Teed off at 7:40am on Thursday (4/22) as a foursome. We teed off right on time. The round took exactly 4 hours to complete. Overall, Hansen Dam is in fair to average condition for a municipal golf course. After having some very warm days and being late April, I was expecting the course to be a little greener and somewhat better fairway turf conditions. Although the fairways are quite playable, they are not very green, thin in a lot of areas and blotchy looking. The tee boxes were a mixed bag. Some were OK. Some were overgrown, and some were nearly all dirt and unlevel. But, for the most part, it was OK.

I was in 1 greenside bunker. It had adequate firm brown sand. Not difficult to hit from. The greens looked terrible. They were off-colored with a mix of grasses. BUT they rolled very well. They were medium speed. They were pretty firm, and did not hold approach shots too well. For the $19 senior walking rate, I enjoyed the morning round.

Our foursome teed off at 8:20am on Monday, 2/8/2021. For the first two holes it was very foggy, and difficult to see your ball in flight. The sun came out just after the second hole and it turned out to be a very nice sunny day - ideal playing conditions.

The course is in winter mode for sure. The fairways are dormant with a mix of grasses and many blotchy areas where there is thin grass and large clumps. But, even in the areas with thin grass there was ample cushion under your ball to make a good strike. So, even though the fairways look awful, they are quite playable. No complaints here. The rough is hit and miss, nothing very penal. I was in two greenside bunkers. They had adequate firm sand that was easy to hit from. The greens were mostly smooth and running medium speed. They held approach shots well. The teeboxes were in terrible shape, with many bare areas and some very hard ground that you could barely get a tee into. But, with a tee in the ground it was not a big problem. Overall, the course is very playable. I do enjoy the layout here. I believe it's the best of the L.A. City courses in the SFV.

Got out as a single joining a threesome of two men and a woman, teeing off at 1:30. Was actually called up earlier and given the opportunity to get out a few groups ahead, but had most of a bucket in front of me on the range and wanted to finish my warm up. I thought the overall winter conditions were good. Teeing grounds here are generally level and usually had more than adequate, tight coverage. The fairways were visually mottled but with decent coverage and hitting surface. More rollout than summer but not as much as tighter fairways I've seen on some other courses. I was fine with them. The rough in grassy areas was playable and not particularly long. There are areas that range from dirt to brush if you get a little further off the fairway. Chipping areas were more on the tight side with some opportunities to go Texas wedge. I was in a couple of bunkers and they were on the firm side, but with enough softness to the top layer be really playable. It helped that they were clean, fairly resistant to footprints of any impactful depth, and the ball sat up. The greens were pretty good. They rolled well and quickly for here. I liked the speed and while you won't find "potato chip" contours here, most of the greens have some slope and nuance to them to add challenge. Starting at 1:30, I was hoping to play 18 but not counting on it. The pace was a little sluggish and had me thinking the chances were diminishing. But the conga line started picking pace up at the 11th hole and suddenly we couldn't keep up with the group in front. Still, dusk was encroaching by the 14th green and the threesome made apologies about their "senor vision" as things got gloomier, and they took their leave. At that point we had caught up with the groups ahead. As I continued alone and finished 15, the traffic ahead seemed to pick up the pace. I did manage to get through as the last person finishing 18 — playing the final hole in "if I find it where I think I hit it, I'll keep playing" mode. I finished around 6:45 for a pace of 4.25 hours, so the net pace was much better than it felt. I like Hansen as a course and other than the quality of my play, I was quite happy with the course conditions for this time of year, the greens in particular. Good times.

Played on the last day of year 2020 (12/31) with a tee time around 8 am. POP was around 4 hours to play 18. It was very windy today with wind averaging around 15 mph. With the wind, it was very hard to spot your ball on the fairway with a lot of leaves on the grass. On the greens, there were so much leaves on the greens that no matter how hard you tried to clear a path to the pin that more leaves would fall on the greens.

Course conditions were a lot nicer here than when we played Wilson last week. The only issue I ran into was that they were reseeding the yellow tee boxes. So therefore the yellow tees were near the white tees. I just ended up playing the white tees. The tee boxes had very good coverage with bare spots here and there. The fairways had very good grass coverage where you can have a decent lie to hit off of it. The rough wasn't that deep. The only issue we ran into was being a windy day that there were lots of leaves on the fairways, rough and the greens. The bunkers were a little hard packed and thin. The greens were in great shape and were rolling a little fast. Just had to deal with a lot of leaves and pine needles on the greens.

