Played on Saturday 4/17..tee time 1:15..usually they send groups off in fivesomes...however there were only 3 of us..so expectations were high...but nonetheless...got off at 1:30..and finished at 7:44!!! The main reason? The golfers two groups ahead of us and the group directly in front of us insisted on playing from the blue tees..which caused them to be in trouble on almost every hole as a result of the difference in distance between the blues and the whites..so most of their time was spent looking for lost balls (which, quite truthfully.. stood a good chance of ending in the fairway had they teed off from the whites..) very frustrating and no marshalls in sight.. no cart girl to "ease" the suffering..The greens were punched on 1/2 side only..which made for more interesting and at times ridiculous pin placements..The most difficult thing of all... explaining to girlfriend who would accept the fact it took nearly 7 hours to play a round of golf! Will be a long time before i go back!!!

Nice day at Knollwood CC. Getting out early here is key if you want less than a five hour round. We followed a fivesome of elderly gentlemen who kept a decent pace until about the 14th hole. Still finished in 4 1/2 hours. Fairways looked quite decent, but up close they were a little dry, thin, and tight with many uneven and bumpy lies. Rough was even tighter with thin and bare areas as you get further from the fairways. Greens, however, were in as nice a condition as I have ever seen here. Somewhat slow, but in great shape. Overall, I would say the course is in as good a shape as it ever gets. The greens can be tricky and quick some days, just not that quick today.

Just played 9 holes Thursday and the greens were in much better condition than they were a few months ago. Some friends and I played it in January and there were huge spots of just sand on the greens which made putting nearly impossible. Its definitely not my first choice to play but since it's the closest to me I end up playing there a lot. The reason why is the pace of play is so slow that you end up having to wait 10 min for every shot. That, and most of the people who play there either don't speak english or hit in to you constantly. No one who plays there understands the concept of waiting till you are out of range before they hit, I was almost hit twice a month or so ago. I don't believe they have any sort of control over the starters box there at all. I would much rather play at Balboa, Encino or Woodley Lakes.

The course plays more difficult than it's 68.1 rating, I would argue it's more in the 71 range but that's just me. The constant elevation changes is what I think is the most difficult about it. I'm by no means a scratch golfer but I enjoy the scenery and the challenge for now. Oh yea, the greens there are VERY fast and unpredictable. Decent course overall, would rate it a 2.5 to 3 out of 5.

course is pretty challenging. lots of elevation changes. greens are ok but sometimes hard to read. pace of play is horrible and some people that play here are plainly rude and no manners. the group behind us was teeing off while our group was still in range. after the marshall didnt do anything, we finally confronted these boozoos. they finally stopped. i guess reading the other reviews, it seems like this is a recurring issue here.

This course was actually in pretty good condition considering the crazy amounts of rain that it experienced in the past week. Greens were decent with the exception of the one or two which had significant bare spots. Some unrepaired ball marks, but not many. Sand traps were hard and crummy, and one was almost completely filled with water. Fairways were quite nice, and the rough was fine. All things considered, I was pleased with the quality of the course.

The main issue, however, was that the course was extremely backed up. Yes, it was a Sunday, however we thought that it wouldn't be too bad since there the NFL Playoffs were on. But it took us almost 4 hours to play the front nine, which we then breezed through in about 1.75 hours on the second go around since we didn't have to wait for anyone. And not only did it take forever, but I had a bad experience with the other golfers there as well. First off, about half of the people didn't speak english. This normally doesn't bother me (why would it?) except that it actually affected the pace of play since there were communication issues between foursomes. Additionally, one person in the group behind us literally yelled at us from the tee box to hurry up despite the fact that the group ahead of us was still putting on the green. While waiting at the next hole, I tried to explain to him that #1: hitting when players are within range is very dangerous, and #2: the course was so backed up that rushing play wouldn't make any difference. However, the guy refused to listen and continued to be a jerk, and even tee'd off while we were within range of his ball waiting for the group ahead. Finally, I lost a single ball which I clearly saw land in the rough, only to find it on the side of a tee box three holes later which I hadn't been to yet. My balls are clearly marked with my initials so that nobody could mistake mine for one of theirs. Picking up another person's ball is really inconsiderate.

In conclusion, the quality of this course is pretty decent. It is a moderately challenging course for a 16 handicap player such as myself. I found the actual playing to be very enjoyable. However, the pace of play and lack of respect and character of some of the other players really took away from the experience. My usual experience with backed up courses is that everyone is unhappy about it but nice to each other since everyone is in the same boat. This was not the case here. Maybe I came on a bad day, but I will probably never play here again unless it is during a non-holiday weekday.

Played on Saturday, 1/9/10 with a morning tee time. Took about 5 hours to play 18, which is pretty good for a Saturday. Fairways are in ok condition for this time of year. It was looking a little thin and there were a lot of bare lies. Sand was a little thin and hard packed in spots. Greens were in decent shape. It was a little bumpy in spots and there were a lot of unrepaired ball marks on the greens.

It was nice the driving range had real grass to hit to but you are still hitting off mats. At least the balls are newer. The last time I was here at the driving range, there were no dimples on the balls. This course is hilly. Knollwood is not an easy course to play.

Pace of play was the best i have ever seen it at Knollwood for a weekend, probably due to the frigid weather. Course was in ok condition at best. Fairways are dormit offering thin and unpredictable lies. Green are in decent condition, 1 or 2 of them are damaged and diseased. Overall typical of LA muni golf.

Greens have fully recovered from aerification. Number 4 green has some damage front and right; probably a fungus attack. Fairways and rough are now dormant and thin, making for a surreal yellow apearance contrasting nicely with the greens. Have fun hitting off of really tight lies in the fairway.

Played Friday, November 13, 2009. Greens still show signs of last month's aerification, but it did not affect roll all that much. The kikuyu grass is beginning to slow down into dormancy, so fairways and rough will soon look more yellow than green. Pace of play was excellent (4 1/2 to 5 hrs.) given we were following a group of 5 walkers. We had a 7:40 a.m. tee time. It helps to be early at this course. The new range is beautiful with the new balls, nice grass, and target greens. Unfortunately, you still hit off mats and the new American Golf ball dispensers are a little more per ball than before. Customer service and price to play is well worth it.
