Played Sunday, 3oct10 for $46.00 at 9:28am which included cart and lunch. East course is not as well-kept as West as the tee boxes were chopped up, but the fairways were decent and the greens had just healed and were relatively fast. Carts are kinda slow especially up the hills. Pace was fine for us 5 ballers and btw, we use Blue Rock when we have a fivesome as the only other place I know of that allows fivesomes is Alameda. In both cases no walkers but BR will at least give deals and Alameda does not for non-residents. Still think about the Zodiac killing that couple in the parking lot...brrrr. Lunch was included and the grill got a fortuitous bump by installing a deep fryer for fries! Staff is always pretty nice. Not the fanciest place but it's a decent play. Did not see the weird, irate resident couple this time. Whew!

Played September 23rd on a rare beautiful afternoon weather-wise in San Fran. I cut my teeth at Lincoln so I like to play there every once in a while. Fairways were in pretty good condition relatively speaking, i.e. not a sea of dandelions in the fairways. Greens were punched two weeks ago and were weirdly black in color with a lot of bumps, typically slow so just jam it in the hole. Still enjoy the layout and the view on 17 was exceptional today. Too bad this course cannot be redone ala Harding Park. Paid $21 twilight...

Played twilight yesterday. Hadn't played Harding for a few months because so many good deals all over Bay Area. Still love this course because of the classic layout. If you love to draw the ball, this course is for you. Conditions were very muni-like but only because they installed more drainage stuff, etc. getting ready for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in November. No gimmicks here, thank God!

Played 8/24/10-Tuesday-for great rate. Hardly anyone was there early in the am. Warm, beautiful day to play golf. I played here right after it was refurbished and boy was it a carnival ride! This is the first time since then and to my delight, much of the unfair fescue around the bunkers and in the rough is gone. The big donut green at the 10th has been changed from a fun house to a normal green. There was only one goofy green on the back nine. The conditions were great from tee box to green throughout the whole course. We thoroughly enjoyed our round. Driving range is all grass and very private club-like conditions. Carts are peppy and fun to drive. Didn't try the restaurant and bar. Bathrooms could use a facelift though.

Played on Sunday, 8/22/10, paid regular out-of-towner rate; ouch. But...it's been over a year since I played here for maybe only the third time total. The course is well taken care of. From the tee boxes to the fairways, rough and greens, no complaints. I like their bunkers with it's sparkling white sand. Greens were soft (big ball marks) but rolled true and fairly fast. I guess I prefer this type of course. Has some length, some doglegs (left and right), water hazards, and an island green and no gimmicks. Fun to play, good for all skill levels. Weather was great but isn't it always down south. (I live in San Franciscold).

Played 15Aug10 for $39.00. Hadn't played here for awhile because it was pretty ratty the last time I played and I paid a premium rate. But yesterday (Sunday), this course was in surprisingly good condition. Fairways were fairly lush and evenly manicured. The rough was in nice shape too. Never found any bunkers so don't know the condition. Greens were better than average to good. Tee boxes were in good shape too. Course is challenging and course knowledge is very helpful. For the price, this was a good play all around. The 10th hole is a bit unfair too with the two huge trees guarding the fairway 200 yards from the tee.

Played August 8, 2010. Paid $46 for round, cart and meal. Got off on time, first few holes were in decent shape but seemed to deteriorate as the round went on. Many of the tee boxes were severely crowned. Had to go back two club lengths to find fairly flat spot to tee off from. Tee boxes and fairways were for the most part a mixed salad. I swear on one tee box there were five different types of grass or weeds growing together. The East course is just simply a mixed bag of course conditions with a course layout that was shoe horned into the hilly landscape. The greens were aerated so it was difficult to get a rhythm of any sort. But...the hamburger bbq included in this deal was pretty good. No fries but their fryer is coming in the next few weeks. In summary, play the West Course if you can and play the East course only if you get a good deal. Oh yeah, there was a twosome in front who were playing multiple balls and were practicing their chipping at times! Nice guys but bad golf etiquette. Have had bad luck with the course regulars here.

Played last Wednesday, Wild Wed. for only $39.00. Live in the City but for that price, I'll go the extra distance. I have always enjoyed Callippe as everything from the pro shop to the greens are top shelf. Some greens were a bit sandy but still rolled true as can be. Staff is friendly and helpful. Fairways are beautiful, rough is lush and fairly thick but fair. Layout is fun and challenging but not gimmicky. Carts are peppy. Refreshment cart girl was very nice and friendly although she had to cut her day short due to backfiring cart. One of my favs! Wish I lived closer...

The west course is a good course with interesting holes without being gimmicky. Greens were pretty decent but a bit slow. Fairways were also decent with some daisies on some holes. Tee boxes were down-sloping at the tees as we had to play two club lengths back just to find a level lie. We had a fivesome today and as far as I know, Blue Rock and Alameda are the only Bay Area courses to allow it if everyone have carts. We still finished under 4 and a half hours so we were not clogging up the course.

However, there was a man and woman (I am being polite) behind us playing as a twosome. Early in the round, while we were waiting for a foursome to clear the green on a par 3, they came roaring up behind us and the guy slammed on his brakes nearly rear-ending our last cart. They had a privately owned cart so they were regulars at this course. It made such a ruckus that we all looked back to see what the deal was. The man just gave us the stink eye and the woman wasn't exactly laughing either.

One of my buddies mentioned that these two pulled the same crap at the first tee behind some other group. We would have been happy to let them play through but it would not have done them much good as we were just a half hole behind anyway. But after what they did, forget about it!

At the 18th tee box, I saw them approach the 17th green and it was then I realized that I recognized these two people from months ago on the same course following us at that time too. I remembered the lady (again I'm being polite) cursing crudely at us for being too slow. I had given her some of that back at her.

I am just venting because I enjoy Blue Rock West but because I associate the course with these two, I just might wait a little while to play it again which is not fair to BR of course. I play at least 75 times a year and I rarely have any problems like this ever. Oh...except for Gleneagles in San Francisco. I played there maybe 5 times and 3 of those times, I was rudely confronted by a couple of regulars there who think they own the course.

One of the true joys in life is to have a nice round of golf having fun with your buddies while playing competitively too. Those of you who cannot enjoy themselves while golfing should be miserable in private!
