Started at 2 p.m. as a single walk-on at reasonable senior rate. Pace was decent today, about 4 3/4 hours. Fairways freshly mowed, only a few bad spots from cart damage, or bare patches. Greens also rolled true, except No. 13 chewed up on left side where flag located. Rough was gnarly, punitive trying to hack out. Sand in bunkers hard from recent overnight rain; saw big puddle in one trap. On No. 17, looks like bunker on left side is being expanded or grass being resod? Front half may be playing as waste area. Flat course makes for good walk.

Played behind A tournament today. Took over 5 hours to play the round. Just could not get a rhythm going because I was hitting and waiting, more waiting than hitting. Otherwise the course was great. If you have a wayward driving day, trees will punish you. Greens were good, held shots and had just the right amount of speed. Enjoyed the course but not the wait.

Played 5/16 and pretty much walked right on as a single. Might have just been my luck day, but the staff was really cool. I got out out in about 5 mins after showing up. Played with a 2 some and another single. This was my first time playing this course, so as first appearances go it was in great shape for be a public course. Plays like Malibu Country Club in that it is a narrower course as well as some blind tee shots. If you ended up in the trees you were punching out to the fairway. Most of the tee boxes were level, lush and firm for the tees to set in. Fairways were in good shape and ran fast. If you kept your tee shot in the short grass it ran very well. Rough was a little thick in spots. and thin in others. This is not a course that I would want to walk again while carry my bag. Long walks to a couple of tee boxes. I would either get a cart or push/pull cart. I would recommend this course to anyone who is passing through Long Beach or lives near by. Better course than Big Rec.

First time playing last Tuesday - and I thought it was a pretty good course. Greens were definitely the most memorable part of the course. They were in EXCELLENT condition. Aerated about 3 weeks ago - and regulars there say it's the best time to play them.
I drive by the course often, but never stopped to play. Looks flat and assumed it was not that difficult, but you have to stay in the fairway. All the holes are lined with trees, and if you find yourself under one, it will cause problems for your card. Gotta think, not for your average hacker.
Tee boxes were ok, 2 of the tee boxes on par 3s are still playing forward.
Could have used some marshals out there. 4 ladies were behind about 1.5 holes. I waited for 2 groups backed up on the 10th, tee'd off, and was already driving up to the 10th green when the ladies were teeing off at the 18th - with NOBODY in front of them the whole time I was on the 10th! If they kept up, it could have been a 4hr round!
Certainly would play again - LB seniors with the card certainly get great deals though... it'll be a while for me!

Got out at just after 7am and finished at 10:30am. Awesome pace. Here's why...all the par 3 tee boxes except for #17 are being renovated so you'll be hitting off makeshift tee boxes in the fairways. Greens are still bumpy from recent aeration and putts will not hold their line. Haven't played El Do in a while but still had a good time. Call the course to see when tee box renovations are completed....I forgot to ask.

Played El Dorado for my first time 03/30/09 because of an every other course in Long Beach was backed up. The green fee was also a great deal. I didn't know as it turns out they were aerating greens thus the low crowd and low fee. The starter didn't warn me of this. Dang, I should have checked on GK first. The tee boxes were nice for par 4 & 5 holes but hacked up on the par 3s. the fairways were fair to good I would chalk up to the recent rains the week before. The greens were crap due to the maintenance. My group couldn't play holes 4-7 because they were aerating and the workers didn't let us play thru. On the 4th hole the worker aerating with a tractor looked to have pulled off the green, stopped and got out of the tractor. We thought he was going to let us play the hole so we hit up onto the green. As we approached the green we see him kick all 4 of our balls clear off the green into the green side bunker and started up his tractor and began aerating. Wow I have never seen this before. I have had greens keepers stop and let me play through and then resume their work. I have also had them wave me off a green and politely tell me that the green is closed but never had my ball kicked. The rest of the holes 8-19 were fine except of course for the greens. On 3 other holes the a hole was cut and the flag placed on a makeshift green cut into the fringe in front of the green but was not puttable. Over all it was a bad experience for a first time there but it was my fault for not checking GK first for maintenance alerts and skipping El Dorado till maintenance was completed. I might try El Dorado again in the future to see if all the work and rudeness on the greens have gotten better.

I played here with a buddy on Monday, 4/6/09. We got out a little before 1pm and finished our round in about 4 hours. Granted they just aerated the greens last week which could have been the reason for the light traffic. Greens were still quite bumpy and slow, but the rest of the course was in great condition. We walked the course as a twosome and didn't run into the next group until the 12th hole who kindly let us pass through. A nice classic layout with plenty of trees, doglegs and a few water holes that make for an enjoyable round.

Course was in good shape today, but I guess they are aerating starting Monday. This course is always fun, played from the back tees and you really have to work the ball with some of the trees, which makes for a fun day. Bunkers in good shape and greens hard and fast,but a little bumpy. Always like this layout but it is always crowded and a little slow because it gets so much play. Another fun track in the long beach area.

played only 9 holes fri 3/27. greens were really good(last time maybe 8 months ago i played here the greens were slow and bumpy). conditions were great overall. sand was soft, fairways rough were good. tee boxes were excellent. i was surprised how well maintained it was. keep your tee shots in the fairway unless u like punching out of the treelined rough!!
