Excellent course. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in excellent condition. Tee boxes are very lush and level. Fairways are very lush and provide good lies. Greens are very smooth and fast. Sand is loose and white. Excellent for explosion shots. The practice facility is outstanding. Hitting from grass. Several practice putting greens, that are consistent with the speed of the course's greens. Chipping area also. A challanging track with many well placed bunkers, water, and OB every where. Fairways tend to be narrow to average. A beautiful desert style course. Primarily flat. Ball placement is a must. No room for error. Recommended only for better players. The best in the city. Bring your A+ game. GPS on carts was excellent.

Worth about $60, not $120. Environmental areas too penal for hackers. If you can't hit it 100 yards in the air off the tee then don't play here. My hacker buds suffered about a dozen balls each. The rough isn't thick enough to stop a well hit ball from rolling into the environmental restricted area (lateral hazard).

GPS carts were nice, and the beer cart was there whenever we wanted.

Greens were true, smooth, very firm and very undulating. Couldn't get anything to stop dead on the green, but roll up was almost always an option.

Fast pace...we played in 4:10 and the GPS was bugging us about falling behind. Part of the fast pace is due to not allowing anyone to look for balls hit outside the grassy areas.

Keep this one on your radar players. ANGC has the makings of a great public facility. I really don't mind spending the extra cash when a staff member is ready to cater to almost my every need. But ... Continue »

Keep this one on your radar players. ANGC has the makings of a great public facility. I really don't mind spending the extra cash when a staff member is ready to cater to almost my every need. But the trailer has to go, and the Andy gumps although I
have to admit are the best Andy Gumps I have ever had the displeasure to use. I just received a promo card because I played during the week to come back in May either the 6th, 7th, 8th. or 14th for $55 btwn 11am and 1:50pm. Its a steal. No advanced fee apply, I guess they think there will be alot of play. So book your time and play once during the week and get the $55 rate coupon. I heard they are Aerifing May 27th.

a] Customer service is perfect. I sat at the check in table for over an hour and observed the same commitment from the staff for all players- GK event or no. Hustling late arrivers to #1; shuttling golfers down to the range- very supportive.
b] The layout of the course is not too difficult- as long as you are not cutting across the ball as I was and pull hooking 75% of your shots. 2nd time out I'm certain golfers will figure out where to land the approach for shorter putts- and yes I'll go back out there.
c] If a Santana wind is blowing- best to add min +5 strokes to your goal. The course was down that day. However, it sits in a wind funnel along the 210 and butts up the mountains. With an east wind, it'll be a dervish.

Glad for the chance to finally get to ANCC- it's reputation preceded and actually exceeded my expectations.

Angeles National, you're a great course; let me count the ways. . . Ten for Greens. They are tricky, roll true but boy you need to know how to run that ball up. Aggressive shots are rarely rewarded. Run up and be happy you're playing percentage golf. Ten for fairways, it's green and lush; not a thin spot in sight. Even the Rough (Ten Also) is thick and sticky but can and does hold a ball running off the green -- just beware of the ESA. Course is in brilliant shape. Not much change from view to view but honestly course conditions at this moment are for lack of a better word -- fabulous. Thanks to the GK staffers that helped out in the event. Thanks to Cheryl and Bud who helped keep out merry band moving. Thanks to the all the staff of ANGC that made this even possible. Good value golf for playing during the week. Great and soon to be greater staff/facilities with their clubhouse scheduled to be up by October 2008. Can't wait until then. Oh yeah be sure if you land in a waste area that you can ground your club but more imporantly expect the ground to be thin so be sure to swing through.

Angeles National on April 10th, first day of the Masters 2008, and I was so glad I played this very challenging course which made me really appreciate what the PGA Tour goes through at Agusta National. (Well... In my mind it was... :=) )

I've only played this course one other time and this time I believe that the course conditions were as good as a course can be! Angeles National out did themselves and are very impressive with their crew routine.

True, this is a type of course, you need to keep it in play at all times or the stride of pace might take a bit of a hiccup.

Part with the ball if this happens and stay focus in the game and best to enjoy the day. That's just sort of an Angeles National way!

This course is not one to take a grudge on, however, it is one to challenge again... ....and again ....and again!

Test it yourself in its current great conditions! You'll see...

As soon as you we arrived, we were treated in such a courteous manner, bags were carried to our cart, and they informed us of our tee time as well as directed us to the practice facility.

Practice facility: As described by Steve663, this is one of the best practice areas I have ever practiced on...the range had great target areas to work on your short game, great chipping greens, and "super fast" greens to work on your putting stroke.

Tee Box & Fwy: The tee boxes were spectacular, other golf courses should take notes and place small "collection" tee containers for those who always seem to throw their tees on the tee box area. The fairways were lush, gave you lots of roll (I was averaging 260 yds with my 3i off the tee on the short par 4s), and I didn't see any bare spots at all. Long hitters, "LEAVE YOUR DRIVER IN THE BAG", this course is very penal due to ESA areas so you must have good course management and play "target" golf. Otherwise, expect your scores to climb up quickly.

Greens & Traps: The greens were very fast, probably a 10-12 on the stimp...the pin placements were very tough and it was difficult to hold the ball on these greens as they weren't very receptive unless you hit a nice high fade (a la Jack Nicklaus). Three putts were very easy to add to your reportoire of shots on this course, so my advice is adjust to the speed of the greens on the practice green area if your short on time prior to your tee time. Found only (1) bunker and the sand was plentiful, as a matter of fact it had too much soft sand....my ball buried in the trap allowing me to only see about 20% of the ball.

Staff: The staff went above and beyond my expectations, they were very friendly, really treated us as VIPs (something that lacked at Trump National), and the hostess Sheryll is very beautiful and someone I'd like to go play a few rounds of golf with instead of being stuck with OSCA1961 for 5 hours..LOL...I was very impressed with the staff. I'm not sure when the clubhouse will be finished, but the design looks spectacular.

As other GKers have mentioned, course knowledge (this was my first time here) is definitely a must if you want to play well. I'll be back now that I'm somewhat familiar with the lay out.

First time, maybe last time. Agree with most of previous postings, However, I had a good day of ball striking and got nothing out of it. Greens while fast and smooth and very tricky are like concrete right now. Hit them anywhere near the pin and you will be long in the rough,,, Bunkers were filled with new sand, beware,, dont go in there, you might loose your shoes. Great layout,, great customer service, but not very enjoyable for my first time. Its not that hard,, but,, very frustrating approach shots. Not recommended for high hdcprs.... I will return, but not for awhile.
