Hello, again, Monarch Dunes! It's so nice to be back and have the chance to play this course once again. We played here with RobStrech, longball23, and RGM2525-- Great company-- Amazing golf course!

In a group outing, Greenskeeper.org 's annual visit to this course, my friends and I were very satisfied with its current course conditioning and its playability. The greens were nice and on the fast side, the fairways rolled nicely, the bunkers and its sand were in good quality and the teeing grounds were just fine.

They always have good service here from its pro shop and the restaurant/bar Butterfly Grill and the beverage service came around at least twice around the course.

This course is definitely a fun track and a good test with the links feel combined with matured cypress along side the fairways. It is beautiful and very much fun to play.

Can't wait to visit it again!

Good outing with the GK event on Saturday. The course conditions are really decent right now. Level tees, good sand, lush grass conditions from tee to green, and medium-fast greens in a great Central California location. I like the fact the nines were flipped. It is a nice finish, looking at the club house as you come in on 18.

Played in the GK event at Monarch Dunes Sat Sept 29th with a 12:20pm tee time. Was paired with Noeldalf, Robstretch and RGM2525. We played the Gold Tees. I must say that the course was in even better shape than when I played it two years ago. I thought each and every fairway was lush, provided above average lies and were in good shape. The tees were all level for the most part and provided a good teeing ground. Some of the par 3's had some minor divot damage but not that bad at all. I was not in any bunkers so can't comment on those. The greens were in good shape and were very firm. They rolled true for me for the most part. The course put a couple of pins today (#17 comes to mind) that with the firm greens if you were above the hole or chipping from the wrong area you were going to have issues getting it close. Their are some birdie holes out there but several tough holes including #1, #10 and #18 which is a thinking man's layup hole. The carts were in good shape but did not provide GPS for those interested. The staff in the restaurant and pro-shop were very nice. The driving range is really neat watching your shots hang in the air going down hill. They have a nice size putting green and a practice green by the driving range. Their twilight rates look good to me, if I lived in the area I would be playing this course. I would recommend this course at present time, good conditions and a challenging fun layout.

Played with the wife on Friday at 1230, weather was cool, but heated up later. This is a solid links style course that was challenging, but not overwhelming. Greens were fast, but can use some work. Lot of unhealed pitch marks and different grass growing on the greens. The fairways were in pretty good shape, and the rough wasn't punishing. Was only in the sand once and it was more like hard dirt. The tee boxes could use some help, but other than that, this course worked well for us. The pace of play was pretty good, about 4 hours to finish our round. One of the better courses in the area.

Went on Central Coast Golf Trip this past weekend.

This was course #3 on SAT, August 4th.

The fungus/discoloration on the greens is almost all gone. Course was in great shape. Fairways were lush, and greens were running @ 10. Sand traps in good shape too. Tee boxes could use some work, but you are seeing the improvements made by management to improve the course. Customer service was pleasant. We even played the 12 hole challenge afterwards. Overall, another quality round @ Monarch Dunes. Can't wait to come back in 3 weeks.

Having played here since its opening several years ago, I have to agree with some of the previous posts about current conditions. As I understand new management has come in in the last year or so, and so far its looking like they don't intend to maintain the level it once was. Yes many, almost all of the greens are getting over run with some other type of grass that leaves it with numerous patches of lighter green grass. Although I didn't notice it effecting my putts too much, it looks horrible. Just the overall appearance of this once fine course leaves you feeling like its not being well maintained. I really hope this is a temporary thing because I love the layout.

Went to Central Coast this weekend for a quick golf trip. We played 3 courses. This was course #3. We played on Sunday, 5/6 at noon.

The course is in good shape. Beautiful clubhouse and practice facility. The greens have some circle fungus on them and also some weird grains growing on them. The speed and lines were putting true despite this. Fairways, sand, and tee boxes in good shape. The natural terrain makes this course unique and beautiful. We played the 12 hole par 3 course 1st for $10, a great deal! Any of the 12 holes would be signature holes at any other course. Customer service was good and the course was busy. The GPS project from 2 years ago has failed. They are longer on the carts. Pace of play was 4.45 for a Sunday afternoon. Had 3 birdies today, so I'm thrilled..

Overall the course and facilities is somewhat in need of maintenance and additional upkeep. The overall layout is very good...fair for high handicappers and challenging for the long hitters. From reading various reviews from yelp, california golf, tripadvisor, etc. this place, in my opinion is about a 2.5 to 3. We paid $58 for out of town seniors.

Fantastic track. We played this course on Saturday, March 4th (2012) and the course was in spectacular condition. The only part of the course that was not in great shape were some of the greens. Specifically, at times there would be patches on the green of different types of grass. This is common for courses that see a lot of play since golfers shoes typically carry some sort of other grass from prior rounds, and it begins to grow with the native grass. In any event, tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, rough, and just about every other part of the course was well kept. The layout is challenging, but not overly penal. You certainly have to have your yardages dialed in to score well with numerous elevation changes, and nice ocean breezes from nearby Pismo to veer your shot off course. Nonetheless, the challenge is not so great as to ruin a good round. Apparently, they are under new ownership, and the former front nine is now the back nine, and vice-versa. It was my first round, so it didn't make much difference except that my GPS app on my smartphone was outdated, so double check to make sure you are on the correct hole if using such an application. Conclusion: great value, great condition, great location, and wonderful experience. I would rate it an 8.5 out of 10.
