My weekday 4some usually alternates between Harding and Presidio but haven't been to Presidio since the big storm back in December. Presidio is very hilly and does not drain well and even though there has not been any rain for well over one month, the course was still a bit sparse on many fairways especially on the hills where huge trees can create many a sunless day. Greens were fairly good. We always walk but because we've been playing Harding which is mostly flat, we were huffing and puffing our way around the course. But it is only $34 and because of the Loyalty program, a full breakfast is free. They gave out logo metal repair tools which is nice. Everyone there is nice. POP was good. Short game area and matted range is available. Arnold Palmer managed. It was foggy as heck for the first couple of hours, then sunny and kinda warm for another hour or two and by the time we finished, it was foggy and cold again. Typical SF weather. No refreshment cart today but there is a snack hut centrally located and of course at the clubhouse. Bad weather coming in this weekend so we'll break from here for a while.

This course is a diamond in the rough. The Presidio is a great course with great value. If you join the Loyalty Club and you will get one point per dollar you spend. You can buy a breakfast for 30 points or you can cumulate points for food, drinks, merchandise, or even a round of golf. The course is in great condition but the bunkers need some work. Most bunkers are dry and hard. Its greens are generally slow with the exception of one or two. If you are used to playing in the East Bay, you will be short on every single putt. Almost all fairways are hilly with slopes on the left or right. Some fairways are uphill or downhill slopes. It is a challenging course but fun to play. It is much tougher to play in the afternoon when the wind is blowing out of control. No. 4, its signature short par-3 hole offers you the greatest opportunity to hit a hole-in-one among all par-3 holes. No. 12, the long par-4 hole, requires a precise tee shot and a long fairway shot in order to get onto the green in two shots. If you bogey, it is a good score.
The pro shop staff is very friendly and the cafe serves good food.
Green fees are great for locals and seniors but quite expensive for others. However, if you play here, you will like it. Bring more balls.

We've been playing almost weekly usually Wednesdays. Great walking course, better to play early to avoid cold afternoon winds. Hasn't rained much which can really muddy up the course so conditions are fabulous. Greens for the most part are rolling true. Tee boxes and fairways are fine. Join the Loyalty Club which is free and the round you buy earns a free full breakfast. Clubhouse is nice, staff is nice, range is just for warming up as you hit into a valley. There is a snack bar/restroom in the center of the course. Hilly like the streets of San Francisco which makes your tee shot a make or break for many holes. Let's see, Hole #1 is a downhill dog right shot but not too many if any other turns after that. There are some holes with sloping fairways that make a down-the-middle shot run off the fairway so there is some target shooting here. Lots of trees, fescue-lined bunkers, no water hazards. Pace of play was good for walkers, slow for buggies due to cartpath only. Patrons friendly and courteous and well-dressed.

Well, now that I've hit the big 6-0, I am now eligible for senior rates at the Presidio Golf course in San Francisco. For M-Th, I pay $34 to walk and being a member of the free Loyalty Club, when you spend $30 you get a free 2 egg, 2 bacon, potatoes, toast and coffee to boot. The course is in great condition from tee box to green. It's a hilly course and some course knowledge helps but it is now my home course until Harding finishes replacing the poa annua grass with bent sawgrass on their greens sometime in March. But I'm here to stay at Presidio at least until it starts raining hard. The hilly terrain with it's valleys will really mush up making it extra tough if you are not in the right place on the fairways. Great to walk because you'll get your cardio in at this course. Bunkers have quality sand making it predictable but watch out for the fescue grass lining the bunkers. No water here so the main hazards are the bunkers and very old trees. Hole #1 has an elevated tee box with a dog right around some very tall trees and driving range. Hole #2 is another elevated tee shot with trees on the left, bunkers and a hill on the right and a big valley fairway leading to a blind second or approach shot over a hill to a tiny green. Hole #4 is a wedge par 3 to a fairly large green but almost completely surrounded by nasty fescue lined bunkers. Fun course but it can be slow on weekends and afternoons. Weather is better mornings as the winds kick up in the afternoon especially in the summer.

Beautiful conditions all-around made this a very enjoyable round. Nothing "level", both elevation and side to side, raise the "challenge" factor higher then normal. I've added some various pics for everyone to gain a pretty good perspective of what to expect when visiting this place. You won't regret playing a round here, but just pick a day when the breezes are minimal.

played 7-24 first out. first time i ever got asked buy a starter to play slow. very scenic course with a lot of elevation changes. they have a temporary green on the first hole about 175 out from the blues. they rebuilt the first green and it is not open yet. tee boxes where level with lush grass. fairways a little thin but still had good lies. dont know if they had a pipe break but at they bottom of the third fairway was a small lake. rough was 2-3 inches but easy to hit from. get outside the first cut and you where under trees with anything from bare spots to foot tall grass. they are working on the sand traps went into to that have not been redone and sand is thin and hard. traps with new sand on them looked nice and fluffy. greens where in pretty good shape rolled true but a little slow. found a good deal on golfguide.org for half the non resident rate dont know if i would pay the full $125 to play here.

Still one of the best golf courses in California. When you get a weather day like today and the course conditions the way they were, you wish you could play this course every week. The improvements the Palmer corporation put into this course since taking it public have done nothing but improve the playing enjoyment of this course. Great customer service; wonderful food; outstanding fairways and great greens to putt on, just enhances the day of golf. It is such a wonderful place to play and so difficult to believe you are in SF, let alone playing golf at such a wonderful course. It is also hard to concentrate while on the course because of the views. You get to see parts of SF that you rarely would if you were not on the course. If you are in SF or in the bay area, do yourself a favor and play here. You will be glad you did. The residents of SF have a great golf course and I am very thankful that this became public so that it can be played and enjoyed by the rest of us.

Played a mid-week round, starting around 4pm. The conditions were poor - foggy and windy - with 2-3 hours of daylight remaining. These conditions were not conducive to an enjoyable day on the course.

This course requires course management. However, there is no layout or playing tips on the score card or the tee signs and there are few yardage markers on the course. It's a course that you can't expect to play well without playing it often. The course has plenty of challenges, it demands precision shot making and good course management.

The condition of the course was fair, sometimes poor. The fairway turf was often heavy and the grass was thin. Although it looks good from a distance, it feels very sticky under the club head and, indeed, the mud sticks to the club face.

The short game needs to be in great shape to score well on this course, but the course doesn't encourage good shot making around the greens. The turf around the greens is heavy, making it difficult to play precise wedge shots. The greens are small, fast, undulating and well protected with bunkers. Moreover, the bunker sand is often heavy and thin; on one bunker shot, the sole of my wedge bottomed out and bounced into the ball to make an embarrassing bladed shot. The greens are challenging, they're fast and difficult to read.

This course demands precision shot making and a sharp short-game. Bring your best game, but remember the course conditions are not conducive to good shot making around the greens.

Played (at) 3PM for twilight rate. Have never played here before but was impressed with the beautiful layout and very good conditions. Elevation changes and wind affects every shot - - fairways are enormous but there's OB or lost balls beyond them - greens are nice but a bit bumpy. Definitely worth the $.
