Greens were fast and the ball wanted to roll forever! How KevBig needed only 27 putts I'll never know! Came back the following Tuesday and played the challenge course - another excellent experience.

I like this course. It is a little drive but worth every penny. If you are up that way it is a "MUST" play bucket list course.

The course was in good shape. Greens rolled pretty true and fairways were in good shape. Tee boxes were level and good for me I was not in the sand. The course is very fun and will challenge you in different spots. Course knowledge is key, but not necessary to have fun.

Driving range is grass and was in good shape. Now the driving range is down hill, so it makes it a little difficult to really see how far you are hitting the ball. It is mainly for ball flight. However, it will help you on some holes.

I didnt see any chipping area but there are two good putting areas. There is space to chip but no green to land. This course has a lot of extra space. As you are driving around the course, you will see other practice areas for the community? It is really interesting.

Course could also consider having a pin stand on the first tee or in the club house. This way the golofer will know where the pin is on these greens becuase it does make a difference, considering the greens are not flat in many places.

All in all the course is fantastic and a lot of fun to play. I would recommend to get out there and play it several times if you can. Enjoy.

Fun course. Some very challenging holes and some easier ones to keep you sane. Many holes have water in play. Some have major elevation challenges. Greens were very firm so not a lot of bite to them but very smooth and fast. Sand was a little heavy at times and there are a number of bunkers that seem more like sand patches rather than bunkers. This is one of those courses you want to play again.

Played the challenge course before our round and really loved it! Could play that course on a regular basis. Greens weren't as fast but very large and undulating. Visually dynamic and a little of everything in par 3's. If you get the chance take the time to play this. You will enjoy it!

Played a GK event here on 10/08. Had a GREAT time. Course was in fabulous condition. Played the 12 hole challenge course first- man what a great course for your short game. Sure wish I could play that every week! The Old Course is always a test of your game management. You can just grip it and rip it on every hole- it needs to be thought out. The forward tees make the course manageable but still challenging for shorter hitters. Warm up facilities are top notch and food in the restaurant is above par. Can't wait to play here again.

Played this course for the first time in the GK Outing Saturday. What a course! What everyone else has said is pretty much spot on. The course is spectacular. Tee boxes, fairways, greens, rough, bunkers are all pristine. Greens are fast but smooth and putts do roll true. Some bunker placements reminded of Whistling Straits (think Dustin Johnson at the PGA). Not a long course by any means but be sure to check the wind direction. Tall trees lining the fairways and afternoon shadows made finding your ball a little tricky at times and they can also mess with your depth perception on a few approach shots. GPS would have been nice but that's really the only knock I can think of. Can't wait to play here again. Oh and the Challenge Course is awesome as well!

Pretty much agree with everything everyone else has said so far. It is certainly a course were playing it a few time would be beneficial. I wish I had a few do overs. There were plenty of tee boxes to choose from but I thought the way the holes were designed there seemed to be a lot of divots in the same areas. Basically no matter what tee you're playing everyone was hitting it in the same area. Like everyone else has said these are firm greens. I hit a couple of sky balls into these greens and they barely left a mark. The wind was also a factor out here. Sand was really good. Me and David got a chuckle of of where some of the bunkers were, it really is the "Dunes" in Monarch Dunes. Nice big grass range and I think we counted 3 putting greens around the course. One was even located in the middle of the front nine somewhere. I really did like this course my only compliant is that I don't live closer to it and I missed the outing last year. I think its a great value and can't wait to go back.

First time playing here. I recommend that management create some sort of yardage book with a layout. Loads of blind shots, Hole 9 comes to mind. Course knowledge is key. There is no GPS so had to do a lot of eyeballing on distances even with the yardage markers on every sprinkler head (nice touch by the way) it was hard for me to see certain shots to properly create/shape a shot. Overall though, great course. Greens where FAST. Traps well stocked with sand. Fairways and rough were lush. Tee boxes were flat. I enjoyed my round. Finished the course in under 4 hours.

I can understand why other folks rave about this course. It's a class act through and through. If you ever get the chance, play this course. My only tip for the newbie approaching this course for the first time is this is a links style course. Roll up your shots to the green. You will be rewarded with a nice short put on the green to finish up. Puts do roll VERY true, just remember they are very FAST; so tread carefully.

Played 10/8/11 in the GK event - my first time at this course. I'd heard good things and read other reviews and was looking forward to the course, which then exceeded my expectations with dramatic elevation changes, huge tiered greens, and visually-cool shaggy dune formations. With no GPS or yardage book (come on, MD, you can't be a high-end destination without these features!), it will take several rounds to get the nuances of hitting lines, what to avoid, and green features. Several greens were extreme in terms of elevation change, mounding, etc. All the par-5s had tabletop green surfaces with moat-like surrounds, and buried elephants and rhinos were scattered around the greens as well. Hole number 1 is a brutal start with water on both shots and into the wind on the 3-hcp hole!

Conditions - greens were a little too firm to hold shots well, very fast, but looked thin. Sand was everywhere but in good condition. Fairways good, rough not too deep, depending on where you were. The whispy dune vegetation could really bury your ball.

Cart guy(!), enough water available, but grill closed pretty early for a Saturday. Thanks to my playing partners, weber2323, kviser, and Moneysworth for making this a great time and carrying the load while I three-putted my way around the course! Highly recommended. I think with repeated plays I will really like this course - looking forward to the next (GK or other) opportunity.

Played in the GK outing, very nice event.

The course looked fabulous, the greens were FAST & firm, it was difficult to make a ball mark even with a full wedge coming in high. Very undulating greens even when they appeared to be fairly flat, difficult to read subtle breaks, easily the quickest greens I've attempted to putt on in recent memory. Tees boxes were well maintained & in good/excellent condition. The fairways were lush & green, but you could get some tight lies. I wasn't in any sand, but it appeared to be well maintained as well. Overall, excellent course and layout.

My only complaint was that the pro shop & the Marshall BOTH told out group that it was pin position #6... which we later found out was actually pin position #3. Makes it a challenge when no one in your group knows the course well. It is flat out irritating to have an almost blind shot from down in a valley where you can only see the top of the pin & the pin sheet indicates that it's a back left pin... and you hit your shot to what you think should be 20-30 ft. below and to the right of the hole... only to find that it's a back or middle right pin instead. And the shot you thought should be 20-30ft. from the hole in the middle of the green is actually now off in a ditch or drainage area, because what the pin position sheet indicated should have been the middle of the green wasn't.

The grill provided a typical golf course type menu @ typical golf course prices, it was a little odd that they closed @ 5pm on a Saturday afternoon for food service.