Love playing here. Some holes on the back nine can get challenging like the 10th hole with an elevated green. I like that there is gps in the carts.

Played on Saturday, September 19th with a tee time around 8 am. POP was around 4 hours 10 minutes to play 18. Seemed play was slower on the back 9.

Played on a day with a little bit of smell of smoke from nearby Bobcat fire. Smell got better on the back 9 when there was a little bit of wind. Didn't see a warning that the greens were punched. The punch holes were tiny. Putts seemed to roll a little slow today. With play in the morning, the greens were a little wet too. Got better on the back 9.

Tee boxes were fairly level with good coverage. The fairways were looking just ok. There was good coverage on the fairways. Some parts of the fairway were looking a little thin and brown and some spots were very wet, muddy and soggy. With this being a city course, I recommend that you stay out of the rough as it was very deep and thick. I was only in one bunker today and it was a little on the thin side. It can get hard to get out of the bunkers with no rakes in the bunker. Some local rules during Covid will allow you to drop your ball elsewhere in the bunker if you're in a footprint.

Saw that you can get packaged food and drinks at the turn from the snack bar. Club house is currently closed due to Covid. Putting greens were also closed. Driving range is open with no restrictions for social distancing. You can get riding carts if you have an early tee time before 10 am. I like that there's a display that shows your distance to the green in the carts. Some of the holes can be challenging. It's not a flat course to walk 18. It's very hard to get a tee time for this and other LA city golf courses.

Played Hansen yesterday with a group of degenerate gamblers. We had a 810 tee time.

Range was quiet. Only a few people out. The course wasn't super busy but there were slots filled throughout the day.

The weather was warm, then hot, then windy then you're almost done with the round and then its over.

Tee Boxes. boxes were decent and not too much to note.

Traps, the traps were the usual half raked and half footstep waste area on a lot of the traps. They are also either making the traps smaller or redoing them on holes 12 and 18. They had a Bobcat or one of those bulldozer things (I'm not in landscaping or excavation) out on those traps moving something around. So it was not sand as it was freshly scrapped dirt.

Fairways, cut grass delight in the early am made for grassy cleats and grassy cart wheels Lots of cut grass however, the course was in good condition. Its interesting, for as hot as it gets out there the fairways weren't roached like some of the others in the area.

Rough, just like the other city courses. Don't go in the rough and you won't drop strokes. Its thick and its grabby, like a gypsy in France.

Greens, greens were slowish whatever. It would have been nice if they were faster although the pounding death rays of the sun make that a little tough. Greens rolled ok and there was
some plink factor on a couple of holes, mostly from old pitch marks but the greens were green and not too soggy.

Hansen dam looked great and the course layout is a little nicer to someone that is a draw player. The gimmick ness of holes 10/11 are pretty lame but thats golf. POP wasn't so bad we played in 415. Loosing money is a bummer but playing golf during the week is cool so theres that. All in all a good day on the links.

The traps were raked which is nice for those that are more geological in their play.

Greens, greens were small hole punched and sand. The ball rolled well as you can tell the
greens were rolled. The green speed was a little slower but still better than a lot of other courses. The ball did roll true though. Some top water and soggy spots on the greens but
at least they aren't dried to a crisp.

Still a good round with moderate heat and moderate wind.

First time playing Hansen Dam, Sunday tee time at 4:40pm. A friend and I walked while another older couple rode. Really enjoyed the course and it's conditions. We felt that the bunkers are well-placed just to make you think about your tee shots and approaches.
No complaints about the fairways and rough. The greens also ran well, except for the unrepaired divots.
The front 9 is easily walkable, but 10-12 has a few huge hills that killed my legs. Next time I play that late, I might only play the front 9.
We ended up getting through 14 holes with enough daylight and played 15 and 16 near-dark.
Barely had to wait at all, but the group behind was breathing down our neck a little.

Teed off at Hansen Dam as a foursome on 7/15/20 at 6am. Pace of play was perfect at 3.5 hours. We never waited on a shot on this cool, cloudy morning. Overall, the course is in good shape. The roughest part of the course is the tee boxes. Some are unlevel, thin, and hard to stick a tee in the ground. But this didn't really bother anyone.

Fairways are mostly lush, with nice padding under your ball. There were some areas that were burnt and yellowish, but they didn't come into play very often. The rough is 1-3 inches and fairly consistent and playable. I was in one sand trap. There was plenty of nicely raked, medium sand. Easy to hit from. The greens were running medium speed for the most part. They were generally smooth, soft, and receptive to well struck approach shots. The course is very enjoyable to play right now. Recommended.
