Went out Yesterday 4/4 using club corp $26 and tee'd off an hour earlier than my tee time of 10. Course was moderately busy with groups of 3-4 going out every 15 minuets. I joined up with two guys names John (easy to remember). We zipped around the first 5 holes then caught up to a foursome who ended up letting us pass on the back nine. We played the Black/ combos and it was the perfect length for me.

Course was in fantastic shape today as expected for spring in AZ being the peak time of the year. Fairways were lush almost carpet like throughout the day and cut short to allow roll for days. Greens were almost perfect, they were smooth and very fast all day which was consistent to the practice green. The only reason they didn't get a perfect score was 2 false edges had some growth issues and I found both of them. Rough can only be described by one work "diabolical" It was 3 inches thick and very penal. I had issues on the 600 yard up hill Par 5 13th, It took me an extra 2 strokes to make perfect contact to get out of it. I sure found a lot of rough yesterday and it kicked my a#$. Tee boxes were a little chewed up and should be moved around but it wasn't anything to be mad at. The only thing that disappointed me was the sand traps they were all wet and firm. They need a lot of TLC.

Overall I really enjoyed this course and with the well placed tree's and narrow fairways Accuracy off the tee is a must. Also the greens were very tough to play with lots of false edges and multiple tiers to manage, mix with with speed approaching 12-13 on the stimp made for a fun day. I will be back to play on my trips to AZ as it was a fun track.

After Wickenburg Ranch, I headed down to Los Caballeros for a 12:00 tee time. Found a great GN hot deal for only $21 (plus tax/booking). I was paired with a couple and we enjoyed a nice pace. We caught up to a slower twosome on the back nine, but never pressed them too much and we finished in about 3:20. The wind was howling all round, so that added some entertainment! The course was in decent overall shape. It's definitely starting to dry out and get ready for a summer transition, but the playability was still pretty nice overall. Tee boxes good. The fairways provided ample roll-out and good lies to hit from. The rough was maybe more inconsistent, but never too much of a challenge. The bunkers here had much better sand than WR (not nearly as coarse). The greens were on the inconsistent side. Most of them were quite nice and all were as well maintained as they could be, but a handful are dealing with multiple grasses growing in (a poa invasion I think?). They are very speckled in appearance and the overall surfaces on approaches and putts react differently than the normal greens. This course is very different than WR and has a little more local/rustic flavor. The front nine isn't terribly exciting other than a couple of fun holes, but then the back nine perks up with more interesting scenery and hole designs. I found the course reasonably enjoyable overall and it kind of grew on me by the end. It is not a must-play like Wickenburg Ranch, but it's a good option for a 36-hole day or to mix things up if staying in town for more than a day. The staff was very friendly and the overall vibe is very laid back. When I was getting food the turn, a waiter walked by the bar with a tray full of fresh-baked cookies for the Derby Day crowd and offered me a potato chip cookie (you heard me right). Yum!

My second course for the day was not what I expected. It's listed on the Golf Week top courses you can play in Arizona. Felt like the local Muni though. Course is green and pretty lush except a few places where it's not. All the grass felt the same just shorted on the fairways and tee boxes than in the rough and even shorter on the greens. Most of the sad traps played or looked pretty hard. Understandable, if they don't maintain them everyday the sprinklers definitely hit the sand. 60%-70% if the cart paths are dirt.Nothing felt special out here. Appears to be running on a skeleton crew for the summer at least.

Most tee boxes were flat, but not quite short enough. Also most of the tee boxes contained all the different colors so even you are playing blue black or while 75% are within the same 20 yards. Only the women's were in a different area. Course is pretty flat but the tee boxes and greens are raised up.

They also close way before the sun sets. But I guess that's to be expected in the heat and so few people playing in the afternoon.

Not a bad track to include on a road trip if you have the time, but Quintero isn't far away if you only have time for two courses in the area.

On an aside. If you play here and Wickenburg Ranch in August most of the restaurants in town are closed and there are very few if any non fast food places to eat.

Played on 1/20/16. LC is a really fun course, a little tough for most. Nice setting, on the edge of civilization - you see houses, but they aren't really close enough to the course to notice. Course is in very good condition for winter - grass is a bit tight on the fairways, but outside of that there was little not to like. Greens are very smooth, but tough to read and tough to putt for me. The layout is very good, challenging without being too penal. I highly recommend this course to all.

Pros- I was driving from LV to PHX for the Thanksgiving Holiday and I wanted to stop and play some place off the beaten path. Some of the guys on here suggested this course so I gave it a try. This place is almost perfect. I could write an essay on the course, but I will simply put down some of the highlights. The staff and the facilities were top notch. The layout provides a variety of shots needed and challenges all different level of golfers. The course opens both 9's with simple and straightforward par 4's and that is the end of straightforward. The course has great risk reward short par 4's and some amazing par 5's. The 5th hole, a 530 par 5, has a ton of elevation change and provides a uniquely difficult landing area. The 18th is a great par 5 as well. This course is typical desert layout with a ton of elevation change. 14 of the holes require an uphill approach to the green, often times some 30 or 40 feet. The overall experience is top notch and I would go back tomorrow.

Cons- The rain had soften the course a ton. The greens were not as fast I would have hoped for and the fairways were a tad shaggy, but it is easy to understand why. This course is in the middle of the desert and gets limited play, so they have to take extra care of making sure their mowing is perfectly timed. The cons are seasonal only, simply a matter of bad timing.

Overall- Worth the green fee, worth the drive, and would play again! Great Job Los Cab
