that can fly at you or by you from multiple directions. A fun course with friends or beginners.

Finally got to play the vaunted Pelican Hill North course this week and after building it up in my mind for the last decade, it's safe to say that it did not disappoint. My foursome caught a really wonderful afternoon in terms of weather and even got a discounted rate for the round since the North course recently did a micro-punch (similar to the one I experienced at Pebble Beach) that was nowhere near as off-putting (no pun intended?) as anticipated - more on that later.

We played from the blue tees and headed out with an 11:35am tee time. From the first hole until the last, this layout is exceptional, never mind the stunning ocean views throughout the day. There are a number of long carries from this tee box, and the elevations are truly surprising considering coastal proximity, but holy cow is it fun to play here. There are most certainly some rather 'blind' second shots thanks to those elevations, so experience here I can bet goes a long way. But just an absolutely delightful layout and background scenery.

As previously mentioned, the greens on the North course just got what they called 'the Porsche of punches' and they still rolled pretty darn nice despite the imperfections and some areas with sand. I can honestly say these punched greens are still better than 75% of muni greens around SoCal. The green complexes are really subtle and tricky, but not in any way gimmicky or crazy. Make a good stroke on a good line and you will be rewarded - easier said than done!

Fairways were very good but just shy of great. Found lots of lush areas that were very good to hit from, but it wasn't the pristine carpet at this time of year that you might find at a very high end private club, but they're still plenty good. The rough (and ample OB areas) are very daunting indeed, which is to say there's not a lot of rough and any wayward shots are either gone or in some thick bushes or fescue that make finding your ball a big adventure. Tee boxes were superb and the bunkers were mostly in very good shape (even had two sandy pars!), but I would not classify them as world class white fluffy at this moment.

We had cart service come around a few times on the front nine but be advised there is no turn here so you're on your own out there depending on how often that service is provided. I was actually a little surprised at a resort course of this caliber that there are no 'comfort' stations with snacks and/or beverages near the extreme edges of the course. It's not a deal breaker in any way, but just odd considering the normal price here.

Carts were very nice with great GPS and the POP was terrific on the front nine, then our group was caught up by a fast threesome whom we let pass us on the 12th hole. We got done in just around four hours even so that was great, but truth be told I was hoping to sneak in nine more holes at this tremendous facility.

I hope that I can knock out the South course this year as well.

Early morning four hour Friday round on a very open course. The staff is very informative and friendly each time here. Still no range just hitting nets and a not so large practice green. The carts are comfortable and equipped with windshields but no GPS. They are still charging very reasonable rates with the redo still in progress. The tee box were all level but somewhat thin and shaggy. There were a couple boxes that were slightly firm making the tee placement difficult. The rough has grown since the last time here and made finding a ball like an Easter egg hunt. The maintenance crew was out mowing the entire course as we played through them at times. The grass clippings and long grass were discouraging. The fairways are filling in with noticeable Kikuyu grass on a few holes which seems to be the ticket. Many golfers neglecting to fill divots on the fairways which is disrespectful to others and hinders the progress of the grounds crew. The lies on the fairways did require a foot wedge at times to get a fair lie but generally the coverage gets better as you progress through the round. The sand traps for the most part had adequate sand which was damp at times. The edges of almost all traps are very shaggy and need attention. The greens had decent coverage with a few having thin/bare spots especially on the first few holes. The condition of the greens was good but the speed was very slow compared to the last round with much less break than you read. The water ponds have definitely filled up and added to the difficulty of play. The location is a little distant for some but definitely worth the drive for those wanting a challenge at a decent rate.
