Played on 11/16/12 @ 11:56 am. Teed off on time and starter sent us out as a twosome since the singles on the waiting list never checked in. Greens were in decent shape. Medium-fast and a little bumpy. Some areas had a unrepaired ball marks. Greens on holes 4 and 6 were in terrible shape with bare areas and discoloration. All greens were pretty firm but held shots ok. Fairways and rough were in good shape. Very lush for this time of year. Fairways gave a nice soft cushion to hit off of with some firmer areas the closer you got to the green. Rough was lush and penalizing around some greens and just sort of there on other holes. A few bare areas. Fairway and rough on #7 was in pretty rough shape with areas roped off. Tees were in pretty good shape. Good coverage and pretty level. Some areas had pretty significant divot damage that had not been filled in. POP was terrible. Our twosome was able to play through some people, but others seemed ignorant and annoyed when we asked to play though. The biggest problem is not the 5-somes but people playing from the wrong set of tees. Guys were hitting 2 balls a hole from the back tees. When will people figure out that it doesn't make you any less of a man or a golfer to play from the proper set of tees. Why make golf harder? Customer service was hit or miss. Employees in the grill and bar were great as always. The young, tall african american starter was really nice. He let us know when we would be able to check in and promptly dealt with the ball machine problem on the range. The guy who actually checked us in, Evan, was very rude. He expected us to just know where we were in line to tee off and seemed irritated at us that the singles never showed up to check in. Then when I went to go double check and see if people would be joining us, he looked at his watch and said, "Why are you still here, just go!" Sorry for inconveniencing you by playing your golf course! Cart girl was around often and very nice, always checking with us before she drove off. $48 to ride on the weekend. There are usually deals to be had through American Golf or the various golf tee time websites.

Played mid-November with the usual group. Course was in pretty decent condition. Grass was pretty green throughout the course. A few bare spots, but that is to be expected on a muni. Greens were very inconsistent; some were very fast, some were very slow. All were in good condition, but it was difficult to get a good rhythm going when similar greens behave drastically different. Tee boxes were good, some bare spots, but all level. Also frustrating, from about 75 yards in on almost every hole, the fairways were extremely tight lies. They were lush, there was definitely grass there, but it was very hard to hit down and through the ball, the dirt was so hard packed beneath the sod.

Pace of play wasn't horrendous for a Sunday morning, but it wasn't very good either. We were a fivesome and stayed right on top of the foursome in front of us and ahead of the foursome behind us. We waited on almost every hole and almost every shot. Finished in about 5 hours, which is not ideal, but I have certainly played slower rounds here.

Customer service was pretty blah. Not great, not terrible. Some people were having issues with the starter. I didn't really have any problems, except for them being behind. Cart girl was around 3 or 4 times on the front nine, but not once on the back nine. Waitress and Cashier in the bar/grill were great and very quick with our orders.

Driving range is is pretty limited. Putting green is too small.

I'll be coming back!

Played about Oct 17th. Pro shop generously loans glo-lite balls that are picked up by marshal 3 holes later. Great idea, BUT, balls light brightly when hit, THEN, typically often shut off before you can reach ball in the dark. We searched for balls with our cell phone flashlight apps. We had all played course many times over past 25 years and thought course was in worst condition we had seen it. Biggest issues players can easily fix is divots in fairways and ball marks on greens. Unfortunately, Marshalls need to be MORE aggressive in reminding players to repair divots and ball marks as a courtesy to players behind them.

This course is in a rather poor condition overall. I have not golfed here in at least a year and conditions then weren't stellar; now I would say it has deteriorated somewhat. Many tees were not level with a lot of divots and sanded areas. Tees, fairways and rough were a mixture of lush, thin, bare, dry, and wet. It seems the course is watering like crazy to counter the summer heat, but many sprinklers are not hitting where they should and some are just oozing water and saturating the ground around them. Greens were soft and slow, a little bumpy at times due to unrepaired or poorly repaired ball marks. Many greens were just pock-marked in some areas. We did get out at around 7:40, a few minutes ahead of our tee time, but soon were waiting on the fivesome ahead of us. We got behind them at the fifthe hole and stayed on them for the duration of our 4.5 hour round. $29 to walk on a Friday.

This place is typical L.A. County muni conditions. Playable. Fairways & bunkers are ok. The greens were inconsistent in relation to speed. Dozens of un-repaired pitch marks greet you on every green. Quite bumpy. The pro shop has an odd way of handling their check-in process. You check in (20 mins. prior), they tell you they'll check you in later. Ok. The pace of play is well documented & notoriously slow. $34 for late Sunday afternoon with cart is fair.

Slow, slow, slow. Our foursome had allowed 5 1/2 hours for 18 holes. When we arrived at 10:30 for our 11:15 tee time we were told to hit the range or practice green and they would call. They paged us to the clubhouse and we payed our fees just before our posted time but there were four groups waiting to tee off before us. There was no starter and it was unclear as to whether these groups had times before us or had just jumped in line. Once we started (at 11:35) we were waiting at least 5 minutes between each shot. We finally saw a marshall on the tee box for #6, where we were third in line to tee off. We were two hours into our round at this point. He laughed off our complaints as, "yeah some days are just like this here. You've got a couple of slow groups on the back 9." On the back 9! Why didn't he do something? Why are people allowed to grind play to a halt with no consequence? Slow play is one thing but a 3hr 10min front 9 on a shortish course is completely unacceptable. We stopped after 9 and were told that no refunds were allowed as apparently there is no 9 hole rate at this course. It was hinted at that we could have a replay. Why would I want that? I'll never go back and unless you have 6+ hours to kill on a round at a mediocre course I suggest you don't either.

Do not play here on Monday the 26th after the Women's Pub Links tournament. You will be faced with a 5 and a half hour round like I suffered through today. However, the weather was gorgeous and the course in good shape. Only the rough is a bit thin and bad lies are the norm. The greens are nice and fairways decent. For years this has been a fun track to play.

Played Friday (3/9/12). Walked up as a 2 ball and got right out. Greens very good, fairways good and the only sand trap I was in was Ok (a little thin). Pace was very good for Knollwood at about 4 hrs. and a good walk.
