Played here 07/22/24 and the course conditions are great. The greens are smooth and are rolling great. Fairways are in great shape and ball sitting up nicely. I play midweek so it's a good pace and finished around 4 1/4 hours. Definitely get out here, all is excellent.

It did this time, though. Checking in there were no signs indicating unusual course conditions. Out on the course, ALL greens were punched OR being punched during play. They planted the flag stick short of a couple of greens. Didn't bother to mow the grass tight. Just stuck a cup in the ground. Complete and utter BS! Not sure how long it will take for the greens to recover but the punches were not the normal type. More like slits instead of hole punches.

I have always thought of Recreation Park as one of my favorite municipal courses to play. While certainly not the best or most difficult of the Long Beach courses, it is just a fun relaxing track. Used to play here quire often when I lived in Westchester, but now living in Orange County, coupled with the cost now to play here, just don't have the desire to play here much anymore.

Last review was very accurate, although I did not find the greens all that inconsistent. Slower than I expected. Fairways were generally OK, some thin spots, but not a big deal. Only in one bunker and while it was rather thin as to the amount of sand, not an issue. Played early, so pace was reasonable, which has always been the case here. (But that's true probably everywhere) Enjoyed the round, and miss playing here, but given the distance from home and the prices now, only get out here on rare occassions

Weekend round with Mattias at Rec Park and found the course to be in pretty good shape overall. The weather was not as nice as hoped for but luckily the course conditions were good enough to overcome that.

We had a 1:20pm tee time and played from the blue tees. Ordered online with carts late but we both walked and were happy with the starter who gave us the walking rate and didn't lock us in to the cart rate - well done. Driving range is pretty odd but functional. Very old mats and balls.

Fairways were in good shape with the occasional thin areas out and about. The rough was not thick enough to be penal but there are a few areas to get in trouble here. Bunkers were pretty thin and didn't look too great, while the tee boxes were mostly okay - flat and level. Greens were running very inconsistently from hole to hole but in good shape in terms of coverage. There are few tricky greens here but most are pretty manageable. Lines and shots held pretty well but again, inconsistent speeds made them more difficult than they should be.

We had cart service come around a few times which was great, but the POP started off amazing as we never waited on a single hole until the par 4 6th where everything came to a grinding halt and we were two groups behind. This lasted throughout much of the rest of the round which was disappointing after such a nice start. Ultimately we played in just under five hours.

Rec Park is certainly the most 'Muni' of all the Long Beach courses but it's still fun on its day and I would give it a recommendation right now.

I never saw a dry of bad part of the fairway and the course overall is in great shape. Looking forward to coming here next week.

Played Rec 18 yesterday morning with some buddies.

Check in was excellent. Rosie is always a pleasure to deal with. They had a bowl of Halloween candy for patrons.

Check in was excellent. Rosie is always a pleasure to deal with. They had a bowl of Halloween candy for patrons.

Sadly, the course is in rough shape. The greens were punched earlier this month, but coverage was spotty and bumpy and running at 8. The course was soaked; mud everywhere. Fairways had decent coverage, but they were punching them so it was a muddy mess. Tee boxes need work and sand traps were average. POP was 4.15 minutes. Lots of locals roaming the grounds on early tee times. Will return in the summer and when other courses are overseeding, but course is just average shape right now.

Greens are recovering nicely from their punching and putted nicely considering. Rough is up like everywhere else. Fairways in good shape but not cut down too much. Less rollout than usual. I would not shy away from playing here if you have an opportunity.

Probably my favorite of the Long Beach courses. Certainly not the most difficult or challenging, but just a fun course to walk and enjoy. I must admot that I found the course to be in worse condition than I have come to expect from Rec Park. The greens did not roll as smoothly as normal and were slower than usual. Numerous bare spots in the fairways and many of the tee boxes were chewed up. For the amount of $$ they charge to play here, you would think conditions would be better.

Played this morning. The course is in ok shape right now. Amazing what a little rain does. The greens are slightly on firm side but held shots well, medium speed pretty smooth. Whole lotta unrepaired ... Continue »

Played this morning. The course is in ok shape right now. Amazing what a little rain does. The greens are slightly on firm side but held shots well, medium speed pretty smooth. Whole lotta unrepaired ball marks tho. Around the fringe and fairways are typical muni, nice mostly with some bare spots. Rough is longer version of the fairway with slightly more bare spots. Tee boxes were heavily used. Lots of dirt patches. Bunkers were ok. Good amount of sand in most of them but no one rakes their footprints.
