Played on Friday, 04-03-09. 1/2 of all greens have been aerified this past week. After next week when they aerify the other half, it may take a couple of weeks to get to good. Right now, all you have to do is keep your ball on the half that was not punched and all is good. The punched side was looking pretty bad--lots of sand and big holes. Lucky for us, we mostly kept it on the clean side. Fairways and rough are on the thin side, but playable. Sand was good. Tees were o.k. with sand and seed mixture being used to level the divots. This is a popular course, so things get well-used here.

This course is a great course for what you pay. The greens can be pretty challenging, especially number 14 if the pin is in the front left of the green. The fairways were at times pretty firm and bare but the rough was pretty good. At first, then sand was wet because i teed off early in the morning, but as the day went on, it dried up and was a lot easier and more fun to hit out of. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone that doesn't want to spend much to play, but that is looking for a good challenge.

Played 02/21 Sat. This course does have interesting layout. Hole 1 is handi 1 with OB to the right and uphill green. Careful with your first tee shot, don't want to start with OB. Course has many up/down hills. All the par 3s are reachable. Greens are OK. Bumpy on certain holes. Bunkers are OK. I don't mind playing this course if the pace improve. Took our group almost 3.5 hours to play the front nine. I almost want to quit after the front nine. Back nine improve a bit. Took us ~6hours to play the round. Call the pro-shop, but told us they can't do nothing.

Played 03/06/09 with Moneysworth and a co-worker of mine and his buddy. Got off at a crowded start at 7:40 and, surprisingly, finished in 4 1/2 to 5 hours. The course is in great shape right now. Greens are smooth, medium fast and blemish-free. The fairways are as green as I have ever seen them. All the bunkers were raked, and although the sand looked like crap, they played nice. I should know, I was in several. BTW, they have new carts. The console on these new EZGo carts have drink holders that are able to accomodate the oil-can sized Fosters. And there was Gabby! Yea!

I think I've found the secret to playing Knollwood in a reasonable amount of time - go there after a morning rain. Miguelgolf2007 and I got there yesterday at 10:00 for our 10:36 tee time and there was only ONE car in the lower lot! When we made the turn, there were NO cars in the lower lot. Apparently the people who routinely clog this course are ALL fair weather golfers. We took our time and still walked 18 in only 3 hours 20 minutes - almost felt like we played TOO fast!. Despite the morning rain, the course was very playable. Fairways and greens drained nicely. Only had to break out the umbrella for 2 holes.

The greens are okay, layout so so, pace of play horrible. Two twosomes in front of else. Asked group to join up with the other group, and they said, those guys are horrible. Watch that group hit a 40 yards hook consistently. No marshalls, no cart girl. Barely finish in 5 hours and 20 mins on a weekday.

Played on Friday 11/14 with my usual foursome. Greens have recovered nicely and were rolling good - hence only 28 putts for TBD. We actually played a fairly quick round by Knollwood standards - 5 hours. Wind made you really think about club selection. Also meant cleaning pine needles from your putting line. Bad news - range balls are really beat up - good news is there are usually plenty left by the mats. At $23 - green fees are really reasonable for a challenging course, perhaps that is why this course is always so crowded. I will continue to come back - challenge, location and price all work for me. No gimmicks here, just golf and good times with friends.

A couple of minor changes were made to the course since my last visit. 1. the large bunker with the retaining wall on hole #12 has been completely removed and is staked off as ground under repair. 2. the fairway is now cut all the way to the green on #18 (it was previously possible to drive thru the end of the fairway).

Played on October 17, 2008, with my buddy Moneysworth and a co-worker and his pal. We were off at 7:40 a.m. with a 7:30 tee time. Pace of play was o.k. and we finished in 4 hours and 35 minutes. The aerated half of the greens were coming back nicely, though they probably need another week or so. Of course by then the other half of the greens will have been aerated. Not the best maintained course around, but I appreciate that they are trying: tees and some fairways were overseeded, and due to nice weather, the seed is coming in nicely. there are some wet spots here and there; mostly, they are staked. Stay away from the trees. The recent winds have caused many small branches, pine needles, and eucalyptus bark to litter the fringes. Makes for tough foraging looking for errant shots.
