Got on as a single for the second week in a row on a Friday at ElDo, same results: it took about one hour between putting my name on the waiting list 6:20 and teeing off 7:15 ... perfect amount of time to hit a small bucket off the grass (Fri-Sun), bump a few balls on their well-cared-for practice chipping green, and roll some putts on one of two huge practice greens. What a gorgeous day and the course is close to the best I've EVER seen it. Two months or so away from the LB Open, so things are getting green, even the patchy rough. Greens are rolling faster (my guess is a solid 10, I hear they want them at 13 for the Open) and just near flawless. Bunkers are supurbly maintained, not a footprint to be found. Super is doing a great job, my compliments. Highly recommended. POP today was a leisurly 4.5 hours, and not a coot to be seen.

Friday tee time at 11:30a- makes sense it'll be a long day. But after teeing off 30 minutes late we made the turn in 3 hrs and continued on that pace for the remainder of the day...that's simply unacceptable. We think we saw a Marshall once but he was driving like he was late for dinner. Now that said, the weather was awesome and the greens were as good as I've seen on a muni course in years. Overall, this course is in great shape.

It's been over a month since the last ElDo review and the course has improved tremendously, especially the poa greens ... they are near flawless right now, cut short and rolling nice and quick. I put my name on the waiting list at 6:30 and teed off at 7:30 with a group of very friendly gentlemen, then played a 4:40 round with lot's of waiting on the front but smooth sailing on the back. Fairways are a typical muni mixture of grass types but the only bad lies I found were when I was in a fairway divot (it happened twice, not cool), rough was cut to 2", bunkers excellent ... just a nice Spring day in Long Beach. A bit pricey for a Friday, paid $40 non-res to walk, but no complaints. Recommended. Oh, and here's a shocker: I only saw 3 Coots on the entire course! They must have sent them all to Lakewood.

Played a few weeks ago and had an enjoyable day. Got off on Sunday morning about 25 minutes behind but hit some balls and putted around a bit which we didnt mind too much. I've played this course a few times throughout the year and each time it's in different condition. Greens are consistently good being poa, but fairways, rough and sand conditions just depend on when you go. Overall a solid course with a classic layout which is very fun. For a Sunday we spent a little over 4 1/2 hours for pace which was great knowing this place can get ery crowded. I did notice they trimmed some trees especially on Hole #1 which always was in my way! Will return soon.

Got out first on twilight Wed. afternoon at ElDo on the first day of Spring ($25 walking, non-res) with a couple buds and they added a single to our group. Got off with no holdups and breezed thru in under 4 hours. Half the greens were punched last week, so that side was a tad slow, but the unpunched side was tight Poa that was not holding great and a bit grainy, still rolled okay, no complaints there. Fairways still thin and dry, some bare spots, and rolling out big time ... I was feeling like a pro with some drives in places I've not reached before. Rough was not recently cut and 3-4" deep ... my bud was a bit off target and couldn't find two errant shots. The light/soft sand in the bunkers is settling a bit but still a challenge to play from. Altogether, the course is coming along from a tough winter ... if they could get the fairways back in shape (and after the greens heal from aeration) it should be okay to return.

Teed off at about 7:40 this morning. Unfortunately, we had a 7:16 tee time. Pace of play was okay. There were a lot of people on the course as is typical on the the Saturday before Super Bowl. The course conditions were ragged. The greens were fast but unfortunately bumpy. They are obviously doing firm and fast conditions, with the fairways shaved and and the very firm and fast greens. They probably should roll the greens if they are going to do that though, to make them more true. The fast and true greens used to be what I loved about this course but that was not the situation today. They are more firm than I recall them ever being.

A two-some joined us including a guy I used to occasionally play with when Long Beach courses would have the first four tee times play off the waiting list. A shout out to Jim, it was fun playing with him again. He was eloquently displeased with the course conditions.

As to details, the tee boxes were the worst. A lot of mud. The fairways were shaved with some bare spots although I was not in many. The ball really ran out there. I hit a good drive on #5, but not that good. The sand traps have fluffy beach sand and are tough. The new sand in them seems to drain better so the sand is not as tough in the morning as it used to be. The rough is cut fairly low so it is not as punitive as it was back in the day. They have cut trees down to speed up play along with trimming others, making the foliage not as punitive as it once was.

Pace play was about 4.5 hours. Nice day on the course with a good group of guys.

Hi. I played golf on Monday at El Dorado in Long Beach. I decided to take my dad to play golf on the holiday. We found the course to be in TERRIBLE condition. The fairways has dirt patches everywhere, the tee boxes were awful, and the greens were as bumpy as could be. It made our day miserable to be paying for what was clearly subpar conditions for golf. He is from out of town and couldn't believe the lack of course maintenance. Maybe American Golf should someone from the Management team play on that course and see what he/she thinks. Then maybe they will spend some money to fix it up :). I won't be playing there again anytime soon.

Played Weds the 16th in my GK cup match against lotrgolf48, Matt under sunny skys and finally a warm day in So Cal. The day was great, the course-MMM-not the best. I do have to say the greens were as good as I have ever seen at this course and very fast. They were in great shape and rolled true and were very fun. The rest of this track is in need of a little love. The Sand was good, but balls were plugging, but at least there was sand in them. The tee boxes were dirt-no grass, Fairways, which I didn't see much were thin and fast and had a lot of bare spots and places which should have been marked GUR, but were not. Rough was not there except some scragly patches of grass here and there. Love this layout and track and the greens made it worth the fee, but I can't wait for the frost to go away so courses can start growing grass again.

Played a GK Cup match today with Fasteddieboy. Teed off about 9:00 on a cold clear day. The course conditions were fast and firm. The greens were as firm as I have seen them. Unfortunately for pretty fast greens, they were also bumpy. They used to have tractors rake the traps in the morning but it was obvious that has not been done for a while. The heavy sand was fairly packed down for this course and was not a bad surface. The fairways were close cut and pretty brown. It looked like they were not watering parts of the course, including parts of 11 and 18 fairways. The rough was there but was not long. Winter conditions with some bare spots in fairway and rough. Some of the tees were also bare of grass. They cut down some of the trees on the right side of the second shot landing area on 10 which helped me but I still hit a lousy shot. Other trees on various holes looked like they had been heavily trimmed. Enjoyable round with fair to poor conditions for this course.
