I played Spring Valley yesterday with an afternoon tee time. Greens were much much faster this time around. In fact they were probably the fastest greens I’ve been on in the area. They rolled nice and smooth at a medium-fast pace. Everything else was very similar to my previous review. Fairways had some brown areas throughout but still very playable. POP started off nice for the first 8 holes then got very slow. Finished in 4.5 hours.

The course sits on a hillside like others but is still walkable (as I did yesterday) and doesn’t really have any dramatic elevation changes. Overall, it’s a decent course for a decent price.

Not wanting to have a 5 hr round at Coyote Creek, I opted for a new course and decided on Spring Valley. Being my first time here, I came with an open mind. In short it was slightly above average muni conditions. Track layout was fun with a wide variety of hole designs. The total yardage on appearance seems on the shorter side but it’s only a par 70 so in fact it’s a “full distance” course. In fact all of the par 3’s are on the longer side (170-200+ yards).

Greens for the most part are single tier with modest slope. Greens rolled smooth but we’re on the slow side. The odd part was they were slightly on the slow side.

Whereas the fairways didn’t have the wow factor on appearance, they presented a great hitting surface with ample coverage throughout. Rough was also lush with good coverage throughout. Rough was manageable and not too penal

Tee boxes were level and divot free. Course is walkable (as I did) but not for the faint of heart. Course is set on a hillside, so there is a lot of elevation changes. Most transfers are reasonable.
The one major design flaw that kills pace of play is the 9th hole. A fun design with a forces carry over water off the tee. Problem is there’s no bridge across the water so you have to go all the way around the 18th hole (which also has a forced carry over the water). It’s not too bad if you are in a cart but put a few walking groups in and it gets backed up bad as it takes extra time to both go around the lake and wait for people on 18 to tee off before crossing in front of their landing area.

Customer services was excellent. All in all a fun experience and I’m sure I’ll play it again

The photos looked nice but the reviews seemed lackluster so I wasn't sure what to expect. The course fits my game to a tee and I played well so maybe this is a rose colored review. I loved this layout. Its a short(6150tips) compact somewhat tight layout set in a picturesque valley. It has three 300yd par 4 holes and a good mix of medium and stout par 4's and 5's. Fairways were lush with decent roll. Greens were medium fast with tricky breaks. They held high shots but balls hit short would run up. Not sure when the course was built but the greens were somewhat turtle backed. Don't know if that was by design or how they ended up after years of maintenance, but putting had to be given proper attention. Not a lot of bunkers on the course and I wasn't in any but they looked fine. No rakes. The surrounding brown hills were a nice contrast to the green course, I'd like to see it in the spring when it's all green. The negative. Tee boxes were a little slanted and the five par 3's were all about the same distance on the card. They tried to move the tees a bit but 5 different shots would have been perfect. The 2nd hole has an alternate hole and the one not in play looked much more interesting. $24 hot deal time that came with a cart but it seemed very walkable with some elevation change. Tees and greens very close to each other and the course does seem somewhat shoehorned into the site. It doesn't really remind me of anything I have ever played in the area. I highly recommend it and am curious what others think.

First round this morning with ppark81 in a SJ grueling and expensive muni marathon. We had booked the 6:15 tee time and were sent out behind a foursome of regulars. They tried hard to not let us play through, but finally gave in on the 4th hole and we zipped through after that. Couple back nine groups out, but we were able to get around them, as well. Price was a depressing $77 weekend rack rate. I just cannot believe how expensive the low and mid level courses around here are. Too much money and too many people in the Silicon Valley! Course conditions were quite nice overall. Tee boxes and fairways good. Rough thick with good coverage throughout. Greens rolling well at medium speeds. Aeration pretty much healed, just a few minor bumps here and there. I wasn't in any bunkers, but they looked pretty good. The course layout is very much outshined by the surrounding scenery. Almost seems like a wasted opportunity to build a secluded course up in the hills and then design it so plainly. Very forgiving with hardly any trouble to get into. Not many bunkers and only a couple water hazards in play. Otherwise, rather wide open and easy to navigate. The setting is very pretty, though, with the rolling hills and canyons surrounding the course. Inspiring backdrop for what is ultimately an uninspiring layout. The conditions were a plus.

Played here twice recently (November and December). Very consistent in conditions, playablity, experience. A short, fun course in a scenic location. Not long. Good to very good greens - speed a tad slow, but great shape. Matted driving range, good practice greens. Par 3s are all fairly difficult (the second hole has alternating greens - played both liked the down hill one best). Lots of shotmaking opportunities. Fairways leaning toward dormant and roll a ton. Must be very green in the springtime. Mountains all around. No houses on the course. Lots of fun. Nice clubhouse, good bar with friendly patrons and employees. Good course, reasonable rates, not crowded, great location. Check it out.

The course is average almost all ways -- in good shape, but not great; the layout is moderately interesting; the prices are about middle of the road; the pace of play is pretty average as well. The greens *look* good, but have their share of bumps and do not always roll true. Tees and fairways are probably marginally better than most municipal golf courses. The course is not particularly long or difficult and there are only a few notable hazzards. A good beginner's golf course, especially if you can score an internet discount deal.

I got there early this time and got to use the driving range and practice area which is nice. I still say this course is a lot of fun to play and has a few interesting hole for sure. again course mgmt is golden on certain holes as you do not need to drive the ball far. so play smart and you'll have fun for sure...

played the course again today on Friday and while it was packed and seemed like it was slow, we finished in just under 4.5hrs. the greens today were great. and some were really fast. they hold long shots just fine now and putt great as the sand is all gone now. the valley was windy again and this course had only a slight breeze and was perfect for play. the overall course is in great shape right now and is worth the afternoon rate for sure... if you play here course mgmt will reward you every time. cause the rough and off the fairways will only add #s to your score, play smart and you will have a great day. course food is always a bit high and if I give can give you one tip, bring your own food. the price of some of it was a bit high I thought, like 4.50 for a dog...
but on the up side is the clubhouse is HUGE and with 3 TV's on golf you can relax and chat and see some golf too... once again the course played very well and sand is in perfect cond. I know cause from the 2 times I tested it today it was great....lol

got there before 3 and this course got a huge face lift 7yrs ago... and the layout is basically the same, but has better rough now and greens. there's a great practice area and driving range there, with 2 huge putting areas. the club house is huge with banquets up to 200+. The course was in awsome condition and the greens were fast and still a touch firm as they were sanded 3wks ago. as I played the course, I just couldn't help remembering what it use to look like and how its change for the better. the pace of play was really fast, just over 3hrs, and while the valley was windy as hell, this course had but a breeze. the twilight rate was really great too, like 26.00 and only 23.00 after 5pm up there. here's another thing that was just awsome, its in a little valley up there, and there's a park on 2 sides and horse ranch on the other side, ITS QUITE.... no city noise, just wild turkeys gobbling....
the course is fairly wide open and had a good challenge for your game, as it not only lets you rip it, but pays to have good course mgmt too. overall I give this course 4 out of 5 stars. its not pebble, but its a great place to play golf and enjoy the hills, peace and quite...
