Seeking relief from the heat, decided to play Los Verdes. I was pleasantly surprised that it was not too difficult to get off early as a single, but also is just how nice the course is, condition wise. The greens and fairways were better than expected, the rough however is another story. Very strange. It was either bare or nonexistent or heavy - not much in between.

Using the senior discount card, what a bargin. To play this quality of course on the ocean for $16. Wow! Wish this course were closer to home.

I played twice this last week Wed August 10th and Saturday August 13th. I have been wanting to play this course for a few years now after seeing many photos online. I have been playing golf for over 30 years and let me say that this is the best value I have ever played. The views are amazing, the greens were consistent and very good. For the money charged the course could not be in any better shape. It is expensive to maintain a golf course, and the only way this could be better is fairways, and there is just no way to make it better charging the same as every other course that offers less. The traps had good sand, the greens held great, were consistent speeds and no ball marks. Probably because most of the golfers I saw there aside from the ones in my group did not hit the ball very well or high for that matter. Pace of play was 4.5 hours both days, so all the propoganda by the locals to keep play away is BS. There tends to be a little bit of a dominant group of people here which you will have to see for yourself, and yes they tend to play slow, but we did not experience any issues beyond what is expected for the time of day and the golf course. The lay out was fantastic by the way, it looks like the reknown William Bell took his time designing ( 1964) this one and I am glad he did because the property is an absolute gem. In fact it is a golf designer dream canvas. Go play it ! If you know how to get a tee time.

Played early on Saturday (first two shots were in the dark) and Sunday. Pace of play - 4 hours and 4.5 hours. Nice ocean breeze this morning for us walkers.

The course is heavily reviewed so this will not be long. Fairways and greens are in good to excellent shape. The sand was hit and miss today. The one bunker I was in on 18 was nice but there were complaints on the front nine from others about there being little sand in a green side sand trap. That is not usually a problem here so it may be an anomaly.

The rough is weird. It is completely gone, leaving bare dirt, in some areas off the fairway and immediate areas around it. The rough was shaved down in some areas where they had been growing it, such as in the landing area on 1, to the left of the landing area on 9, and on the edges of 6. It is really thick in other areas, on the right on #2, left on 5, near the green on 10, behind the cross-bunker on 11, and on the right of the landing area on 18. It looks in some places that they have extended the apron and given it a graduated rough, such as left on 5. You could go from having virtually no rough on 14-17 to finding two balls looking for a lost ball (which we never found) on 18. I like the extra challenge the thicker rough gives, it just pops up when you do not expect it.

Played today. POP was a slow 4 hr 30 due to the group in front of us (who had never played LV before) needing to play from the SCGA markers and not tee markers. And gentlemen if any of you read this, pick another game or another course, please. Even after the marshal spoke to you 2/3 times, you merely waited until he was gone, to go back to your annoying routine. Course is in very very nice shape. Lots of green fairways with good lies. Tee boxes good; bunkers good; very little rough but what there is, is penal; greens in great chipping/putting shape. Customer service excellent at all levels. Seems to be more vacation golfers now that we have hit Aug vs regulars? Play early if you can.

Course is in great shape (IMO) right now at every level. Hope the heat this week does not do much damage? Tee boxes good, fairways (good lies all round) fine, bunkers fine, greens (best I have seen them all year) and what rough there is, is way outside of the fairways (keep it there please). Customer service excellent at all levels. Now that July is ending and Aug is here, I notice the course is much busier (plan for an early tee time if you can).

Back out today in a nice 4 hour pace. I first want to thank the marshal (Joe) for making sure we, along with others, played in 4 hours. His timely attention to pace, kept things moving along. With that said, not much to report from last week, other than the greens are clean, mowed and chipping/putting very well (no issues). The overall condition of the course is really good. Excellent customer service at all levels.

Played today in a nice POP of 3.5 hours. Was surprised to see that they were sanding the greens (it did effect putting). They were cleaning them later by the time we got on the back 9, so perhaps in a few days, things will be better? Tee boxes fine; fairways good but you can still get some thin lies; bunkers all raked and clean. Customer service excellent at all levels. I really like the cutting around the greens and run up areas in front of the holes that they have been doing (makes for better scoring).

Played this mid-morning in the South Bay Pub Links tourney. Red White Blue format so I got to see some tee boxes I don't usually see and some new angles on old holes. The red tees were really nice, flat with few divots. Blue tees not so much, like 11 which was definitely crowned.

The course itself was decent. It is drying out some although still leagues better than the depth of the drought. I had good lies in the fairway but there were some drier areas nearby that would not have provided as good a hitting surface. There is still some grass in the outside areas that did not have grass last year, like left on #2, but it is dwindling with the heat.

The greens were not as fast as two weeks ago. Significantly faster than Rancho Park which I played Saturday, but more the fast side of medium. You had to respect the downhill but not the breath on and hope it holds the line respect.

The cart lady was both great looking and diligent. The coffee shop was rocking but each time I went in there I got quick and pleasant service. The only downer was the 5.5 hour POP. But, it was cool and you could see the second island to the right of Catalina. Nice place to spend a slow day of golf.

Men's club tourney this morning. Hot for the coast, I felt for those playing inland. The course was in decent shape today. More water than usual out there presumably because of the heat wave. The greens were really nice. Fast. Accentuated the break and kicked my behind. I enjoyed the challenge though. The greens made a bad round fun.
