Played the Blues (6597/72.0/136) with Kviser. I was using their B-Day promotion, Kevin was paying full price, so we split it, which turned out to be $50 each. POP was a little under 2H for almost 9 holes. The course was closed after a downpour. We played 2 holes in dry weather, then were rained on for 6+ holes before we got a message on the GPS that the course was closed due to flooding. Before I go into course conditions, the way the Pro Shop attempted to handle the closure was unacceptable. We paid $100 combined to play, they announced the course was closed after our drives on #9, yet they only wanted to offer a $30 rain check? To make matters worse, he only wanted to offer 1 rain check for $30, not split it between the 2 of us. He explained that there was no rain check for a reduced rate B-Day round. He finally offered one $40 rain check to Kevin, and Kevin was nice enough to pay me a few bucks to make up most of the difference. They had no problem charging both our credit cards $50 each, yet they cannot make out 2 rain checks for 1/2 each the amount due? Plus, you have to haggle with them to get them to honor 1/2 the fee paid by the full paying customer when THEY determine the course is closed and you got in less than 1/2 a round? Needless to say, the customer service was as poor as the weather. The tees were fairly lush, thick poa annua with most divots properly maintained. The fairways were firm even with the rain and cut close. more thin than lush. The rough is also mowed down close in most spots. You usually get good lies in the rough here. It is penal because it won't stop errant shots before they reach a red hazard. The sand traps were very nicely maintained with good quality sand. The big, undulating greens putt smooth and medium fast. They hold well struck irons, but you are not backing anything up substantially on these greens unless you are on a slope because of their firmness. Big, beautiful clubhouse. Enjoy this layout, many fun holes. Only Nicklaus course in L.A. County, the layout, conditions and difficulty are all usually well above average. However, recommended only if you can get a deal, $80 to play on a weekday @ 4 pm is way too much.

Played with a buddy today. He lives in West La and i live in Monterey Park and it took us 30 mins to meet here for 958 am tee time. Greens have little small holes punched and did not affect roll, but crusty and running at 9.5/10. Fairways were dry. Tight lies even on well struck tee shots in middle of fairway. Rough was not penal, but hazards lurk everywhere on this course. Sand traps were hardpan and tee boxes were average. 4 hour pace was pleasant. Overpriced at $85/ round.

I think this is one of my favorite courses in southern California. It has everything I love when getting out. There are no homes, pace of play is at always great, conditions are almost always great, the views are fantastic, and the design is always fun with many risk reward holes and a good short game is a must. I would play here more often if they had more $50 deals but forking out $85 is just tough for me. I will treat myself whenever I can though!

Played on Friday 3/25 as a twosome with a 1:42 tee time for $50 each thanks to GN. Got there around 1:15 and checked in nobody was on the tee box, but was told that we needed to wait for our tee time before heading out (kind of sucked but whatever). Other than that I thought the service was good. Only saw the cart girl once, and it was on the 5th green, would have been nice to see her on the back nine also.

POP was right around 4 1/2 hours after catching a threesome on hole 6, that was being held up by a twosome of women that seemed like they were doing more talking than golfing. I don't know what happened to them on the back nine, unless a couple of groups let them play through. There was also a backup at the 18th tee of two other groups that slowed things down dramatically but only for the last hole.

First time to the course and boy what a great looking course, but one that you really need to play a few times first to be able to score well.

The greens putted true, but weren't to quick. I would think that they are usually a little faster just by they way they played, but having never been there before maybe that is just there normal speed. They seemed very firm, and you wanted to land short of the hole otherwise you would just be at the back of the green.

Sand was soft and fluffy and nice to play out of. Fairways were tight, but had a great lies and gave plenty of roll. Tee boxes were all in great condition with a few of the tees boxes mostly par 3's having to find a spot to tee from due to divots.

Overall, the conditions are nice, and for the $50 rate I would return. With that being said I don't think I would ever pay the normal rack rate, as coming from Ventura County and having all the courses up there in the fantastic condition they are in the conditions of this course weren't that much better.

Must have Just missed Nickesquire out here Saturday. Everything he says is true. Played the blacks for the first time ever here today. Besides playing just 10 minutes behind pace it took about 4.5 hours to finish. Had a great time and the course is in excellent playing shape. Not the prettiest right now but compared to every other public course in LA it is in great shape. Fairways were perfect to hit off of. Greens were fast and smooth. Service from before the pro shop and after the last hole is lacking imho compared to other courses that charge fees as high as they do here. Also a pet peeve is courses that charge more than $80 a round charging for range balls as they do here. At least you are hitting off of grass. Great place to practive if you need to work on your short game though. If you're in LA and don't mind dropping over $100 a round this is the place to play.

