Out early done early. 2.5 H. Even with the lazy back 9 players. I would suggest that L V either cut off back 9 play earlier than 7 AM or make all groups of 5 take a cart. As well as marshal the back 9 so that players making the turn in 2 hours or less, don't end up playing the back 9 in 2 hours plus. It is very easy for the regulars in the first 2/3 groups to play the front in 2 or less hours. They should not be forced to find a bottle neck on the back 9 when they make the turn. Not too mention that because the clubhouse cannot see the 18th green/10th tee, players who play 9 are going back and playing it again, after finishing the 18th hole. I know this because 2 players who checked in to play back 9 before 7 AM were still on the back 9 on 14 when I was coming up 13. I am pretty certain it did not take them 2 hours to play 4 holes (and I played through them and mentioned that fact). Found the course to be in some of the best condition I have seen it in the many years I have been playing the course. The tee boxes are very nice. Fairways have great grass coverage (all of them so they must have listened to Stew) and provide very good lies and roll out. Traps were all raked and playable. There is rough outside of many fairways that will cause you to look for your ball and make it difficult to play out of. Greens were in terrific shape. They had speed, chipped/putted beautifully all round. Customer service was excellent at all levels. Highly recommended, but play early. Beautiful day on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Was able to get a am time as a single at LV on a previous day call, my bad for waiting but it worked out. PoP right at 4hrs. Have not been here for some time but since I've played here for a couple decades now I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Good: the greens are excellent Poa, cut perfectly and rolling true. No complaints. The new bar/restaurant looks like a nice place to hang out, too. Bunkers rate up there, too. Good sand and taken care of, good to see.
The Bad: fairways are mostly green and playable with some patchy stuff to negotiate. But some fairways are downright terrible (ie. #2, 9, & 18) and it's a shame nothing has been done about it.
The Ugly: anywhere off the fairway. Wire grass has doubled ... the 'rough' is either overgrown Kikuyu or the more prevalent hard pan. Oh, yeah, they allow five-somes which contributes to the slow PoP here.

Recommended if you can get out early and can keep the ball in the fairway. After all, $30 walking is hard to beat.

Played 8/28 just after 1pm. Course was not as busy as usual, but still lots of people. Surprised tee times were running little ahead of schedule. Got paired up with 2 other single walk-ons and enjoyed the round. Little bit of waiting on each hole, especially holes 2-5, but as usual it opened up with minimal waiting from #6 (par 5) onward. POP was little less than 5.5 hours, slow but not too bad for LV standards if you are not teeing before 9:30 a.m. I enjoyed the company and played in beautiful 75 degree weather with some 10mph wind that settled down to very light ocean breeze after the turn. The tee box was level with minimal divots. Fairways were good for the most part with some brown spots, but too much crabgrass especially near the edges as you get closer to roughs. Crabgrass is my biggest complaint and knock on LV other than slow POP. Roughs can be penal in some parts with tall grass and bare hard pan in others. Greens were nice and running medium but fast downhill, but had lots of unrepaired pitch marks (not LV's fault) and I usually fixed about 5 pitch marks per each green. Shame on you fellow golfers for not repairing your divots on the green! I enjoyed my round, as usual at LV, if you can stomach the POP.

Ahh, such a love/hate with Los Verdes. Love the course, conditions are probably the best in years, but it took over 3 hours to finish playing the front yesterday. But... I’ve also experienced sub 2 hours 9’s here in the late afternoons. Played yesterday with a buddy at 3:22pm. Walked off #9 green at 6:30pm. Didn’t have time to play the back. Like I mentioned above, conditions are great. Tee boxes mostly flat. Fairways in great shape. Rough was your average LA County muni. Good in some spots, a little patchy in others. Bunkers we even decent. Good sand in the 4 or 5 I was in. The greens were great. Fast downhill, fast uphill (yes, I said that correctly), and always breaking to the ocean. Beautiful surroundings, nice ocean breezes....where’s that heat wave like across the nation? Only negative is POP, and it’s an extremely large negative.

I plated Los Verdes on Sunday, teeing off at about 7:30. It was really nice to get away from the blazing heat of the last week and visit the much more comfortable coastal cloud cover on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Conditions have been consistently good this year at Los Verdes. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens are really good for a county course. The bunkers have the lighter white sand, which is USUALLY deep enough to hit a confident blast shot.

As always, there are a couple ever-present problems. Pace of play wasn't good (over five hours with a 7:30 tee time). There is also a ton of cow grass just off some of the fairways, and many exposed tree roots if one strays into the forest.

Customer service is great. Everyone I came in contact was cheerful and upbeat. Los Verdes is a fun golf course with beautiful views ... and it won't empty your wallet.

Sad to not see the old familiar faces from so many years in the Pro shop. The personal service these days is not the same IMO and the learning curve needs to improve. My compliments to the maintenance crew on the great conditions. And to think, Janice Hahn wants to turn this spectacular course into a park?

Every time I play here I am blown away that I can play on this course for $16.50 considering the views, and quality of the course. Staff as always was great and getting out early eliminates the pace of play concerns. Best deal in Southern California (At least for seniors)

Bare, patchy, or long enough to loose balls in. Tough if you can't shape your tee shots to your advantage based on the fairway slopes. Only in one bunker, groomed with plenty of sand. Great deal, well worth the green fee. Would play more, but tough to get to.....

Agree with 24hourgolf's recent review. Los Verdes is looking good. Greens rolled well, fairly quick and receptive. Fairways as good as I've seen them. The rough still sucks, so if you can play the slopes properly and stay out of it, all is fine. Bunkers were good, but struggled from them today.

Beautiful overcast gray morning, easy to play golf in. No issues with back nine play, perhaps because our walking foursome was kinda slow, took a touch over three hours . Nice to be finished well before 9am.
