Played on a Friday morning, off at 7:30 as a threesome. The main thing I notice is the greens were bumpy. The practice green was the bumpiest of them all. Looks like they grew back uneven after the last aeration, and regular mowing and rolling is not keeping the surface flat. Maybe it's time to top dress the greens again? I don't know, but unless you rammed your putts, there was a chance of them bouncing off line. Fairways and rough, as expected this time of year, were thin and somewhat dormant kikuyu grass. The sand in the bunkers was decent. Pace was slow for this early in the morning, as we waited on nearly every shot. When we got to two tee, I saw a problem: a group of five older guys looking in the shrubs 120 yards off of four tee and an open par five ahead of them. LOL.

Played 12/26/11. The fairways and tee boxes were a bit suspect. I can never understand why some courses set tees on uneven lies. The greens were close to perfect. Just a notch below Rec Park. Some what fast but true and somewhat free of pitch marks, a rarity at most public courses.

Only one complaint. Marshal's need to be more attentive. Played with a group of guys I know. Teed of at 7:50 Left them at the 15th hole at 1:20 to finish myself. Finished the final holes on my own. On pace for a six hour round. The golf course was empty ahead of us. UNACCEPTABLE.

Morale of the story. Marshal's DO YOUR JOB. Don't just get your free rounds and range balls.

Played back nine today ( 12/3 ) and the greens on 10 & 11 had standing water front left on both greens. The fairways on on all the holes were hard and bare. The wind was blowing hard this morning and the green on 13 was unplayable. Our 4some had putts below , above and to the side of hole for our first putt , all of missed our 1st putts and each our our balls rolled off the front of the green , even , mine which was below the hole. I hit 1st my putt well just lipping out then rolling backwards off the front of the green. PLEASE FIX YOUR BALL MARKS AND 1 OTHER.

played on 9-16 afternoon. I really dont like this course due to slow play, bad conditions, layout of the course, but i usually can find a cheap tee time online. Started on time, but my cart died after the 1st hole. Was replaced on the third hole. Greens were bumpy but playable, but hole 7 was very saturated and overly watered. Bunkers are decent, but tee boxes are still one of the worst. Saw the cart girl numerous times during the round. Surprisingly the round only took 4 hours.

Played early on Friday, 9/2/11 (7:16 a.m.). Pace was okay at about 4.5 hours; for this course, that is decent. You have to be early to get that pace as this is a popular course due to the low rate. The good: fairways and rough are as green and lush as it gets here; bunker sand is plentiful, greens are soft and will hold any decent shot (I guess that's good). The bad: ball marks on the greens. It looks like a great deal of the marks were improperly repaired, making for unsightly and somewhat bumpy greens. They weren't horribly bumpy, but it was distracting to see it, especially knowing that these could be really nice greens. Another thing I noticed is there are several areas where bermudagrass has infiltrated onto the bentgrass greens. The greenskeepers here do not know to avoid placing the holes in those spots because I can see where it has been done. That just spreads the problem faster. Oh, well. All in all, for the money it was nice enough.

Had an opportunity to play with a client and ended up choosing the first venue that had a tee time available to book online last minute. In this case, it was Knollwood Country Club located in Granada Hills. Nice ring to the name, eh? I checked right here on GK to read any reviews, but the last person to post anything was over a month ago.

At this time, it was too late and I headed straight to the venue after booking a $19.99 (including cart) twilight tee time at 4:20PM. Got there in a flash with no traffic. Found parking immediately. My client was waiting for me in the parking lot. So far, so good.

Upon checking in, the first thing I noticed was the pro shop. Again, it was one of those pro shops that had bag of tees, a few dozen golf balls, a few OTR drivers and that was about all. Customer service was just okay. I felt that the employees there could have smiled a little more. After checking in, our cart was brought out front and the starter said we were on after the group that was on the tee box.

After we loaded up and cruised over to the first tee box, we noticed the group waiting to tee off. I was wondering why they were taking so long, so I walked over to the tee box and looked down the fairway. OMG. There was a five-some in the middle of the fairway waiting to hit behind another five-some just getting on to the green. I took a real big breath and gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. The group in front of us was getting ready to tee off, and I was getting excited ... until 3 of the 4 golfers sent their tee shots two-counties to the right into the driving range. What's worse than that? When they all decided to go and look for their balls!

Does this sound familiar? This was the making of a horrible afternoon of golf. More lost balls. More waiting. More errants shots. More slow play. We got to one hole (#7) where two groups were waiting to tee off. I timed how long it would take from the moment we pulled up, to when we teed off - 36 minutes! From the minute we teed off, to putting the flag stick back in - 9 minutes.

The rest of the round was wasn't getting any better. From hoping to get in at least 15-16 holes, turned into hoping to at least get to the turn. Well, long story short by the time we arrived at the 9th hole, it was practically dark. My client and I laughed, teed off, both made pars and called it a day. Really sad, because the back-9 looked really nice also.

Tee boxes were thin and unleveled. Greens were bumpy and slow. Fairways were just average at best. Pace was horrible. I overheard numerous others recommend the 2-tracks over at Balboa/Encino, wherever that may be. Oh wells. Lesson learned.

Course was in very good condition. Tee boxes were fairly level some were just a bit uneven. Fairways were lush, some areas showed dry spots but rolled well, rough was about 3" on average and fairly easy to get out of, the greens started out med fast but got faster as they dried out from morning watering, none or a few ball marks but rolled decent and true. The bunkers I was in were mostly dirt except for 2 out of the 5 I was in. All in all decent conditions. Front desk took good care of us. cart girl came around 4 times during our round. As usual very slow play, finished in 5.5 hours, even tho every group we could see was right behind each other, just that some took longer to get to green, or took too long for putting.

Played on Friday morning, May 27. We got out at about 8:00 a.m. Typically slow pace of play, but not horrible. The trick is to get out early, from about 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. The course is in great shape right now: Tees, fairways, and rough are lush. Greens are smooth and soft, rolling medium to fast. Uphill putts need a little extra effort, but downhill putts could run way past or even off. Watch out for the breaks on these greens; be sure to play enough and get the speed right and you will be rewarded.