Out running errands and received a call to potentially fill out a 4some when a members buddy canceled. Went from not planning on playing to on the 1st tee in 38 minutes! Played the Blues (6597/72.0/136). POP was good, 4H, 10M. The weather was in the high 60's, overcast, fairly calm and it was just beginning to sprinkle as I was leaving. I appreciate this layout more with each visit. After having not played here in years, lowered or tied my personal best here 3 straight rounds. IMO, the layout, conditions and difficulty are all well above average. The tees were thick poa annua with most divots properly maintained. Fairly lush, nice to play off of. The fairways produce large bounces and lots of roll. Tough to call them lush even though they have excellent coverage, they play much better than they look. I find them really good to hit irons and fairway metals off of, just enough of a cushion but still mowed close and firm. They are also more generous in size than many appear from the tee. Several holes look tighter than they actually are. However, there is still plenty of native area red hazards lurking just off every hole, usually on both sides to keep you in line. The rough is also mowed down close in most spots. You usually get good lies in the rough here. Not a huge amount of traditional "rough" on this layout, you miss the fairways by much and you are in the native area, + 1 to your scorecard. The sand traps were nicely maintained with good quality sand. While they are not overly severe faces, I have had 2 shots I could not advance directly toward the hole in 3 rounds here because I either was too close to the lip or had stance issues. Sand quality higher in green side traps than fairway traps. The greens are big, firm and putt medium fast, pretty smooth. I average over 3 more putts per round on this course than my average for all courses. Subtle crests and breaks. The amount of times I don't even get the direction of the break correct, much less how much break there is happened at least once every round here this week. The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered. Drink cart out making the rounds. Recommended = Definitely yes.

I had a 1:34 time out here today but arrived about an hour early and they sent me straight to the tee to join a twosome. Another single eventually joined us during the front nine, and overall we had minimal waits all day, finishing in exactly 4:30. Surprisingly quick for a Friday afternoon!

Conditions are pretty good. The greens look like they've been micro punched at some point somewhat recently, but it doesn't affect putts at all. They are fast, mostly smooth and held full shots well, although I wouldn't call them soft. Fairways are dry, firm and give lots of roll. They are light green and very tight with good coverage. Rough was a little clumpy here and there but never too deep. The sand quality in the bunkers was good, but I knocked them down a few rating points because they nearly all had rocks in them. Tee boxes were very good, nice and firm, cut short with very consistent coverage.

This was my first time playing the course and I wasn't overly impressed. I definitely am glad I played with Forelinx rather than paying rack rate. First of all, it was very hazy most of the afternoon, causing the course to struggle to come to life visually. = The light green fairways and numerous ESA areas all just looked sort of blah. Those weather conditions also contributed to me feeling a sense of "sameness" throughout much of the design. It felt more like a Ted Robinson course to me than a Nicklaus Design group course. To the designers' credit, they did a good job of making the borders of holes deceiving in that they often look like they are tighter and more punitive than reality. The routing is also kind of funky and possibly unsafe, as several places find you driving your cart very close or directly into to the line of play of the group in front of you. Back to the positive side, one design element I really liked was the mounding in front of the 10th green, leading to a green that seems to actually run away from the approach shot. The par-5 13th also had interesting mounding in the green surrounds, creating a green that felt like it was positioned lower than all other parts of the hole. The whole course feels very exposed, and the wind kicked up around our 7th hole and persisted pretty much the remainder of the round. Service-wise, I definitely appreciated them getting me out early, and there were many marshalls out and about. The carts have nice GPS to the pin, although they are set to vacillate between 10 mph and 12 mph max speed, which is sort of annoying because it tended to switch back and forth quite often. All in all, I liked the course but went into the round hoping and expecting to like it much more than I did. I'd like to revisit on a clear, sunny day when those nearby mountains would look much more appealing.

Enjoy this layout, many fun holes. Only Nicklaus course in L.A. County, the layout, conditions and difficulty are all well above average. The tees were fairly lush, thick poa annua with most divots properly maintained. The fairways were firm and cut close, producing lots of roll. Can't really call them lush even though they have excellent coverage. Some of the best fairways to hit irons off of that I have played in my last 30+ rounds. The rough is also mowed down close in most spots. You usually get good lies in the rough here. It is penal because it won't stop errant shots before they reach a red hazard. The sand traps were very nicely maintained with good quality sand. The big, undulating greens hold well struck irons, but you are not backing anything up substantially on these greens unless you are on a slope. They putt firm and medium fast. The ball rolls well, but I personally have more issues with these greens than most because of lots of subtle breaks. Big, beautiful clubhouse. The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered, particularly Chris in the Pro Shop. Drink cart out making the rounds. Recommended = Definitely.

Played the Blues (6597/72.0/136) in 2H, 45M as a single using Forelinx. The weather was in the 60's, overcast and almost completely still for most of the round. First time I have played here in over 5 years. I had forgot the slope rating was this high from the Blues. The course is fairer and more forgiving now that they have added wood chips and instituted a free drop in many areas that were previously marked as ESA/mandatory penalty stroke. Excellent change both from a POP and from a fairness perspective IMO. The tees were mostly lush, thick poa annua with most divots already properly maintained. The fairways were firm and cut close, producing lots of roll. No bare areas and most divots were filled in. The rough was also mowed down. While it is nice to play off of IF your ball actually stops in it mowed this low, it brings penalty strokes into play because the ball will often roll through the rough into a red hazard here. All the sand traps I was in were very nicely maintained with good quality sand. The big, undulating greens were firm and medium fast. The lack of rough around the greens made all kinds of low shots, including putting from well off the green a viable possibility here. Big, beautiful clubhouse. The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered. No drink cart during my round, it was just getting out as I was leaving. Only Nicklaus course in L.A. County, the layout, conditions and difficulty are all well above average. Recommended = Yes.
