Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139) in 3.5H twilight with a nice H/W on vacation from Chicago. Beautiful weather, mid 70's, clear and calm. Tees level/lush with most divots properly repaired. Fairways lush, cut tight and nice to play from. Bermuda rough greening up and becoming more lush by the week. Sand traps nicely maintained with good quality sand. Large Bermuda greens had been recently top dressed with a thin coat of sand. They actually rolled even better than usual and were downright quick. Customer service excellent from all encountered. Bottled water provided. Usually no drink cart on weekday afternoons. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. Driving range is close to a mile from the Pro Shop and the basic carts do not have GPS. Very nice Fazio design in excellent playing condition. Desertscape on both sides of most holes with many forced carries. If you venture more than about 10 yards off most fairways with pace you are one bad bounce away from penalty strokes on this course. Definitely recommended.

Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139) in 3.5H twilight with William. Mid 70's, clear and calm. Tees level/lush with most divots repaired. Fairways lush and nice to play from. Bermuda rough coming out of dormancy. Getting thicker and deeper. Sand traps very nicely maintained. Consistently some of the better traps I have ever played. Many of the lips are just high enough that well hit shots are required to escape. You hit a few of the fairway traps and a GIR is not happening because the lip is too severe to hit longer clubs over. Large Bermuda greens also coming out of dormancy. Smooth, firm and medium speed. Customer service excellent all around. Drink cart around once. Bottled water provided. All grass practice area includes unlimited practice balls and is excellent. Chipping green, sand practice green and 3 putting greens total between the two courses. Driving range is close to a mile from the Pro Shop and the basic carts do not have GPS. Excellent Fazio design in very good playing condition. Highly recommended.

Very nice Fazio design in excellent playing condition. Depending on your tee choice, many tee shots hitting over no man's land. Green tees feature several intimidating forced carries. Overseeded tees level/lush with most divots repaired. Overseeded fairways lush and nice to play from. Bermuda rough mostly dormant and not overseeded. Provides a great contrast with the lush green fairways, tees and greens. Sand traps immaculately maintained. Fairway bunkers more firm. Around the greens plenty of soft white sand. Large Bermuda greens smooth, firm and medium fast. Challenging getting around these large green complexes w/o a 3 putt. Much tougher than average greens IMO. Customer service excellent on all levels. Bottled water provided. Drink cart around once later in the round. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139) twice in the last week. Averaged 3.5H rounds mid day. 60's and windy makes it feel cold. From the Green tees, many holes have elevated tee shots hitting over no man's land. Most holes are ringed on both sides by desert penalty areas. Very challenging layout with potential penalties in play if you stray even a little on many shots. Overseeded tees very good. Level/lush with only a few divots unrepaired. Overseeded fairways lush and very nice to play from. Bermuda rough not overseeded, provides a great contrast with the lush green fairways, tees and greens. Penal because it's long enough for the ball to sit down. Around the faces of elevated greens on upslopes the rough is often brutal. You HOPE your ball finds a trap. Sand traps immaculate. Around the greens plenty of fine white sand. Fairway bunkers firmer. Large Bermuda greens smooth, firm and medium fast to fast. You have to play for run out on irons and chips because of both the speed and firmness of these greens. Customer service excellent on all levels. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. No GPS on the otherwise nice carts. Bottled water provided. Saw the drink cart several times and you can order food at the turn. Excellent restaurant on site. Definitely recommended.

Overseeded tees excellent with most divots repaired, level/lush. Overseeded fairways lush and nice to play from. Bermuda rough mostly dormant and not overseeded. Not overseeded, provides a great contrast with the lush green fairways, tees and greens. Sand traps excellent. Around the greens plenty of fine white sand. Fairway bunkers firm. Bermuda greens smooth, firm and medium fast to fast. Few true tiers, but with the amount of break, firmness and speed these greens are quite challenging. Better be on the correct side of the hole. Overseeded fairways lush and very nice to play from. Dormant Bermuda rough provides a great contrast with the lush green fairways, tees and greens. Very unpredictable clumpy lies make it penal. Sand traps excellent. Around the greens plenty of fine white sand. Fairway bunkers much more firm. Very challenging large green complexes with swales and drop offs. Bermuda greens smooth, firm and medium fast to fast. I putted from the fringe on the high side all the way across the green into a sand trap on the low side today on a putt that did not appear to have that much pace. WRONG! Customer service excellent on all levels. Bottled water provided. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. Only negatives are that it is close to a mile from where the Pro Shop is located. Tight layout in spots with desert scape surrounding nearly every fairway/green on both sides. If you are not straight this course will become penal very quickly. Course would be almost unwalkable from a POP perspective. Basic carts do not have GPS. Highly recommended.

Played Wed.07/01 Had initially planned on playing The Golf Club at Dove Mountain, but received a message from Nicksquire that Ventana Canyon would be a better choice. The course is in great shape. Tee boxes are very good . Fairways are semi generous in size and in excellent shape. The rough is still dormant and not penal at all. The sand traps had plenty of sand. The highlight are the greens. They are in the top 5 of all the golf courses i have ever played.

Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139) in 5H mid day. Paired with Rob, Brian and Marge. It was in the high 90's, overcast and calm. Tom Fazio design. Many holes have severe elevation changes. Common them is that you climb long distances in carts, then play down hill, then repeat the process. No holes were severely uphill. The layout is tight in spots with desert scape surrounding nearly every hole on both sides. If you are not straight this course will become penal real quickly. The Bermuda tees were excellent with only a few divots here and there. Level/lush. The Bermuda fairways had been vericutt and were maintained long, almost like light rough. Only part of the course not excellent or exceptional. The Bermuda rough was mostly lush and maintained at a level that the ball often sat up. Usually good to play from. The sand traps were the best I have played out of in a long time. Fine, coarse sand that was excellent to play from and they were beautifully maintained. The Bermuda greens were smooth and medium fast. Best Bermuda greens I have putted on since I played the sister Canyon course here last year. Only negatives are that the basic carts do not have GPS and that this complex is REALLY spread out. You park close to a mile from where the practice facilities and first tees are. This course would be almost unwalkable because of this plus on many tees you ride hundreds of yards from the last green to again play downhill. The customer service was exceptional from everyone. Cart gal out making the rounds. Plenty of water stations on the course. Nice, all grass driving range which includes range balls. Excellent layout, one of the top dozen courses I have ever played, very enjoyable to play. Highly recommended.
